  1. If you don’t mind, I’d like to have this kind of practice more with similar level of difficulty. Thank you so much Liz, its been helpful

    • Thanks for letting me know. I’ll start preparing a new post to practise locating synonyms πŸ™‚

  2. Jestine says

No.5 Persuasive was difficult for me.
    Other words were simple.

  3. HI Liz, I’m enjoying every single test from your website, thanks a lot.
I got a question: does “a host of” have the same meaning than a group, a suite, a set? Its sounds similar to me.

    • We can sometimes use “a host of” to indicate a large number or collection of people or things. We could say “this company has a host of problems” or “there is a whole host of reasons why this company is failing”. In the case of this passage, ” a host of fossils” means a collection of fossils.
You might be thinking of words that we use for specific groups such as “a pride of lions” or a “gaggle of geese” or “a parliament of owls” – these are all group words for certain animals.

  4. Qaiser says

i had no clue what plumage was but i guessed it as it said covered by plumage so i thought it has to be feathers.

    • Exactly. This is what IELTS is all about. You may not know each individual word, but you can guess from the context. Even a native speaker in English will not know all words in their own language – all people use context to understand language.

  5. I got 7/8

  6. Meat eating… carnivorous
    A group/set….a suite
    Stance/position…posture
    Resemblance…. similarity
    Persuasive…. compelling
    Feathers… plumage
    Ancestors… predecessor
    Characteristics/quality… features

  7. Thank You Liz so thankful. You are doing all these for us.

  8. Balkis says

    Hi Liz,
Thank you very much for your valuable lessons online. I am planning to sit for the exam this Saturday. Hope you continue to help those who really need it. May God impart his choisest blessings to you and grant you strength and confidence.
    Thank you again.
Note: Could you please let me know whether it is okay to use etcetera (etc.) at the exam.

    • You didn’t mention which section of the test you want to use “etc”. I wouldn’t recommend it for any section. For writing, just choose your examples – two is enough. For speaking, give as many as you want. God luck with your test πŸ™‚
