Why your IELTS results are withheld
When you apply for your IELTS test and fill in the application form, you will find the terms and conditions attached to the form. You should read these terms and conditions very carefully because you will find three points which explain that your results may be withheld or cancelled.
IELTS Terms and Conditions: Withholding Results
The following points can be found on your IELTS application form under the terms and conditions:
- Your result may not be issued 13 days after the test if the IELTS Test Partners decide that it is necessary to review any matter associated with your test or the administration of your test. To assist any investigation, you may be required to provide writing and speaking samples. In exceptional circumstances you may be required to re-take one or more IELTS components.
The above point explains that you may not get your results after 13 days because IELTS want to check them more carefully. There are two main reasons given: 1) they want to check your test again 2) they are doing quality control checks on how the test is managed.
- Your result may be cancelled after it has been issued if any irregularity is identified. You may be required to re-take one or more IELTS components.
This means that if there are any problems with your test, your results might be cancelled and you might need to take your test again or part of your test again. An “irregularity” means that something occurred relating to your test or how it was managed which was not usual or acceptable.
- If any of the data on the Test Report Form provided by you or your agent to Recognising Organisations has been altered in any way, your original test result may be cancelled.
This point shows that if any information you give has been altered, your result might be cancelled. So, be careful about providing the right information and only use reputable agents.
You now see that IELTS have the right to withhold or cancel your results for certain reasons, usually for analysing and quality checking.
When you sign your application form, you also agree that you accept a possible delay in results. Your signature is agreeing to the terms and conditions above.
IELTS will email you if your results are withheld or cancelled. If you don’t get this email, check your spam folder or contact your test center.
What can you do about it?
If your results have been delayed, you just need to wait and be patient.
Your results will arrive but there is no fixed time limit. Some students receive their results within just one week or a couple of weeks. However, for others, it might be longer – a month or even 3 months.
Can you take your test again? Sure you can. See below for advice:
Taking your Test Again
If you don’t want to wait, you can take your test again.
When you take more than one test, you can choose which results to use. You can choose to use the highest results. So, it won’t matter that you end up with two sets of results – just choose the best one to use for your future.
Booking your Test in Advance
When you decide the date for your IELTS test make sure you have a few months before your actual deadline because your results might not arrive after 13 days.
Give yourself lots of time to prepare for IELTS and to get your results!!

Hello all, I gave my test on Jan 20th in Hyderabad for IELTS General Training. My results were supposed to have come out on Feb 2nd, which were delayed until Feb 9th. And again today I received a mail stating the Investigation is still on and I will need to wait until Feb 19th. This wait is so frustrating. They are not even confirming whether the results will be definitely out by Feb 19th. I am guessing it could delayed even further. The British left but I feel we are still at the mercy of BC 🙂
It’s really quite disconcerting that most results are being withheld. Wrote the exam on 6th January 2018 in Dubai and still awaiting results. Is there anyone else there waiting who wrote from Dubai on the 6th of Jan?
My test was also conducted on 6th January, 2018 from Islamabad. Haven’t received TRF yet.
I took my test on 6th jan in Islamabad, Pakistan. Results were due on 19 jan but got this particular email. BC is using delaying tactics like “Investigation” and “quality check” blah blah. I am in contact with BC since then. Recently they provided me with a date of 8 feb with additional but meaningless apologising. Well, tomorrow is 8 feb, i hope we get results instead of further information ( which happens to be the same in every mail i.e to wait…)

I suggest we get togater at embassy lodge where the test is conducted and show out concerns infront of ielts staff because they have no concreate reason for this delay.
Exactly but Embassy Lodges was just a location for the test and it is considered as a test centre. Where we actually need to go is British Council in Islamabad. I’ll call the concerning authorities tomorrow and confirm the location where we have to go for our complaints. I’ll be in contact with you.

I gave a call to British Council as I was loosing my patience and had not received any updates from them via email or sms. To my utter surprise they informed me that my results have been released!! They did not intimate this to me either by email or sms!! So annoyed at the fact that I have probably been waiting patiently when my results have already been released. And my results don’t show up online either. I have to go British Council and pick up my report. Will do that today or tomorrow. So my advise is for everyone waiting to call up British Council and check with them whether your results are released.

My email states- Results are routinely analysed before they are issues. These procedures have flagged results from the test taken on 20 Jan 18 for further analysis and therefore your result will not be released on 2 Feb.

I sat to IELTS UKVI in Qatar 20th January 2018 I did not receive SMS, I couldn’t see my results online and on Saturday February the 3rd I went to BC and they said my result is withheld and I have to contact the examination section over the phone on Sunday, I did and they said we will send an email to explain why your result is withheld, 2 hours late I received the email (due to strict quality control procedures and we shall let you know if the investigation is complete ) that’s the case and I am waiting.

Yeah, I gave mine 20th Jan 2018 too, in Bangalore, the test centre near Yeshwanthpur (some convention center). There was a power cut in between the test, was wondering if that had anything to do with it – but looks like a lot of people in a lot of different places had this issue.

I got my result by text message in Qatar and really it was a bad score.Afternoon again recieve a mail from BC that mentioning your result is with held for checking.I make a call to BC they inform me yes it was on hold.They dont know why send a text message.We need to wait until next mail.I seriously doubt these Ielts centers are doing some malpractice.And i dont know where to say all those issues.
Let us put some faith on process…may be it is held to prevent any illegal intervention… people get their score and frequent checks are inevitable for standardization

Nothing more disappointing than receiving this sort of an email, instead of band scores on the results release date. I had to retake the test on 20th January as my previous band score for writing was just 0.5 below the required score. Just THAT! After retaking all the bands and waiting 13 days you receive a message saying that your results are withheld??? What if they take months to release my results? How am I going to meet the deadline? After all, what is the point of taking this 20th January test, if I have to wait for an unestimated time period for results? It is purely a waste of money. It is true that I had agreed with their terms and conditions with this regard. We all did. That’s solely because we had no option. Unless it is due to exam malpractices, in other cases such as quality checks, these authorities should consider refunding those candidates who had to go through this hassle, just to maintain the so called IELTS standards.

Very well said Ayesha. I took test on 6th jan Pakistan through British Council but it turned out to be the biggest mistak. My result was due on 19 jan but instead i got this “particular” email. I am in contact with British Council since then and they are using delaying tactics like “Investigation” and “Quality Check” and blah blah. Even today i contacted the relative office and they gave me further date of 8 feb with additional but meaningless apologising. I was about to get rude but i controlled myself and decided to give them last chance. I am thinking of legal action otherwise. I will surely not recommend anyone to give IELTS through British Council and i hope you guys will do the same. Instead give IELTS through AEO, which is efficient and trustworthy. AEO is operating in Pakistan, i don’t know about other countries. I should’ve chose AEO but i made a terrible mistake.
I took my test on Jan 20th in Sri Lanka too. I got an email 2 hours before the results were due stating, “Notification of investigation… strict quality control.. blah blah blah…test scores for the 20 January have come under scrutiny and are being investigated”. The email had no contact number and no date when to expect the results. All it says is that we will provide an update as soon as the investigation is complete. When is that?? This is absurd!! You go through all this preparation to take the exam and then wait the specified 13 days to get the results.. all for what?? I called British Council and all they could say is that it’s out of their hands and only Cambridge in the UK knows. As for the timeline, it can take 1 week, 2 weeks or even a month to get an update. To quote them, “We don’t know”. So why do you handle the IELTS exam? British Council needs to take some responsibility for this matter! However, they were keen on telling me that I can retake the exam if I don’t want to wait that long. Seriously????? So basically you just want the money. They must think we pluck money off trees. These people are so unprofessional!! We need these results to go on with our education and employment. Just give us the results so that we can get on with our lives and retake it if needed in a timely manner. Why are you playing around with our livelihoods? I can’t wait months for these results. Something needs to be done about this. Test centers and the UK is abusing the fact that the IELTS is becoming the only universal English exam now and using it to make more money. I’m so frustrated!
My main concern with IELTS is that they do not give dates for when the results are likely to be released – I think this is the main problem that needs to be addressed. If students know the time frame, they can make an appropriate choice of what to do. IELTS really need to make their their time frame clear to students when relating to investigating and withholding results.
And what if we experience same in our next exam??

Same here, for last two times I scored well in any of the 3 modules but they managed to give 0.5 band less than required in one of the module and this time for 20th jan test they have withheld the result. Extremely annoying. Test centre was Navi Mumbai.
I also gave exam in Navi Mumbai on 20th jan, received mail today that results are further analysed, so there will be delay and next update about the results will be on 16 th feb.

I sent a message to the official Facebook page of the British Council Saudi Arabia about the 6 January 2018 IELTS tests and they replied that I will get more information on or before 31 July 2018. 6 months waiting!

Liz, do think chances are much lower in this case?
It’s a very good question and one I can’t answer. Sorry. You could ask IELTS directly how the investigation is done when they withhold marks and if a remark is still an option. Hopefully they can enlighten you. If they do, please post the response here for other students to read.
I’ve contacted the test center and they said that it is totally fine and that remark is still an option as long as it has not been 6 weeks since the exam date.
Luckily, tomorrow is the last day when I can apply for a remark! I ll go for it and will keep you updated with the outcome.

Just got confirmation that I scored overall 7.5 band like everyone says in writing they just gave 6.5 else I would have scored 8 bands but I’m happy with my scores. I would like to understand that what could have gone wrong with my result as I was expecting a higher band ( 8+ ) in L and R and at least 7 or 7+ in W.
I was under impression that the results were delayed only for those candidates who have scored higher band score and in fact I was confident after the test but after this result I am shocked to see that I have score 8 only in speaking.
I have given IELTS earlier in Oct as well and scored 7.5+ in each L,R,W&S but I am unable to digest the results, Can I get the re checking done?

The results are now withheld for students who have a higher band score. The results are usually withheld randomly for quality checking purposes. So, do NOT think you have a high score because your results are withheld. Both reading and writing are the academic tests and are more difficult. It is not unusual for students to score a lot lower in those parts of the test. You will need to review your techniques and understanding of the strategies. With reading, I have rarely seen a change from remarking. This is because the answers are either wrong or right – there is no human interpretation involved. Of course, mistakes are possible so I won’t ever say it isn’t possible – but it’s highly unlikely the score will change. For writing, it is possible for scores to vary widely depending on the essay type and other factors. However, you must decide for yourself if you want to try for a remark. If it will help your peace of mind, then do it. But just don’t hold out big hopes – good luck 🙂

I took the IELTS exam on IDP Riyadh. I’d seen my score online (reading was 5.5, I need to have a score not below 6.0 in order to be q). Then I called IDP office and advise me that the official test result paper will be released next week (It should had released by now, as the normal time frame is 13-15 days), additionally said that the preview online result was not final.
Is there any possibility that my score could change, compared to the delayed release of official test result paper?

I took my tests on 6 January 2018 and I received email notification of investigation from the British Council on 19 January. Most of us here have the same problems. I believe there are technical errors with the assessment process, maybe I am wrong. But I hope I will get the results before February.

yes it has happened to me twice too. First 11 Nov and now for 6th Jan. my result is still withheld for November’s test. It is 2 and half months and yet no result. it is so frustrating studying hard and getting no result.
My first result was withheld permanently without elaborating the reason. I still wonder why and what happened to me. They said they have the right to do so they can do under any doubt. It’s simply nonsense. Either I should be told what I have done wrong or asked not appear in IELTS again. I feel like suing them but judicial system of my country is already ridiculous and crazy.

I too received the same e-mail. I am planning to send a legal notice to them as they haven’t informed me of any clear reason for withholding the result after asking them over email and phone. I do understand they have terms and conditions but they need to communicate explicitly what the issue is before impacting someone’s immigration process.

British Council is one of the reputed Institute which is known for its Standards.
Unfortunately ,My Results are withheld for the Test Date:06th January 2016.Now only answer i receive it may be Months or Weeks to get the results with Organization behaving like they have no clues.Candidates Appear for the Test after lot of Hardwork and hard earned money to be prove their language
I do not think appearing for Test again is the Solution Just because Evaluation is not successful by their side
If this is the case and Organization is concerned about test authenticity ,They should start investigating from the very first day after Test Completion when they receive Answer
sheets.
In the World of Computers and Technology Organization .If they need months and weeks to asses the quality ,Its a matter for them to be advanced.

It’s strange because I have heard only British Council has withheld results as few of my friends who appeared via IDP already got their results. I just got email confirmation from British Council that results are delayed & next update would be on or before 27th Jan 2018. It’s really shame we all work so hard to get results on time & finally get email updates about delay & only get to know that we are not the only one suffering but this has been happening by British Council since such a long time.
Rightly pointed by Harshil above they need to enhance their assessment skills to avoid such disappointments for other students in future

Yes me too! I sat for the IELTS on 16-12-2017 at University of Wollongong Dubai and I have received two emails so far about a further delay in the release of the results. They say that it is a normal quality check procedure , but I think they need the time to celebrate NEW YEAR with their families :). I have deep faith in IDP and I’m in no hurry. I wish all candidates best of Luck with their RESULTS.

IELTs team is playing with the future of the people, they can complete the investigation in one week but they like to give tension and pain to the candidates. I took my test on the 16th of December in Dubai. It is very important to note that the test results were expected to come out on the 29th but it didn’t, it went through the investigation. My mind’s telling me they have just been off for Christmas break and didn’t get enough time to get the results out on time. I experienced the same thing before… so their excuse is quality control.
Time is money and they don’t wish to speak up, give it a week or so and everything will be released.

In the Email that I received from IDP Dubai it said that they will provide me with an update of my test result on Jan 5. I just realized it falls on friday. Friday is the weekly holiday in the UAE. 😒

Initially I didn’t receive an email about the delay not until I called them up to ask why I can’t see my result online. The cust care rep. asked for my candidate number and email addy. Boom! As soon as I hang up, I got the mail. So I guess update will only happen if I call them again. Unfortunately offices are closed today.

I received my ielts results thru SMS. I figured out my listening and reading performance were 8 and speaking was less than 7 on the previous test that I took I think that was 5 months ago. Now the listening and reading were 6.5 but I got 7 on speaking. I only need 6.5 Bandscore and 7 on speaking. I’m so happy I got the desired score that I need for my visa screening. God is good. I just got an SMS of my ielts test results. Thank God I got the desired scores I need for my visa screening. Based on my observation the reason why my results were withheld Bec of the difference of my old and new test results. I took the test 5 months ago and got 8 on listening and reading. Speaking was below 7. Now I was able to get the 7 speaking. Unfortunately my L and R were not as good as my previous performance. They were 6.5.

It is mentioned that you can go get another test . It is not that simple. That means a huge amount of payment , it is not cheap and also it is very stressful.

This means that your result is withheld. Try to speak the customer care department of your Center or revert on the email from where you have received your test date and Center details. Usually if the tests results gets withheld it can take up to 3 months to get the results. Wait for max ten days else appear for next exam if you are in a hurry

I took my test at IDP India on 25th Nov and the results were declared on 8th December. The same day I got a call from the IDP asking me to share the pic again as the one they took was not clear . I have resent the same and since then I am trying to gauge the status of my TRF. Have spoken to customer care too. They dont have definite answer to when will I receive the TRF . Pls let me know if there is something to worry about …. and when can i expect the TRF to be couriered in such case.

My results were already in as indicated on the email they sent me. However, I cannot see the preview of my scores online. I tried to phone them but unfortunately they weren’t able to give me a proper answer. They keep saying they will forward my issue to the exam department and I have to wait for another two working days. I even haven’t received the hard copy of my test report form yet as their new policy is to ship it to our address and we cannot personally come to the center to get it. First of all, I thank Liz for all the guidance provided through the website. It has helped me a lot and I got good score (more than minimum required marks). Particularly, the speaking test tips were good and I practiced with that tips only (that too on the day before speaking test).
I have taken IELTS on 09-Sep-17 in Hyderabad, India and I supposed to get my result on 22-Sep-17. But to my shock, my result was withheld. I was really worried because I was running short of time and I was given a deadline for joining the university. The worst part is that we don’t even know when the result will come. The customer care (toll free) guys are hopeless. The test center guys can’t help in that. Finally I decided to wait for one more week (till 29th) and if I don’t receive by that time, I will register for PTE which gives result very fast (1-5 days). I even started preparing for PTE. To my surprise, I got the results on 28-Sep-17 (Thursday) and I could only able to see it in http://www.results.ieltsessentials.com (result was NOT showing in http://www.ieltsidpindia.com under candidate login portal). I have got overall 7.5 (university requirement is min. 6.5) , L8.5, R8.0, W6.5 & S7.0. Finally I received my TRF also on today (30-Sep-17). I once again thank Liz ma’am for the good guidance provided.

I went through your comments. Am the latest to hit tat list. I am Arunkumar. I appeared for the ielts exam at Chennai on Nov 11,2017. My original test result date is Nov, 24. I got an email stating my result is being withheld. I can understand all these terms n conditions put forth by British Council but yet I jus wonder Whether any rubbish things will happen even in IELTS examinations. I appeared for this exam third this year and I have never ever experienced such a professionalism in any of the tests that I have attended before in my life time so far. The Gud thing though is tat I have exceptionally well in my LRW test tis time, may be tis one is also the reason why my result is being withheld. Hard times🤔

I took the ielts exam at Chennai on 11th November, 2017 as well. But unlike you I had taken it up with IDP. I was so frustrated that I didn’t receive my results on 24th November, 2017. I was so confused of what to do. And, one more thing, I didn’t get any intimation from IDP stating that my results are withheld. I called IDP India on the 24th using the toll free number and they didn’t even care to respond to my query properly. They just simply put the blame on IDP Australia. I asked them to send me a mail atleast stating the delay of my results. The worst part is, they didn’t even bother to take that seriously and they didn’t send me any mail until I forced them to do so. After multiple follow ups with them, they finally sent the mail about my results being withheld and that if I would like to, I can send them a handwritten statement to prove my performance (This is so strange!) I require the results urgently and this is not fair on their part. This is the second time I’m taking up the exam because I wasn’t satisfied with my results or rather they were insufficient for my immigration goals. It was very evident with the previous scores that I wasn’t awarded the right scores and I didn’t apply for re-evaluation only because that would take time. Instead, I took up the exam again and this is what I get for that.
I am really devastated and don’t know what to do. I’ve read so many posts regarding the same and all of them collectively imply that there would be a delay of nearly 3 months which is something I can’t afford to take at this point.
It’s already hard on me that I haven’t received my results and to top all of this, IDP call center are very harsh and heartless to my concerns. They are least concerned about the candidates’ lives and they are just making me feel miserable each day.
I would really appreciate it, if someone here could notify me incase the results withheld (11th November Candidates) are out. Since, IDP refuses to keep me informed about anything for that matter.
And Liz, please can you do something about these delays. Would you be able to contact the head office directly and voice out our concerns. It’s really painful being in this situation and I am truly desperate of my results.
Being in this pathetic situation is something I don’t want any candidate to face. It’s highly wrong on their part and something seriously has to be done about it.

Hello, i sat for the IELTS exam on 12th Aug 2017 at Mumbai, India. I was supposed to get the score this afternoon but the website displayed ‘no results found’ whenever i entered my details. I called up the British Council helpdesk and they said that my result has been withheld for quality purposes and they can share my score with me on 1st September after 4pm. I also got an email about half an hour after the phone call which says:
“Dear Candidate,
We refer to your IELTS test.
As part of the quality control procedures designed to protect the integrity and security of the IELTS test, test results are routinely analyzed before they are issued to candidates.
Unfortunately it was not possible to include all the results from this Centre in the analysis for this test session. These results will be analyzed shortly.
Please note that it is specified in the declaration signed by candidates on the application form that there may be occasions when it is necessary to issue a result more than 13 days after the test.
Please accept our apologies for this delay.

Liz what’s I have read there are students waiting anything up to 10 months..10 months.. I mean a waiting period okay but some idea could be helpful to these people. After reading the above it seems that there is descrepancies with the examaners quality in delivery of the exam from cambridge I have also read results have been given then days later denounced. Seems to be an awful lot of people having their results withheld for far over the period stated. Infact a lot of people having results withheld unconditionally so infact losing the money they have paid without much assistance or guidence interfering with their educational plans as they are basically asked to wait in limbo. Perhaps this department of education needs a look into on how they run this side of the process. It seems very unfair that so many people are suffering and just told to wait for an absolute random amout of time after having paid for a service a service they need as it is Cambridge they need the certificates from. What happens with the money taken from students that will in the end not recieve their grade at all. Well I am very surprised to say the least.

I’ve got my 13th may withheld results a few days back and I’m more than happy!! L 8.5, R 9, S & W 7.5. I don’t know why someone’s results get withheld & somenone’s don’t. But as far as I’m concerned, this was the second time I faced this turbulence but both the times I got good scores Masha Allah. 1st time it was only around 10days but second time it was more than a month
I was waiting fro my result for a long time period. Finally, I received an e-mail. It says The result will not be released and a Test Report Form will not be issued. I’m really frustrated hear this outcome notification. I gave my exam on 13 May 2017 in front of 3 invigilators. They have suspected me as I’ve done some kind of malpractice. This is really unfair and not a professional decision. So, please give me the advice for this matter. I’m really helpless this time as no one give me a better solution. Moreover, my exam center says if you get difference band score between two tests it would be happened. So, How I get to know about my result to practice my poor side of English. I understand you perfectly! I have my result from 13th of May held until 2 weeks ago. It finally came out but I did not get the straight 7 that I was expecting. I had grades high as 8.5 and a overall 7.5, so I decided to forget IELTS after this and move on to PTE Academic. It is a new challenge, but at least I was corrected by a software and the result came out in 24 hours. Good luck next time!

The waiting is frustrating and weonly want to know what kind of investigation they do and by whom it’s being done.

Hey! I got mine on 15th itself. Had got an sms at 4pm that my results will be available online at 5pm and the TRF should reach me within 15days.. I checked at 5pm online and voila they were there. Got an overall band of 7.5. Was expecting a score of 8 but nevertheless, i am happy. Than you for the tips, specially in reading liz, they really helped me a lot!

i really don’t understand how easily these people are writing such sentences without realizing the amount of time we have invested…a week or two for delay is acceptable, next week it will be one month…we can’t even proceed with our applications further without this result, and after that too,god forbids this happens,but in case you don’t score as per the requirement of your application or the minimum threshold set by the respective migration authorities, then again a month gone or may be more..

This is frustrated really, I need my results before 14th of June for pre-sessional course and they just sent me this email. It’s really crazy!
They are playing with our future right now. I honestly consider taking the exam again next week because I cannot wait until next week and even sure that I will receive my score.

Its really frustrating because some of the people who took the exam at the same day with me they got their results. I don’t want to waste more money as I’ve already paid about 3000 QR just for the Ielts exams and this is my 3rd attempt. You don’t take the IELTS test for fun, not mentioning the money paid in advance for it! Received an email, saying same as previous email of update by 5th June… new email stating update by 15th June. Not saying that results will be 15th June just update by 15th June. No explanation as to why it is taking so long… can’t speak to anyone, a bit like trying to see the wizard of Oz.

Got an email today !
As per the latest information received by Cambridge English the process for the validation of results started today and will completed by the close of business hours today according to the UK timeline. We hope to release these results as soon as we receive the confirmation from the University of Cambridge.
This means that all the local test centres have results ready. Once they are validated by Cambridge , they ll post it. It’s done globally . For colombo , hopefully it will be tomorrow morning as per UK time .

Yes I also got my result today through SMS from British council Doha .The result is really disappointing which is way below my expectation 🙁 .I feel they have decreased my score in Listening and Reading sections in order to match with other two sections because I am sure I did very well in above two sections . My scores are L:6.5,R:6,W:6,S: 7

I called British Council office in Khobar, Saudi Arabia and they told that we are not aware of the exact date of result announcement. The day we get information, we will convey to the candidates. So I believe, patience is the only option all we have now.

Actually, its a funny email, instead of telling me the exact date of publishing my results, they will be sending another email on Monday to provide me with further information.

Today, again I received another email that the IDP can’t give the definite date for the release of results and I will get an update on Jun 8. Anyone else with the same experience?

I did my test of the 13th of May in UAE, Abu Dhabi, with IDP and I did not even receive that email saying my results are withheld. Instead, when I called the IDP IELTS, they told me that my results are being validating and you shall be notified with something (They won’t say what it is), by next week (after 2nd of June).
Please comment if the same happened with you, and what do you think this means?
I have also received the dreaded email from the IELTS investigation team for the test taken on 13th MAY in the UK. I spent bit of time looking through the comments and it appears that lots of people get these emails on regular basis. I have few questions for all the people and Liz.
1) Has anyone checked with their test centre to find out if all the students results are withheld from 13th May?.. I tried ringing but college is closed for half term this week.
2) Is it worth responding by giving a statement to support your performance on the test day?.. Or is it waste of time as everyone seems to be getting the same email.
3) Is it safe to assume that you have achieved 7/8/9 band and they want to recheck or want you to explain how you scored so high?
4) Out of all people who received this in previous months, was anyone’s score less than 6?

Hi,I took the test on 13th/May at the Lewisham Southwark College(waterloo) and my result is also withheld.I called the college today and they said that they were waiting the results too. British council randamly pick the date to invetstigate and that was the 13th/May unluckily…The college was not allowed to tell me the exact number of results were withheld but it’s great number they said. By the way,where I took the test,the candidates were around 50 people.
I haven’t been asked to write report so I wouldn’t.
That was my very first time have taken IELTS test for immigration purpose. It’s quite urgent as well. Hopefully this is not the reason why my result is delayed. I only need score 5 for GT.

I think most of the UK test takers from May 13th got the same email. I need band 7 in GT for immigration purposes, I hope I get it!.. Not keen on the idea of going back to take another test.

I took my exam on 13th May 2017 with IDP Kuwait and was waiting for my results on 26th May, unfortunately, I received a mail of results being withheld like many others with a paragraph about writing a statement to support my test performance.
“Should you wish to offer any information that may support your test performance on 13th May 2017, please send a scanned handwritten statement to us at verification.ielts@idp.com within 14 days of the date of this letter. A template has been provided with this letter for you to use. Your statement must be written in English in your own handwriting and signed by you “.
On the next day, I received another mail telling that IELTS Kuwait will provide an update on 2nd June 2017.
My question is should I go ahead and write the statement now I know that I will get an update on 2nd June? Moreover, what should I write in my support of test performance?
I have not done anything wrong. Will this letter be helpful?

I had my test on May 13th in Cairo, Egypt and I have also received the quality email like many others. However, there was an incident that I was thinking about sending, but I am not sure that sending such an incident would do me any good.
The incident was as follows:
While I was writing Task 2, the exam instructor announced that there was 10 minutes only remaining to the end of the test. As a result, I panicked and got more nervous, because I was even half way through my essay. Surprisingly, after 10 minutes she repeated the same announcement giving us 10 minutes more. At that time, I realized that she had made a mistake the first time saying 10 minutes instead of 20 minutes.
I was really angry, but there was nothing I could do at that time.
Now, while there is a chance of sending such information, will it be useful to me?

Thanks for sharing your experience. There should be a clock on the wall for students to be able to manage their time. All centers should guarantee a clock on the wall. So, I hope students will all check this before they choose their test center.

We had some technical difficulties with the headphones on IELTS listening module. So we were asked to do Reading and Writing first. Listening was conducted later.
Since the standard order of the exam is listening reading and writing , this might be reported as test centre malpractice. Because of this irregular conduct , candidates result were withheld.

Hello Liz, I gave the given the exam on 13/05/2017. My result is not showing online on Ielts result section. I didn’t appeared for the speaking section. My question is, will I get the result or not for the reading, writing and listening section. Same thing happened to me here in KSA. It was my 3rd attempt and I was highly expecting my desired band this time, but on Friday afternoon i received an email stating that “IELTS results of 13th May 2017 are under investigation”. It is not mentioned any where that particularly only my results are under examination and also no date is mentioned that when it will release.
After going through many IELTS forums, I learned that majority of 13th May 2017 test taker have same complaint.

I have a strong feeling that for middle east countries especially, IELTS administration held the results so that they can extract more money as 3 June will be the only option for GT candidates in the month of June. Delaying 13th May results and releasing them after 3rd June means that more takers will participate in 3rd June test, which means more money (just a thought).

Yes, I spoke to the customer service representative and I understand it’s the case with 350+ other candidates who appeared from the same Centre. However, they are still not very sure about the rrason(s) and they did not have any answer to why this major chunk of results are withheld. They have asked me to follow up again on June 1st .

IELTS needs to understand that withholding results for an unreasonable period may lead to harsh consequences for various test takers. While the admission declaration form does state that they may withhold the tests, any such withholding cannot be unreasonable. For some people, delay in IELTS result may distort or destroy the purpose for which they took the IELTS test. This practice needs to be condemned at all the possible fronts and IELTS must be sent a clear message that its internal affairs must not have an impact on the commitments that they have made.
Its time we all raise a public interest litigation against IELTS they are unreasonably putting candidates and their plans under stress by such moves. Instead of declaring results in 2 weeks; they might take a week extra to do all such random quality checks and announce the results for everyone together. Such partial release of results puts people at a great disadvantage and causes immense duress!
IELTS can’t armtwist people like this! This is very unprofessional and needs to be corrected!
I agree with you Vignesh, we should find a way to protest together. I personally think there is a backlog as they might not be staffed appropriately to deal with the demand of exam takers. Instead of owning up to their problem, they are just sending the same email of “investigation” to buy time to mark the papers. Yes, I just got the same email. My test date was same as yours but my center was in Dubai. I have read somewhere that they hold the results for rechecking if there is a major band difference in one of the module.

Hi. The same situation happened with me. I also took ielts on 13th of May in London (International House), and today I received email saying that my results are withheld and are being investigated.
What is more, they ask to provide any information which may support my test results.
(the letter says: “should you wish to offer any iformation that may support your test performance”)

I called IH and they told me to just write anything I remembered from my experience that day, wrote it and sent it back.
This is all very frustrating and the worst part is they did not give me a time frame like the guy up there saying he received a message saying there will be an update on June 7.
I did read somewhere that they usually hold them until before the 4th exam date after ours, which is the 8th of June, so looks like that’s the logic behind June 7.

I have taken the 13th May exam at the same center IH in London, and got the same email.
What I think it is strange is for them to ask for each of us to write something to support our test result, which makes us question the reason for this. And answering “what you remember about that day” does not really answer what was proposed on the email.
In my case “I feel that this was the best IELTS exam that I have ever taken”. How can this answer support my result??

When it says: Recognizing organizations will be able to view this outcome online.
Would the outcome of the current investigation be available in someone’s profile permanently? And in case the candidate had a future test report, then would the old outcome still exist in his profile?
I assume if the answer was yes, then its the end because the candidate had a history of malpractice or misconduct , therefor the chances of being accepted in a professional organization or an immigration authority might be very limited.

i have received an investigation email regarding my results, and till now i didn’t receive any email, i have checked my spam and my inbox, i ‘ve called my center many times and they keep telling me that they don’t know anything and that they cannot tell me anything.
I have applied because it is necessary for my employment contract. i might lose this contract because of their delay.

I have the same issue, my results are on hold. The test center sent a mail stating NOTICE OF INVESTIGATION ON IELTS TEST sat on April 29th 2017 in Toronto, Canada location. Its been a week I have no clue what is happening. I tried calling my test center, they say IDP will be in touch with you. I tried calling IDP Australia, the customer contact agent sent a URGENT enquiry mail to idpieltsaustralia@idp.com & CCed me as well but still no one bothered to reply me back. This test was planned in such a way that I get my results on May 11th and I can apply for my immigration on 19th May(which is the deadline). Its really really frustrating, what else can I do ? is there anything u can suggest me.

Guys, I am going to tell you that my results from ielts investigation got released. I sat on the exam January 7,2017 at British Council in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. On 20 th April. Hi, IDP emailed me that I can collect my official report on May 2. That’s exactly 12 days after they withheld my result.
I took my IELTS test on 08 April, 2017 from Islamabad center, Pakistan. I have a friend who also took it on the same day from the same center. She can preview her results online but I can’t.. whenever I put the search, it says ‘results not found’. What does it mean? Does it mean my result has been withheld? Or is there likely to be a technical issue? Is anyone else facing the same?
Absolutely same here though I received an sms saying results are out and collect the test report form
OK so it turns out that it was just a technical glitch… and they’ve now updated their system (after I registered my concern on their helpline) and added my result to the system so now I’m able to view my score and hopefully will get the hard copy tomorrow. Hope everyone facing the same issue is relieved the way I am. Please call your local branches and register a complaint. Not being able to preview your results online does not necessarily mean they were withheld.

In my views, its simply bureaucracy and ill-structured quality check procedure without proper time-lines, how come quality-check can take more time than checking the papers?

Had my exam last April 8 here in Abu Dhabi, I was supposed to get my result today but received a notification of investigation e-mail instead. I received my result today. It was informed via email by BC to come to their office to collect Test Result Form. I know it is frustrating to have to wait so long but in fact, we can do nothing but wait. It has been roughly 3 months to receive my result since the test date. To be honest, I am preparing to register for another IELTS test because I thought they will withhold my result permanently.
Frankly speaking, I even contacted directly Cambridge but it did not work. They told me that I should communicate with my test center instead of them lol. Please be informed that the estimated time to finish their investigation is within 12 weeks of the test date according to Cambridge’s website, therefore you should be patient 🙂

Same here. I got exam on 4th March, it still says no candidate here.. I contacted with two different headquarters in my country and they approved my information however they only said “wait a bit longer”. This is 3th day after results were announced. I also sent email to another Center, they said “your results were posted to your adress at the same day the announcement were made and please keep trying results.ieltsessentials.com in order to see your results”

Visit your local test center directly if you need to. Also continue to email them. Check that they have the right address for you. It’s not a nice situation and I do understand your worry. But keep your head clear and try to get it resolved.

You must decide if you want to continue waiting. When you take the exam twice, you can decide which results to use. All results are valid for 2 years.

I spoke to the BC Authorities about the status of results for the Feb 11 exams. They said that they will provide an update on March 31. It is highly frustrating as it will be almost 2 months since the exams. In the meanwhile friends let us help each other by sharing what ever updates we have. No, You can not see your result online after 40 days. You have to wait for hard copy that will be post to your address

How much time does it take for the TRF to reach us? I appeared from BC and people say it takes around 15 days. Is it true?
Actually once I received the email said that my result no longer withheld I called the BC and they said that I can come by myself and get the TRF directly and so I did. This was in Saudi Arabia I don’t know if that applicable at all BC
I can understand the pain you guys are going through..I went through this a month back while I was waiting for my 7th jan IELTS results..so let me share my experience..
1. you won’t be able to see your results online. You have to collect it from bc or idp ( wherever you registered)
2. There’s no gurantee whether your second attempt will be withheld or not in future.
3. Your results if withheld, may be released within as soon as 1week to even 3-4months.
4. If they suspect any sort of forgery they might parmanently withheld or even cancel it and they will not even give u any explanation :-/
5. U can sit for another exam any time

Yes they notified me via email. I don’t think you are going to get results online cause mine was released within 40 days but I couldn’t see it. Just keep on checking your email. They might even ask you to submit notes regarding your expected score (as I ave heard from a few people).

Yes, I appeared on the same date for the test from Ahmedabad. It has been two weeks now and no e-mail or update has been sent to me from their side. Their helpline numbers are useless. Hi Guys, I spoke to the BC Authorities today, they said will provide update on the Feb 11 exam on March 31, 2017. This is highly frustrating. This is a lot of delay. The BC website doesn’t display the result for more than 40 days. Your result is probably cancelled. You better re-take the test before the good universities get filled up. I took the test on 16th of Feb and the result should’ve been out on 1st of March.

I did the exam with my friend on the same date and our result was withheld, after 2 weeks I got my result but her result still withheld and when she asked BC about it they said that they just realese the result of 50 person and yet there will realese more result each week. Yes they do. BC emailed me when they released my result but they don’t give the score on email neither on telephone. I get my score when I got te TRF by myself in the same day they email me

Please read the article above. When you signed your application form, you gave consent for them to do this.
Yes we sign the consent because there is no option other then to agree with their condition. However, there should also be reasonable time frame for the delay. It is also not right to withold the result for so long and then decide not to publish the result. Apart from agreeing to their condition we are also paying for their services. Imagine paying for a product but its upto the seller to give you what you pay for…they also have to follow the rules of fair trade.
I completely agree. I firmly believe that IELTS should stipulate a time frame. But IELTS so far have done nothing about this. Withholding results for checking is fine but limits should be set and communication clear.

I have learned a lot from ieltsliz.com and now it times to give back by sharing my IELTS journey. I tool IELTS 3 times in 2016 with following scores (1st: L-7,R-7, S-7, W-6.5 | 2nd: L-7.5, R-7.5, S-8, W-6.5 | 3rd: L-8.5, R-7.5, S-6.5, W-7). I received my result (3rd one) through SMS by BC and within 24 hrs, BC sent another SMS followed by an email that my results are withheld for investigation and I should disregard the SMS sent.
I patiently waited for 2 weeks and sent a follow up email to BC to inquire about my withheld result, however they again replied it is still under investigation. I waited another week and called my Test Center unconsciously to check if they have received my TRF (although there was no confirmation by BC) and to my surprise the lady was like “yes your TRF is with us”!!!!!!!!!
Since I was looking for 7 bands in each module, I applied for an EOR and again waited for another 9 weeks for the result and guess what !!!!!!!! Yesterday I got an email by BC confirming that my EOR is successful with an increase in band score and I will be getting back my refund.
To summarize, It was a very long and painful journey but I survived by keep trying and patiently waited to get the score I needed.
I hope my story would help IELTS candidates.

As I understand, majority of the results of Dubai are already released. If you didn’t get any sms/email, check with BC call centre.

My result for 4th January is under investigation. Anyone has the same problem for 4th Jan test? They have given me an option to write as much as possible to explain my score. Is it worth to write them? I didn’t have any problem with first part of the test but for speaking, examiner made me really uncomfortable and I could not do as well as I had done in my previous attempts (band 8). Examiner was in hurry as well because there were more than hundred students for the test and only few examiners. I have attempted ielts couple of times but speaking experience has never been this much bad.
I think my result is under investigation because I did well in first 3 parts and speaking didn’t go as good as it went in previous attempts. Do you guys think it is best to write them? Did anyone have similar experience? Please help.

I dont get it at all. They are asking you to explain your scores. How can you explain your scores if they are withholding it? They should let you know first what you are going to explain.

This is an unfortunate situation. Until you get your certificate, you should not use your results for anything. In this case, you must be honest with the people that you told your results to.

It is possible that results may be permanently withheld which means you need to take the test again. However, you should contact your test center to check.

Hi, I took my test on 3rd December 2016. My results were due on 16th, but got delayed like everyone else. However, I received it today. Most common cause for the delay I think is due a gap of 2 between individual bands. They recheck it with other examiners before releasing the results I guess.
So I would suggest everyone to keep faith, remain focussed and complete all other formalities for the university application. The results will definitely come if you haven’t done anything wrong. Wishing everyone the best in their endeavours.

I sat in exam on 3rd December, and I viewed my result just once on Internet then it disappeared, now its showing no result found. Even I found my result is not fair, they gave me less bands, even how much good I did. I do not know what Ielts really wants, especially in Pakistan, they are not willing to give bands. At end of speaking test, the examiner asked me why I am giving ielts, whats my requirnment, have I appreared before. and said keep trying you will get your scores. I do not know how much more money they want from me to keep trying, however I was enough good to get my scores.

I understand the fear and apprehension one has when the results are withheld, I have gone through this. But trust me, you will get your result sooner or later. I appeared for my exam on 29th Oct and got the TRF on 17th Dec. The wait certainly is killing and you are overwhelmed with all the possible negative thoughts, but it will come to an end. I now know these are just random sample checks that they do and has nothing else behind it. They keep releasing TRF for few candidates every week, so the numbers are reducing, and you shall eventually get your TRF.

I took my test on 26th Nov from IDP and today i got a letter stating that cambridge has withheld my result.
My result was also delayed on 16th july and got my result after 52 days of test date with 6.5 in reading, 7.5 in listening and 7 each in speaking and writing.
This is the second time i am facing this situation. I missed my november plab attempt because of the delay. And looks like i am going to miss my march attempt too because of their negligence. They have clearly made ielts a business rather than an English Language test.

I want to recheck my IELTS speaking module..I scored 7.5 and I need 8. This was my second attempt. I scored 8 in my first attempt. Is there any probability I can get extra 0.5 marks after recheck ?
Also during my speaking test, the examiner forgot to turn on the recorder and after asking me five questions she realised that and started the test again. What can I do on this issue?
There is nothing you can do about the examiner forgetting to turn on the recording device. The test was started again in the right way so you still had a full speaking test recorded. For remarking, of course it is possible to get a remark. But getting band 8 in one test, doesn’t mean you will get band 8 in a second. The English language you produce in each test can vary which can account for differences of 0.5. However, I can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t try for a remark. Good luck!

i call them and they said they don’t know why it is showing on portal but we did not receive your result. we will confirm you later and will inform you via email.

I would like to say that my wife has took the Ielta life skills A1 exam five times, on the 4th attempt her results were withheld for 3 months and it turned out to be fail.
She resat the exam on the 17th of November and after a week we received a email saying it was chosen randomly for investigation.
I am confident that these investigation are not random and they are failing people deliberately especially when that person has attempted the exam several times.
I am confident that my wife should have passed on the 3rd attempt, she speaks English well and has even rolled in an English course at British council.
Can you please advice me on what I should do, I can not wait another 3months in a country that is not ours there’s a lot of expenses and time wasting. The wife travelled to Egypt to sit the exam cuz there is no test centre in her country. It’s almost 9 months trying to get an A1 pass. 6 months wasted in on pointless investigations without and outcome feedbacks.

As far as I understand from my concersation with BC, we can resit if results are cancelled-there is no clause on resitting.
However, you may still recheck with them.

Well i m feeling more tensed after reading all the comments. I gave my test on 5th of nov it was life skills A1 test n i m still waiting for the result. They said it was a technical issue. But someone said tht it was due to the a lil bit help you provided to the girl sit next to u. Although i did not help anyone .i just said to the examiner tht this girl is not getting what you are saying, just say in that language which she understands 🙁
You are able to write to IELTS and explain why situation which you think they should know about. This is explained in the email they sent you.

I’m facing same scenario. It’s very disappointing because two of my friends who took the exam same as my schedule dated 29th October got their results already.
We paid for that and at the same time, they were so strict during the exams, i wonder why they are treating this like a heavy crime that needs to be investigated. The main problem is that I am travelling to my country for a month and the agency is waiting for the test results before they can proceed with my application in Canada. It’s so frustrating that they don’t even apologize for the delay.

I had appeared IELTS Exam on 27th August 2016 here in Kathmandu, Nepal. THE RESULTS ARE NOT OUT YET !!!
Now, it’s just a week away to complete 3 months of shameful scenario created by BC.
I had contacted to BC-UK office-asked me to wait. How long is the wait? I could complete a short term course/License Exam/my study preparation etc.

As this page explains, there is no time limit for waiting. IELTS have not set a limit. You can see that some students are waiting months and others just a few weeks. It’s a dreadful situation but until IELTS change their procedures, there’s not much to be done.

I Took the test too on the 29 Oct 2016, Al Nahda Boys school Abu Dhabi. My result too is withheld. What a chaos? Due to lack of expertise / experience of the exam centre invigilators…. I am sure the papers might have got mixed up. Will the money be refunded or will I be allowed to take a retest at no additional charges?
I made a terrible mistake in the reading test, instead of writing Yes/ No, I wrote True/ False. Am expecting 7, can this singular mistake drastically reduce my score as I’ve been worried ever since.
This would be considered an error. Anyway, fingers crossed you can still hit band 7!

Usually the tests are withheld for quality checking purposes. However, sometimes they are withheld if IELTS suspect cheating. This doesn’t mean that they suspect you. However, they are giving you a chance to email them if you wish to add any information about your test which might be useful to them when checking the results again. If you think there is a big difference between your score in different parts of the test, you might want to email them and explain about the accident with your pencil sharpener in the writing test which caused you to struggle. You decide if you want to inform them of that or just wait for the results to come out. Let me know what happens. Also contact your IELTS test center if you want more advice.

I recieved an email that my result is withheld because it is under invistigation. I called british council and they told my this is just for quality check and it is not related to your score. I just wonder if they doubt that there is a malpractice will they compare our result to previous result or will they see the difference in 2 section performance , it is a fact that sometimes candidate get for example 7.5 in reading and 5 in speaking , I think this is not fair to doubt the candidate was cheating by looking for his score , except if there is a similar pattern in writing between 2 candidates . Please miss reply to me as soon as possible because I am really so afraid . I did very well in reading and listening but I was stressful when I did speaking and I did some interruption , I am really worried about what is going on ???!!!!!!!
As I explained on this page, quality checks are the most common reason for delayed results and you have agreed to allow this by signing the application form.

It’s rare that listening and reading scores change with remarking. Those scores are calculated on right or wrong answers, not examiner interpretation. However, you must decide for yourself what you wish to do.

I appeared on September 24 as well and got this email tonight. I’m imagining all kinds of mishaps. This is beyond frustrating. I cannot even pinpoint any criteria for the investigation. Some people whose results were withheld had all 4 bands between 8-9. So it is not always the case that for a difference of more than 2 bands in any two components, they reevaluate the test. This waiting sucks and I don’t even know how long it will take.

As I explained with all the detail on this page. There is nothing you can do. You have signed an agreement with IELTS which allows them to withhold your results. It is a shame but you must wait.

I have given ielts on 15th September in Baroda,India. My result was to be declared on 27 th september, but on 27th I have got a message and an email from BC stating that my result is withheld due to third party quality checking audit.

You had telephonic call to BC Nepal or main BC….Where are you from?….I am from Kathmandu…..I have contacted BC Nepal through Facebook and they told me generally it takes 3-4 weeks minimum…I was aiming to apply for November intake…Which is now gone…
What information did they provide you? My results were delayed as well. They told me I ve to wait till 7th to get an update.

Today I got the hold result of 15 september…I recieve Overall 6 band…Got 7 in listening and 6.5 in reading but got only 5.5 in both speaking and writing which was kind of a bummer…

Haven’t got my result declared yet for the test date 20th august . I had some headphone problems in the beginning and they had to switch the headphones in middle of test. So, complained to idp. They said theyhave forwarded complaint to test centre. Test centre gave me option for free resit. But no result has been declared for my original test. No email from idp that its been withheld. So i emailed them and person who replied said result is with varification department. I emailed that department as well but no reply. Its been about a month now and i decided to take the option from test centre for resit. No i am wondering would i ever get my result ? By choosing to resit did i do any mistake ? Would it cause hindrance in releasing old test result ?? Does any one has experience in scenario like this ??? Thanks
It won’t hinder the release of your results. If you take the test again, you will end up with two sets of results from two tests – this means you can choose which set of results to use for your future.

You need to contact your IELTS test center to ask them. Also check your emails and spam folder to see if your results have been delayed.
Hi Liz, I’ve been checking my emails several times including the spam but nothing about ielts result. I really need the result for my nursing profession, can’t practice without it. I hope it comes out good. British council seems to be misleading the candidates.

Had my exam on 4 August. Finally got my results, which had been withheld so far. L-9, R-8, W-8.5, S-7.5. Overall-8.5.
While I am pretty satisfied with this, I can’t help but think that something’s off with my Reading scores as I was sure that I hadn’t made a single mistake in this section. Should I go for a re-evaluation? What’s stopping me from doing so is the fact that even if my Reading score is upgraded to a 9, it won’t make any difference to my overall score.

Thanks for sharing 🙂 It’s unlikely your reading score will change with a remark, although never impossible. Scores are based on correct or incorrect answers rather than examiner interpretation for reading so mistakes are very rare.

You must wait for your results. You don’t lose marks for indenting. As long as your paragraphs are clear, it’s fine. Just be patient and wait for your results.

In the same boat here. Took IELTS on Aug 4th BC in Bangalore. Got SMS on Aug 17th pushing next update to Aug 26th. Then again got SMS on Aug 26th pushing next update to Sep 2nd. Again, got SMS on Sep 2nd pushing next update to Sep 9th. It obviously looks crappy. Can’t believe these guys are still around in the market after delaying results for about 75% of the test takers!
I gave my test on 04 August, British Council, Hyderabad. My result is withheld. First got a date of 26’th Aug, next 2’nd Sep, and now 9’th Sep. They are pushing the dates by 7 days for every update. We cant take re-exam for IELTS because, since our previous result is withheld there is a chancing of withhelding the new result also, so don’t fall into that trap. Yes it happened for candidates last year. I lost hope on this crooks, already missed some deadlines, cant take it anymore. Taking TOEFL on 17’th Sep.

Dont worry. If you took the test from British Council and want updates, type RESULT space CANDIDATE NUMBER space PASSPORT NUMBER and send it to 928 989 2898. After sending you will get a message saying that “no details found” etc etc but don’t worry you will get the updates from nowonwards

there is an article had been written in (THE TIMES) 1 month ago …..It reported all miserable situation regarding this and writer considered this action from Cambridge as irresponsible to student they need their result to enroll for upcoming semester.
It is certainly a serious issue that IELTS withhold results without informing people when they will be released. The lack of communication from IELTS to ensure that candidates know when their results will be released is worrying. IELTS should adopt a fixed policy of how long results will be withheld so that students do not suffer as a consequence.
Very true. It’s very frustrating to type details on the online IELTS results page every day, and see the ‘No Results Found’ message. Also, yesterday they have updated the online results page to retain the results only for 29 days instead of 40 days after the test.

I had taken ielts on 16 july 2016 from AEO Islamabad and i havent got any results. I contacted the office many times but they say they cant tell me when will i get results and they don’t know the reasons of delay.
I feel like AEO Is fraudulent organisation collecting fees from students and not giving results.

Speaking is marked only on your range and accuracy of English language so have a think about the range of grammar you used and how accurate it was as well as how well you expanded all answers. Did you develop your talk? There are no questions in part 2, just suggestions to talk about and it’s your task to expand the talk in different directions.
My exam took place July 16th in Riyadh, saudi arabia and result has been withheld for more than 3 weeks.. Yesterday, August 21st my result was released..
I got 6.5.. It didn’t reach my expectations, anyway.
I got an email yesterday 23/7/16 as well saying that my 30th July result is out. And it will be posted the next day. I checked my result online and I didn’t get the marks I needed 🙁 my time has just been wasted waiting for a result that did not meet my expectation. If it was out on time I could have studied again and by now I would have already given another exam! What a shame!

By quality checks do they mean that they think we might have cheated and they want to recheck our paper. Nd if so on what grounds do they think so.. On what basis actually??
They might want to recheck the papers if they suspect cheating but mostly it is to check that they are happy with their testing system. They need to do quality checks.
So they pick students randomly?
I don’t know how they organise their quality checks. That is something IELTS has not explained to the public.

I appeared IELTS on 30th July. I saw my result in online system and found that I had got 8 band. After one day I received Email from British Council saying that my result had been withheld. Now it is not even available on online system.

I wrote my IELTS on August 4th, results were supposed to be out by today (August 17th) noon. I just now received an SMS and an email stating my results would be delayed due to strict quality control procedures. Does this mean I have got pretty good scores? Logically, you wouldn’t want to recheck scores if it is an average or a low score. Just trying to be positive amidst the frustration!
I read online that the delay may be caused because a candidate has an enormous difference in the modules. For example 8 in reading but 5.5 in writing
Honestly, I do not believe that is the reason because I think it’s normal one to be good at reading but not so good at writing.

I did my exam on the 16th of July and still did not receive my results, for the amount of money we are paying to the British Council should have been able to get the results on time. Plus you are holding the results for every exam session for “quality control” so you really are not sure about the quality of the exam you are offering?! I did the IELTs 3 times few years ago back in my country and the results came out the date they told us.
I think we urgently need to raise our issue in British Broad Cast (BBC). Either they release our result or give us TRF number for admission in concerned universities.
Honestly feel like there should be something we can do. This is unfair on SO many candidates. By the looks of it, more than 40% of the test results get held up in EACH sitting.
I think we should raise an international level concern / petition regarding the incompetency of BC and IDP. They never bother about our emails or calls regarding the results. Some results are delayed while others are permanently cancelled. If they are unable to declare our results within specific time, then they should refund us our money so that we go for an alternate testing service. Furthermore, I advice all candidates who are seeking to appear in IELTS; BC or IDP, do not waste your money, as its most probable that your result will be withheld.
Unfortunately, there is no alternative. What other choice does candidates have but to use their services?

I did at Guildford uni and they said that they will be sending out emails today so if the centre you are going to is faraway I wouldn’t waste my time just give them a call instead. Yes I know. Since Friday midnight I felt like I was having an anxiety attack, when I kept checking and checking like crazy and the result not showing. I even ask my husband to check from his mobile in case if it was my mobile phone error! I had ielts ‘thousand’ of times in the past but never had this issue before! So I was quite shaken up when the result did not showed up online. The person told me that it could be this week or next and let the word linger meaning it could be longer than next week. I was just speechless on the phone. But I did receive an email later on saying what’s happening but no fixed date of when it will be out for sure.

Still waiting on the 16th July test I took in London – no update yet. I re-took the IELTS on 4th of August and I am really scared that that one is also going to be delayed. Need to apply for a work visa & I feel like I am going to miss out on an opportunity of a life-time because of this. I called the test centre and was basically told we don’t know why they’ve been withheld or how long it will be, then called the British council and they said they didn’t know and to call the test centre! Round in circles with no answer! All I did manage to get was that it’s pretty much a countrywide issue and hopefully we’ll have results in another 2 weeks, but that’s not guaranteed!

i have the same problem. british council and my test centre in London – vicious circle. I’m so disappointed and furious though i know it is not personal but i take it as if it is. how is it possible to run security checks in the exam period???
Quality checks on their testing….what at mine and everyone else’s expense. I would presume that 13 days would be sufficient time to preform any checks.
The reading and listening require nothing to be validated, its a check box for crying out loud.
The writing is the only part of the test which requires any effort to mark.
A better approach would be to provide a deadline on when the quality or validation will be completed by. This clearly highlights a fault in their process which with the revenue they receive from this should be fixed.

Exam results from 30th July in the UK taken at Reading have been withheld, at least mine anyway. The team on the day did advise that a lot of papers are being audited now, however a few months to get the result is ridiculous.
Personally I can’t believe that part of the advise is to re-take as that might be quicker. As students we have all paid a fairly large sum of money and the reading/listening doesn’t require any complex marking.
At approx £6000 per session I think I should start my own “official” test up.

This was my second attempt.. I scored 1 point greater for all segment expect speaking compared to my previous result. For speaking test, first attempt I got 6.5 and I am 100% sure that performed better than last time.

It’s certainly possible to consider a remark. I can’t say that it will make a difference but if you feel you did well, then it’s worth thinking about.

It means that IELTS want to check their own testing system and make sure everything is the right standard. It is about their test, not about your test results.

What if they find out something was indeed below standards, from their side. they might cancel the exam / attempt. Will they refund the exam fees ? i am happy to take it again, but then it costs Money.. who’s ensuring that i’d get my refund, and furthermore, who’s ensuring that this second attempt’s result will not be withheld again ?
That’s a good question. If the results are not issued, you would need to check with IELTS if they refund the cost of the exam.
Of late, there has been quite a few cases where the results were held up and candidates put to great hardship. One wonders why the candidates shd be put thru so much trouble (many are waiting for the results so that hey can carry on with other formalities for migration) in the name of quality control. Is the very quality they profess to ensure being compromised by these so called qc checks? Probably, British Council should find a way to do the checks without inconveniencing the poor candidates or make their system more perfect so that such checks would become unnecessary.
I completely agree. But meanwhile, students should make sure they take their IELTS test at least 3 or 4 month before their deadline.
There are cases, like mine, where people don’t know 3-4 months ahead that they need the IELTS. The exam is expensive and the least we can expect from it is get the results on time.

Quick question. I’ve marked ‘C, E’ as answers for 2 questions which were multiple choice, as in, the question was choose 2 answers for question no. 25,26. Instead of marking it as ‘C or E’ . Will this be marked correct or incorrect by the examiner?

I don’t really understand. If there are two boxes, you write one letter in each box.
Well, it was it was question 25,26. Choose 2 correct answers from the given 5 options. So in the answer sheet, for these question numbers, I’ve marked the answers as C, E in both the boxes instead of putting one of each in 25 and 26 or else putting both these options separated by an ‘or’ for these boxes. Will this be marked as incorrect? I’m hopeful since it’s manual checking and not an automatic one. Any reply would be appreciated.
If you choose two letters for two answers, then you can only put one letter in each box. Anything else is probably marked wrong.

What the hell? I checked the result at 12.10pm. And it was L:7, R:7, writing:6 & Speaking=6.5 overall 6.5. 6.5 was required and I was really happy. I saved the screenshot. I, too, appeared in 16th july IELTS and got the same email for delay in IELTS. I got the visibility of the result for a brief moment around 12pm but nothing after that and eventually the delay email came. We should all remain in contact and pursue this collectively. I have applied for canadian immigration and my IELTS has expired now if i dont submit my scores quick enough i might get rejected. So lets hope and pray that BC dont mess it up.

Same here. I think it is better to reaapper as it is not certain that our result will get published within 3 weeks. I heard it may take 6 months time too.. its so frustating .. and confusing.

My exam 14 july . Results release on 27 July. But still haven’t came. Have same problem any other students. Plz if know why delay .tell me
I think these kind of delays are just b***s*** as they take so many extensive measures to prevent any sort of foul play. Let’s say they want to recheck the papers, even then why is it taking more than 13 days. It took that many in the first place to score the papers of all the students. Now they can not do it for just a few.
I took the exam on 14th July and the result was supposed to come today, instead I get a mail from idp stating that my result has been withheld and is under investigation. This is frustrating. I needed my results asap but now seems like I have to wait. Anyone having any idea about when the result may be announced.

I wrote my exam on June 25 th .results are still withheld .really tensed about my result.And I think I have uneven band scores.:-(

I had given my ielts exam on 18th june 2016 and i am still waiting for my results. Atleast idp should give us a tentative date, as our future career plan depends on the result. Those who had given it through the british council have already got their results the problem is only with IDP ielts.

I gave my ielts exam on 18 june 2016 and have not got my result till now and i am quite worried about what is happening i have no update regarding when my result is going to come and has it been put on hold i am not left with much time in hand if i will not receive my result in time my year will be spoiled and parents have also started thinking that giving ielts and studying abroad is not reliable because of the unprofessional behaviour by idp
I entirely understand that it is their part of work to check the security and management of test but simultaneously I also think that it’s our right to know the proper explanation and the time span we are supposed to wait should also be defined. So that if not ielts we can avail other opportunities we have in time

You can’t combine. You use one test certificate or the others.

It depends on what you will use this results for. U can combine 2 results if you apply for Engineer of Australia or similar organization
My test was on June 25th and I received an email letting me know that my result is delayed and next update is july 29th. Previously in 2015 my result was delayed by a week and I didnt expect it to happen twice! . And as per Navdeep , I may have to take toefl from here onwards. 6 months is totally outrageous and IELTS is totally being unfair to candidates.

What if you get 9 band in reading, 9 band in listening, 7 band in speaking but 6 band in writing. What are the possibilities to get band increase in writing during recheck. And How it could be possible?
Is it must to have regularity in your results of speaking,listening, writing and speaking?
My test was on 9th january 2016 and scores for my test were declared after 6 months i.e. on 14th July 2016.
So, it may delay upto 6 months also.
