I’m struggling and reaching out to you

Hi guys,

I want to apologise for this post, but many of you once said I could reach out for support if I ever needed. I do need it.

This year started with promise, but it has been spiralling for a while and my health is being affected by the strain. I’m struggling right now to stay strong and keep my mind focused on positive thoughts. I fight alone in isolation, which makes it harder for me. And not being able to leave the house also prevents me accessing the joy of nature. My character is a determined one, but even the strongest sometimes need to reach out for inspiration, kindness and support.

I know I should focus my mind on providing free lessons. It brings me joy in times of darkness. But when things are so very hard, your mind can wander down the wrong paths and focus becomes difficult. I need to get my vision back. I need to get my fire back.

If you have time, please remind me of the great things worth fighting for in life, share an inspiring story, make me laugh – bring some strength and joy into my life. And if there’s anyone else fighting hard right now, we will all benefit.

I hope to be back on top soon. Fighters always survive. Thank you for being there.

All the best to you

Liz

  3. Dear Liz,

A few weeks ago, I discovered your channel and was amazed by the wealth of free materials and lectures available on your website and YouTube channel. In a time when people often focus on monetizing every word they say and every piece of information they share, regardless of its value, your work inspires.
So many people need to pass this exam to gain confidence and become one step closer to their dream: education or life abroad. Some of them find it hard and even impossible to pay for tutors. You are the magician for them. Be sure, in this decade, you helped thousands. These are thousands of people who will remember your name when they speak about the beginning of their success.

You are indeed a blessing to a great number of students and I hope you are constantly reminded of that. You are an awesome and talented teacher and I am forever grateful to have come across your teachings.

I pray that you make a full recovery and continue to do all that makes you happy.

    Liz,

Thank you for opening your heart and letting us see your vulnerability. Even when words feel insufficient, please know that your truth resonates deeply. Life ebbs and flows—some days bring radiant light, and others, a heavy shade. But in reaching out, you are shining through the darkness; your courage glimmers like a lantern for others, too.

You are not a burden. Your battles, though invisible, are real and deserving of kindness. Storms may swirl, but even amid chaos, there is hope—sometimes faint, sometimes flickering, but always present. When your own strength feels gone, let us lend you some of ours. Together, our compassion can weave a net strong enough to hold you up, even for just a moment.

Please remember, every sunrise brings a chance for healing and hope. The world is brighter with you in it. Take gentle care of yourself. We believe in you—now and always. And whenever you are ready to talk, vent, or simply be, we’re here with open arms and open hearts. You matter, and you are loved.

  6. LIZ,
Hope you find all the strength you need to get you through the challenges you are facing
Your generosity continues to make the world a much better place
    Thank you for sharing
    Sending love & support

  17. Liz, you are an inspiration to me. I am a student from a non-English speaking country, and it’s really difficult accessing quality materials that not even my school has. I also struggle to find experienced teachers to teach me, because I am also restrained by financial problems. Having a dream to study abroad sounds like an unreachable goal, but ever since I stumbled upon your website, it has given me hope that there’s still a chance to learn IELTS for free. That I surely can ace the test, and go beyond my country with high-level knowledge that I obtained from kind people like you. So please, hold on, and keep fighting no matter how hard life can be. Because your efforts have changed the lives of so many people, including myself, to reach their full potential.

  21. Dear Liz,

I’ve been a TEFL teacher for over 10 years but started teaching IELTS for the first time last year. I knew nothing, which was frightening because IELTS students need to know that you know, well, everything about IELTS. I came across your site while researching, asked the DoS what he thought of it, he told me you were one of the best. I’ve done a lot of research and he is quite right; you absolutely are.

The DoS knows about you, all the serious students know about you, and the less serious ones are soon informed. The praise is unanimous. When it comes to the inspiring story you requested, I can’t do much better than the one that you already are. As a teacher, I work to provide the kind of knowledge, confidence, enthusiasm and inspiriation that you provide to goodness knows how many people on a daily basis. But you will already have a million posts on here telling you that already so I appreciate the inspiring story element of my post is somewhat weak. But it still needed saying.

Hopefully, though, I can fulfil the request you made to make you laugh with the joke I would take to a desert island if I were allowed only one. Here goes, fingers crossed:

What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy?
    Don’t know, don’t care.

Liz, you are the best at what you do. Please keep on keeping on.

    All the best,

    TP

  25. Heera says

    Hi Liz,

I am so sorry you’re going through such a dark time in your life. Not being able to access the outside world is difficult and can be such a horrible thing to cope with.

As an educator myself, I find so much joy in teaching my students; they keep me grounded and often remind me of my why. The “why I chose to do this”, “why I still get out of bed when I feel overwhelmed”, and the “why I continue to fight”. I am certain that you will find a way to keep going. Give yourself grace, allow yourself to feel, but don’t let it consume you.

Remember, just like everything in life, this will pass; you will see better days. Hang in there. Sending you love and positivity. Keeping you in my prayers.

    Dear Liz,
You are the key person in bringing happiness to people in different parts of the world; that cannot be done by any powerful leader on earth. So you are not alone. You are in the heart of that person and their families.

A good health condition is one of the most high-priced gifts from the almighty creator. So don’t be disheartened. Pray to him for sound health and life.

  29. Enrique says

    Hi Liz,

I’ve never written to you before, and you don’t know me — I’m just one of many teachers who, thanks to your work, has grown and improved. I don’t know where I’d be now without the support your website has given me over the years. It’s helped me become a better professional, and because of that, it’s helped my students too. Honestly, I don’t think I (or many of us) would have made it this far without what you’ve built.

So, reading your message hit me hard. It’s difficult to see someone who has done so much for others — quietly, generously — now struggling alone. I’m sad to know you’re going through this again. And even though we’re far apart and I’m technically a stranger, I couldn’t stay silent. Because you’re not just “someone on the internet” to me. You’ve made a real difference in my life — in so many lives.

You mentioned needing to laugh, so I’ll try. I once told a student that “sleeping on it” was a great way to solve a problem. The next day she asked me if she should actually put the test under her pillow. We both laughed so hard that I nearly canceled class.

I guess what I’m trying to say is: your work, your kindness, your generosity — they’ve spread far beyond what you probably imagined. And they keep spreading. So let us give some of that back to you now, even if it’s just in a message like this.

    With affection and deep gratitude,
    Enrique
    (Peru)

  30. Enrique says

    Hi Liz,

I’ve never written to you before, and you don’t know me — I’m just one of the many teachers your work has helped. Your website has been a quiet but powerful support in my journey as a teacher. Honestly, I don’t know if I would have made it this far without it. So, even if we’ve never met, I wanted to write.

Reading your message made me feel both sadness and admiration. Sadness, because someone with such a generous heart is suffering again. Admiration, because you still found the strength to share something so honest and vulnerable. That’s a kind of courage that stays with people.

You said you’d appreciate something to laugh at — so here’s a little story from Peru:

Here, when people are broke (which is often), they come up with very creative meals. One of the most famous ones is called “arroz con algo” — literally, “rice with something.” You never know what that “something” will be until the last second. One day it’s tuna, another day it’s a boiled egg, and sometimes… it’s just rice with more rice, but the second one is fried so it feels fancy.

That’s how we survive here — with humor and a lot of improvisation. So if your mind feels like “arroz con algo” right now, that’s okay. You don’t need a perfect plan. Just keep going with whatever ingredients you’ve got today. That’s enough.

You’ve helped so many of us more than you’ll ever know. Now let us help you — even if it’s just with a message, or a smile.

With affection and a big virtual plate of “arroz con algo,”
    Enrique
(From Peru, with a full heart)

Hi Liz, I just finished reading your update, and I want to thank you for the honesty and courage it takes to share something so personal. What you’ve been through is more than anyone should have to carry alone, and yet you’ve continued to show up—with heart, grace, and strength.

You’ve been a steady source for so many for so long you deserve the same, if not more, in return. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The way you keep going, even when things are hard, is empowering more people than you probably realize.

And even though we’re all scattered across the world, please remember that you have support in every corner, quite literally. You might feel physically alone at times, but you are never truly alone.

If the day ever feels right and you have the health for it, maybe try going live on YouTube, even just voice-only. Speaking, even casually, could remind you how much your presence continues to resonate. Gentler days are on their way, and you’re not walking toward them alone.

    Take care <3

Please take all the time you need to rest and heal — your wellbeing matters more than anything else. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to carry the weight by yourself. I believe in your strength and resilience, and I hope little by little, the light comes back into your days.

  46. Hasina says

Hi Liz! I truly appreciate your guidance; it was exceptionally beneficial. You have a remarkable ability to teach. Wishing you a very speedy recovery. A student from Madagascar, admiring your work and supporting you in this fight

  47. Hmm! So our teacher is not feeling great and needs us to cheer her up. Let me start by sharing with you a story.

Eight years ago, I started following your page to prepare for my IELTS exam. I came across a beautiful, confident, kind-looking lady teaching all her followers many tips about IELTS and its different sections. At that time, I was at a high intermediate level in English and I wanted to know how to tackle IELTS questions and get a good score so that my family could immigrate to Canada.

At that time, I had just had my third baby. I was somewhat depressed because I was not able to fulfill my dreams. I started watching almost all your videos, reading your lessons, and practicing. Long story short, I sat my test and got an overall band score of 8, and I was over the moon.

We applied for immigration and we got accepted. We traveled to Canada and started our journey from there. Meanwhile, I applied for a job as an online IELTS assistant lecturer, which I loved the most. I liked how I passed my test and was even able to help others do the same. I wanted to reach out to you one day to show you some of my lessons, but I was hesitant. I wanted to thank you for helping me out. Then, I thought, “Ok fine, she does not even know me.”

A year or so later, I worked for another prestigious platform in my home country and was always praised for how knowledgeable I was. I always referred to your website whenever I came across something that I was not sure about.

You do not know, Liz, how much you helped me. If I could call this anything, I would call it the ripple effect. A professional teacher in the UK helping the whole world from her home without even knowing any of them. Then, her students start to share their knowledge or even teach it based on how their teacher did. None of the teachers or the students have met in real life.

I have watched your videos to sit for my IELTS, and then to teach IELTS. I tried to apply your techniques, your tips, the way you teach, and the way you prepare assignments. You know what, Liz, I am not writing this comment to cheer you up, I am writing it to thank you for being there for me when you didn’t even know me.

I thank you for helping your anonymous student. Because of you, I trained students for IELTS for years. I enjoyed guiding them and seeing them advance — and seeing myself succeed. You brought hope into my life and were always a role model for me.

And, I have a suggestion for you, Liz. Why don’t you start going live on your Facebook page and resume teaching, but this time interactively? Maybe once a month, if you can, and I am sure you will feel empowered the same way you empower your students. You will witness the love your students have for you. It does not have to be long — just short bites — and I can assure you that you’ll start seeing yourself returning to the old you, the same lady who once helped the whole world while staying on her couch.

Give it a try, Liz. Think of how you have changed lives, helped people, inspired them, and much more.

Feeling better?? Not really? Ok, I have a riddle for you.

What shines even when the power is out? A true teacher.
Another one: Why does an IELTS teacher have double vision? Because she is always a C2.
One final one: Why is an IELTS teacher good at music? She has a high band score. 🙂

Thanks to your support, I now live and work here — and I’m very grateful. You’ve helped so many of us immigrants who were learning English and trying to build a new life. Your kindness, patience and dedication made a big difference.

I’m really sorry to hear you’re going through a tough time. I’m thinking of you and sending my best wishes for a smooth and strong recovery. You are truly appreciated.

    With lots of gratitude,
    Camila

One day the sun will shine again,
    Darkness will no longer reign.
Every tear will turn to a smile,
Every pain won’t last a while.

This is just a bend in time,
Stopping here is not the end sign.
Those who gave up before the fight,
Their names faded out of sight.

So keep walking, don’t give in,
Behind every night, the day begins.
Behind every wound, there’s peace to find,
    Behind every loss, victory’s designed.

Don’t ever think that you are weak,
You are the universe you seek.
You are the source of your own light,
You are your own voice, your might.

  52. Dear Liz…tks for being so open and vulnerable. May God bless you in this hard time. You inspired so many people that maybe you have no idea. You are excellent in everything you do and your good will return to you. Wishing you all the best, may the inspiration come back to you soon. We all admire you and your work.

  53. Dear Liz,
I have always had the greatest respect for you since I discovered your website. You are generous, well-organized, knowledgeable and (obviously) a very caring person. I am sorry you are not able to draw on the restorative power of nature to help you at this time. I remember when I had a bad depressive episode focussing intently on a little terrarium in a bottle–just the sight of the tiny plants inside helped me focus on the fact that we are placed on this earth to grow and push up toward the light. I also turn to re-reading my Jane Austen in times of stress, especially Mansfield Park. I came to teaching ESL as a second career in my late 50s and your website was a rich resource, especially for IESLTS instruction. Can I add that a woman’s life is composed of different chapters and I wish for you a future chapter that is fulfilling and restorative. My best wishes.

  54. You Are Not Alone, Liz

    Dear Liz,

I just came across your post and my heart goes out to you. Please know you are deeply loved and valued. Reaching out in times like these takes immense courage and emotional insight—your openness is not only admirable, but also profoundly impactful.

Many of us silently wrestle with emotional and psychological strain, often concealing it beneath busyness or an illusion of strength—due to stigma, fear, or a belief that vulnerability is weakness. I wanted to share this because I’ve walked a similar path through depression, and, unknowingly, you were part of my healing.

When I was preparing for a major life transition, the IELTS was a necessary step. At that time, I felt deeply isolated—no friends, no relationship, no belonging. My mental health spiralled: birthdays passed in silence – as I would intentionally turn off all devices, so no one was able to reach me, Christmases spent alone in bed – in tears, and every new year felt like a repeat of despair.

I sought refuge in faith, and eventually, through a friend who’s now my spouse, I discovered your teaching. Your lessons gave me structure, hope, and a voice of calm when my own was drowning in anxiety. I feared failing the IELTS Academic, but your content guided me through—with prayer and persistence, I scored 8.0 overall.

Liz, I share this not to focus on me, but to reflect back to you the life-saving role you’ve played. Your work, your voice, your presence have meaning beyond measure. Even when it feels dark, please remember: you’ve touched lives—mine included.

We are holding you in love and prayer. Stay the course. You matter.
    We love you, Liz.

    Warmly,
    Am.

  59. Hi Liz,

Just came over here to share a few thoughts that I had on my mind.
I am a high school graduate and last month I gave my IELTS test.

To my absolute surprise I got an overall band 9, and I couldn’t have been happier in those few days that followed. I remember that during my days of preparation for the test, I always envisioned receiving a good score in any of the modules, and sharing my experience and appreciation for your work on this site. This is because someone had shared your website with me, and ever since I ever first saw your presence, for whatever reason, I fully appreciated you not just as a great teacher freely sharing their work, but also as just a person.
And I had a feeling that you would take notice of my message too, knowing how you always reply to almost every comment (one of the many reasons I have such a liking of you)!

If I recall correctly, in my speaking test one of the part 3 questions I had been asked was pretty much the same as in your topic list, and one I practiced in my head imaginatively. So it lit up my mind when I heard it during the exam.
Your writing tips were a wonderful source of support and backdrop during my prep, and it made me understand if I was on the right path.
I felt the same way with the other module pages too and the general posts. Skimming through them all was a great feeling of relief.
I’d say your guidance and posts were one of the only things that made me feel comfortable in the stressful days before and of the exam. As though you were this provider of guidance who assures that things will be alright haha. It’s a rare feeling and I cherished it.

Anyway, in the end I never did share my experience. The thoughts of cheerfulness were replaced by self deprecation, “Who am I anyway, just some guy who got a score. Why would she appreciate what I had to say? I don’t need to say anything.”

But as it turns out, I kind of regret not listening to that call now. I heard of your situation from a Facebook post yesterday, from a page that is in no way related to English or the IELTS exam. But I assume that only out of sheer recognition the owner of the page had for you, they wanted to shed some light on what’s going on you (mind you this is like a news page for students and the like, focusing often on political issues. That itself shows the length to which you have influenced us all in a meaningful way).

The long message I’m trying to convey with all of this, is that we all have those inklings of intuition, that tell us what’s wrong in our lives, and what is right. What we should or shouldn’t do, even if they’re against the odds, or feel like the scariest thing to approach. I can’t speak about your personal life, but I believe that you might have such a part of you too, that is beckoning you to what is causing your distress.
While I kind of believe that in life we have to come to terms with the idea of isolation and loneliness, going back to a state of tranquil self contentment, at the same time we shouldn’t be alone.

Please reach out to your friends and loved ones, and share your concerns and feelings with them. It seriously lifts a weight off of us. And sometimes online support really is incomparable to a face to face chat with someone we know in endearment. Reach out to a therapist and share your issues. They can provide so much insight and relief in ways we never could’ve thought! Provided you put in some effort to find someone who clicks with you. I’ve seen that that’s hard.
You’ve helped *so* many of us, you deserve some of it for your ownself too..

And please don’t burn yourself out. People like you, those who often wish to put someone else’s concern over their own needs, this I infer from the sheer amount of support you dedicate to all of us learners, often end up feeling empty and burned out.
And that’s okay and understandable. We shouldn’t work all the time, we need breaks, and so do you. Feel free to take short breaks whenever you feel these things, but it’s also important not to let that break allow us to wallow in the harmful rumination.

You can’t help others and do what you love unless you balance out your needs and priorities first too.
Finally, I think you are just a good person. I don’t have any concrete reason for saying this, I haven’t had any interactions with you personally, but something about the way you conduct everything I’ve seen, tells me you’re a person on whom we all can rely on (at least in thought) for raw human compassion, and care.
That is why I wish the best for you Liz, I really do.

I’m sad that most of us can’t really do much besides these words of encouragement, but I hope that they will penetrate your heart. While the dark thoughts are powerful, if so many people are suggesting something totally opposite, then at least a semblance of these are true, and the light, positive, loving thoughts are just as powerful, if not more.

“I realized, through it all, that… In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.” SOrry I love Camus lol.

I have a friend of mine who says, “You can’t be [attractive] unless you suffer.” Yes I replaced it for a milder word haha. But it’s kind of true, and I hope that the challenges that trouble you now, will one day become the strength of your inspiration. And in my own perception, it already has made you stronger and more whole.

I wish the best for you Liz, please take care of yourself! We all want that for you. Give to yourself what you’ve given to many of us. This message is already insanely long and I realize you have like 200+ replies already so aaaaaaaaaaI’ll stop.

    My best thoughts to you.
    🙂

    Hi Liz,

In 2016, I decided to pursue my lifelong dream of studying overseas. I got a conditional offer from a University in Australia. The condition was all 7s in IELTS. I struggled to get a 7 in writing, so after several attempts, I took PTE as a substitution to meet the condition.
Upon completing my master’s degree in Australia in 2018, I landed a full-time job. At the same time, I moved on to my journey of permanent residency to stay in Australia.
My professional only accepts IELTS as the English test for skill assessment. I struggled to secure a 7. I came across your website and downloaded the E-Books. The IETLS topics and ideas helped me a lot. Eventually, I nailed the IELTS test at the end of 2019.

I am a mental health clinician now. You are a significant part of my journey to pursue my dream. I am leading the lifestyle I wanted, surrounded by lovely and kind people in Australia, and working for older adults with mental health concerns, which fulfills my own values. I can’t tell you how important you are in the journey of many people’s lives, like mine.

You are brave to voice your situation and seek help.

    Take care.

  68. Dear Liz,
At times, we all wander in darkness. We feel like we have lost our way, and we may get confused about what we are trying to achieve. Though sometimes the good deeds we do may go unnoticed, especially to our eyes, their only aim is to see what lies beyond. In your work, you have been a light for many of us during such times. I truly hope you read all these heartfelt comments and realize what you have done — how you have lit the pathway for those who struggle with difficulties. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet you in real life, but the impact you have left on all of us will surely come back to you in hidden ways .

  69. Hi Liz,

Good day! I think things are not so bad that you are reaching out now, you know you are not at you best. It happens to everybody.

Since you are not able to go out doors, my suggestion is that you can take some Tik Tok videso for fun, like stitch the same video with a dog figuer or cat just for fun. The whole point is about to have more connections with people.

or when you are able to be outdoors, you can make something you are interested in, for me it would be talking to different people for any topics they are interested.
So you are connected to people more and also may have your own space.

Life is just a journey with no guidelines, please live it freely, maybe you are like me not good at live it freely, keep failing, keep trying, one day you will notice that, all people are just like us, just a bounch of beginners trying their best.

Anyway, I would thank you for your efforts and good work, I’m just preparing IELIS test again, at the beginning, but what you do helps me, and I would also want to share my methord when I have those bad days.

Hope you are all well in a short time.
    Have a great day!

after my masters in Europe, I joined US university as a tutor. I went through training and bootcamp sessions, My first teaching seminar was set to Wednesday, first in the morning. I came 30 minutes early; checked the room, PCs, projector and prepared my powerpoint. no one showed up by 9:10. I started to humiliated and disrespected. I texted in our faculty’s group chat. Dean asked to wait another 5-10 minutes. But another faculty member had questioned whether I had a seminar that day. I double checked the calendar – the date was Tuesday. and due to calendar difference (first day of the week – Sunday vs Monday), I wrongly came bit early .

during preparation to my masters degree, I was going through your materials. To improve my English. Thank you !

Thanks to you for being that person that brought hopefullness in times of hopelessness for me. I am sure your work has done this magic for many like me. In times like these where human brings pain on other and call it there 3000 year old God given right, you have been a source of happiness, i wish you best of luck for every thing.

  87. Mushfiqur says

    Hello Liz,
I just wanted let you know how brave and strong you are for reaching out. I struggle with depression and anxiety, and the worst thing about it is the fact that I routinely self-isolate from everything and everyone. It’s almost subconscious, I don’t know why I do it even though I know J should be reaching out to people. Perhaps it’s because of the past experiences, too many people have been “unhelpful” to me when I decided to open up.

But you have the privilege of being a famous person haha. well, not that famous, but still famous enough that a guy like me came here to listen to your story after hearing about it cause I once took a few lessons from you. You are known by thousands. And that means even if there are a lot of “unhelpful” people, there would still definitely be individuals who are really willing to help without judgement.

Take me for one. I am not a psychologist but I do like to call myself an expert of pain and suffering haha. I cannot offer you solutions, in my experience, some situations simply have none. However, I can provide you a set of ears eager to listen to your story, and my utmost honest responses, which people have said are kind and helpful.

I don’t know if you’ll seriously consider this, I hope you dont need to and get better before that. But if you do, know that we are here.

Oh and it’s not because you’re Liz from IELTS Liz, it’s because you’re a human being and I am one too. Please do not say “You should” be going back to making free lessons, your worth is not defined by the IELTS Lessons.
Wanna hear something? I only took a few lessons from you cause I found that your lessons are just not for me. So you weren’t a great help actually.
Yet I’m here. Why? Well, simply cause I knew you as a human being and I came rushing to help you the best I can.

IELTS Liz is a part of you, but you’re so much more than that. You deserve love and empathy with, or especially without, your achievements. Everyone does.

Hope you start feeling better soon. No hurry though, I found sometimes taking time and letting the sorrow flow helps. Just keep peddling and know we’re here for the extra push.
    Good luck.

I couldn’t have done it without you and I pray to my god that you heal as soon as possible and come back to us with your smile and your teaching like a piece of cake!

  93. Bahar says

    Hi Miss Liz,

Every part of life is beautiful—even the sour ones.
I won’t compare my story to yours. Instead, I want to share how I slayed my suicidal demon.
It first appeared out of nowhere on August 14, 2016, at 10 PM. I was a teenager, and the next day, my 12th-grade results were due, but with the help of a relative, I came to know my result that night. When I found out my GPA was terrible, I was devastated. In an instant, my whole world collapsed. I had been preparing for engineering school, and that dream shattered in seconds. Dark thoughts consumed me—one after another. Yet somehow, I survived that first month. I’ll never know how.
I switched gears and prepared for art school, but I didn’t get in. I survived that rejection, too. Maybe because, deep down, I knew I hadn’t prepared well enough or simply wasn’t cut out for a public institution. Surprisingly, none of my friends got offers either. So there we were—a group of depressed teenagers, playing football and cricket, battling our inner demons together. And we all made it through.

    But the war wasn’t over.

In university, the demon returned. I enrolled in a private uni and made friends, yet I never felt like I belonged. I craved attention, and the moment I realized I wasn’t a priority to them, I wanted to end everything. (Now, I laugh at how silly that seems.)

Then, I found my refuge: a wide, beautiful road near my house. I started walking there every day—alone, and sometimes one of my friends would come along who was also struggling. I sorted through my thoughts, argued with myself, and finally reached a realization:

“I came into this world alone, and I’ll leave alone. I’m not someone who’ll be remembered five years after my death. So why struggle for things I think I need to achieve or possess?”

From that moment, the demon lost its grip. I discovered my true purpose—worshipping my Creator, Allah. Now, whenever those dark thoughts creep in, I seek His help, and it keeps me grounded.

I know some might dismiss this as a “silly teenage phase,” but it was my battle. And if you’re fighting your own demons, I hope you find your way through, just as I did.

    Hi
While I was struggling with the IELts exam 8 years ago you were the best teacher online with excellent educational materials. But unfortunately due to a payment system issue ı couldn’t reach your lessons. When I reached out you , you helped me without hesitation. At that time I could feel your energy and generosity even though we were just 2 strangers sitting in front of a screen miles away from each other
Now I ask you to feel this energy from my heart to you please Stay strong, and know that you are cherished and supported

  98. NaveenG says

    Dear Teacher,

I’m a huge fan of your work and just wanted to remind you that the challenges you’re facing now are not permanent, they’re temporary and will pass with time. Life can be unpredictable, but you’re stronger than you know.

Three years ago, I went through my own struggles: I lost my voice, faced paralysis in parts of my body, and felt utterly hopeless. But I held onto hope, started dancing, and told myself every day, “This will pass.” Slowly, I regained my health, and now I’m a professional dancer! . Life is full of surprises, but staying positive and prioritizing self-care is the key.

You’re a born warrior. Don’t isolate yourself and we’re human, and connection is our lifeline. Take care, keep faith, and know that brighter days are ahead. Everything will be okay.

  99. Ahmed Alghamdi says

    Hi Liz,

This is just a few words of Encouragement!

You have already made a real difference in the lives of many students, and I have no doubt that you will continue to do so. Life naturally comes with its share of obstacles and while they can feel overwhelming at times, they are only one side of the journey. There is also so much beauty, opportunity and growth waiting to be seen and embraced.

It’s important to gently to guide our attention toward what strengthens us. We all go through moments where we feel lost or question our impact, but those thoughts are just temporary visitors, not the full story. In times like these, remind yourself of your best qualities and the good you have done. let those reminders reignite your spark.

Strengthen your inner voice and let it speak with positivity, resilience, and hope. Even in challenging moments, there is always something to be grateful for and something to look forward to.

Forgive me my a bit long message, I just felt the urge to reach out with words that I hope lift you up.
Wishing you peace and strength always,

    Ahmed Alghamdi

I believe we all saw the same person I did, a lovely, kind, encouraging, professional guide. Thank you so much. I wish we could do more for you than just write these messages.

  103. Love from Pakistan,

    Hi Liz,

I just read your post, and I want to say thank you for sharing something so personal. That takes a lot of courage, and it moved me.

You’ve helped so many people with your lessons and your words—I’m one of them. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Life can get incredibly heavy sometimes, especially when you’re carrying everything on your own.

I may not know exactly what you’re going through, but please know that you’re not alone. Even though we’re all scattered in different places, there are people like me who genuinely care and want to see you get through this.

You asked for a reminder of the things worth fighting for—here’s one: the impact you’ve already had. The knowledge, support, and kindness you’ve given others have made a difference. That alone is something powerful.

And just in case you need a smile—imagine someone out there who’s learning because of you, who’s growing in confidence because of your efforts. That’s a beautiful thing.

Please take as much time as you need. Be gentle with yourself. We’ll be here whenever you’re ready to return.

Wishing you strength and calm in the days ahead.

    All the best,
    Jawad

I saw your post, and I just want to say this – you have helped more people than you probably realize. I’m one of them. You didn’t just help me pass the IELTS exam. You’ve been a part of so many people’s journeys, not just academically but emotionally. That kind of impact matters. It lasts.

I still remember those all-nighters, when I was hunched over my desk watching your videos. You were explaining something complex to me and I was struggling to grasp it, but even in that moment, what stood out to me wasn’t just the content. It was your patience. Your grace. The calm, steady presence you brought into it. Maybe you didn’t know it, but it felt like you were walking alongside us.

You gave us light. So now, let this be a time where you let others carry a little of it for you. You’ve earned that. I hope some of that impact reflects back on you and reminds you that what you built matters. You matter.

“Fighters fall. But fighters rise. Every time.”

Allah created you very especial beyond usual social media celebrities, we all wished to have such contribution in life. I hope you find some time to speak to GOD and say thanks to Him for granting this gift. I see we are indeed alone we came to world alone we leave world alone our only linkage survives with Allah Almighty. So you are never alone just find your real link. Beside this all of us are available for you so dont let yourself feel alone.
Another thing is common to all (rich poor failed) of us in life “Life is hard “. But please dont really bother it just distract things that bother you. e.g. I like doing physical sports and than like to struggle mastering it. Its huge distraction to hard things. try this I hope it will work :).

    Hi Liz,

When I wanted to move to a developed country with my famy 7 years ago, I started getting prepared for IELTS. I enrolled to a class while working in middle east, but soon I understood what I was learning from there was not enough for me to get the desired score. So I started looking in to other resources available online and soon came across your videos on YouTube. That was the turning point for me. I’ve learned so many things from your videos and from your website and then it helped my partner and lots of other friends who I suggested your website for resources. Now we are settled in New Zealand 🇳🇿 and you played a major part in our success. Thank you for that. And I’m sure you’ve done the same or lot more for thousands or millions of people around the world. Think of the lives you change when you are down and under and keep doing what you’re doing. I’d also like to share something with you — perhaps you’ve come across it before, but I find it’s always refreshing to be reminded of how meaningful and valuable life can be when we truly embrace its depth:

    > “Whatever happens, stay alive. Don’t die before you’re dead. Don’t lose yourself, don’t lose hope, don’t lose direction.
Stay alive, with yourself, with every cell of your body, with every fiber of your skin.
Stay alive, learn, study, think, read, build, invent, create, speak, write, dream, design.
Stay alive, stay alive inside you, stay alive also outside, fill yourself with colors of the world, fill yourself with peace, fill yourself with hope.”

    Hi dear!

I live in Jordan, and my family live in Gaza. Until now, I lost 14 members of my family, some of them are hard to recognise because of their torn features, It’s been nearly two years now for my struggle, yes life is not fair at all.
But trust me when I tell you this: before the war, and during it, my passion towards getting a high score in the IELTS exam never been changed, and whenever I visit youtube to gain knowledge, your videos are the first ones for me to watch, I have a notebook of all of your notes.
I am grateful for you, please be strong. Be kinder to yourself, you are worth it. You deserve to live healthy and happy. Don’t lose hope. I love you Liz!

    Hi Liz,
I think is very brave to reach out when you need help, and I hope you start feeling better soon, life is made of seasons, great times are coming.

I would like to let you know how grateful I am to you and how much I appreciate you and the work you do.

I am from Argentina, and ten years ago I decided to follow my dream to travel and work overseas, Australia provided an affordable Work and holiday Visa, but as an Argentinian I needed to score a relatively high IELTS exam, so here is where your work comes to play, and how much it helped me, honestly I couldn’t have done it without you, without a clear guide of how the exam was gonna be and real practical examples.

I succeeded, and my life change in that trip, I grew immensely, learnt English while living a year in Australia, made friends, saved money, and for the first time, took control over my decisions.

And be sure that all of this was also possible thanks to you, and your amazing work, helping me tackle the most difficult part of getting that visa.

    Sending love to you.
    Big hug.

You’ve given so much of yourself your time, your energy, and your knowledge asking for nothing in return but hoping to make someone’s life a little easier. That’s not just generous it’s rare. You’ve helped thousands like me chase dreams and conquer fears, and I want to remind you now of something important Once upon a time, a lantern sat on a windowsill, always lit. It burned to guide lost travelers, strangers, and wanderers through the night. People never knew the lantern’s name, but they remembered the warmth and the light. And one day, when the flame grew weak, those very people came back, one by one, each carrying a spark of their own to keep it burning. Liz, you are that lantern. there are still beautiful things worth fighting for. A quiet morning cup of tea. The sound of rain on a roof. A message from a stranger who says, “You changed my life.” And even on days when the world feels too heavy, please know that your fire has already lit so many. Take the time you need. But don’t ever forget you’re loved. You’re valued. And you’re not alone. We’ll be right here when you’re ready to rise again. All the strength and warmth in the world,

    By
One of many lives you’ve quietly uplifted

I’ve been thinking of you a lot lately, and I wanted to take a moment to write you a few words from the heart.

I know things have been really tough for you recently, and I can only imagine how hard some days must feel. But in the middle of all this, I hope you know how deeply appreciated and loved you are—not just by me, but by so many people whose lives you’ve touched.

You have always been someone who gives so freely of yourself. Whether it was offering a helping hand, listening with kindness, or simply being present when someone needed support, you’ve made a difference in ways you probably don’t even realize. The goodness you’ve put into the world hasn’t gone unnoticed—it lives on in the people you’ve helped, and in the hearts of those who care about you.

You are not alone in this. You have friends who care, who want to be here for you, and who believe in your strength. Even on the hardest days, please try to remember how strong and resilient you truly are. It’s okay to have moments of doubt and weariness—no one expects you to carry everything alone.

Take things one step at a time. Be gentle with yourself. And know that, even now, you continue to inspire by the courage you show simply by getting through each day.

I’m here for you, whenever you need to talk or just have someone listen. You’re not walking this path alone.

I really admire what you do, and you were one of a kind online mentors I had when I prepared to live aboard. Hey Liz,
I hope you’re doing well. Please take care—we are all with you. You are stronger than you can imagine, and I’m wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery. I’m keeping you in my thoughts.

Reading your words—“I’m struggling and reaching out to you for kindness and inspiration as I battle a tough time. Sometimes strong people need support”—really struck a chord with me. It reminded me how even the strongest among us need a shoulder sometimes, and that vulnerability doesn’t make us weak—it makes us human.

Your post brought me back to the person who has been my greatest source of perspective and inspiration: my dad’s sister. She is mentally challenged and suffers from severe epilepsy. She must be in her late 50s now. As a child, she was just like anyone else, but everything changed when seizures began around the age of six.

Over the years, she has experienced multiple fractures and unimaginable pain—but she can’t even express that she’s hurting. Often, I’m the only one who can sense her pain through a simple touch. That silent connection has taught me more about life than words ever could.

Every time I see her, I realize how blessed I am. I can speak, express, be understood. I’m reminded to stop complaining, to be grateful, and to find joy in the simple ability to communicate.

The recent incident involving the Indian aircraft was another powerful reminder of how fragile life is. It taught us not to take anything for granted—to be happy, to be humble, to spread love. We are so fortunate just to be alive.

Everyone has problems, but when I compare mine to what others endure, I see that many of my “problems” aren’t really problems at all. Life isn’t about having it all figured out; it’s about finding strength in the storm and remembering we don’t have to face it alone.

So Liz, thank you for being brave enough to share your struggles. You are not alone. We’re here, cheering you on—just as you’ve probably done for others more times than you know.

  218. Sidra Arif says

Liz, I want to share a bit of my journey through hopelessness and darkness. For the past five years, I’ve been stuck, financially, emotionally, and physically. I couldn’t enroll in a PhD program, I’ve been facing health challenges, and I’ve been confined to home. For someone like me, who dreams of living life to the fullest, it’s been incredibly painful.

Even now, I often feel like I can’t do it… but still, every day, I try again. Deep down, I believe that one day I’ll move abroad, live freely, eat whatever I want, and fulfill all the little dreams I’ve carried for so long. And when I finally reach that point, I’ll reach out to you again, just to send my love and gratitude.

Also, learning English has been a dream of mine since childhood. But growing up in an environment where English wasn’t common, I never had the chance to truly master it. Now, through IELTS, I’m trying again. I’ve taken detailed notes from your lessons, and every time I learn from you, it feels like you’re an angel sent to guide me. Love you again.

  219. Hi Liz,
You are doing a great job by helping people through your free lessons, even during your tough times. Get well soon. May Allah grant you a speedy recovery and restore your health and spirit, so you can return to your students with many more free lessons. I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart. Love you a lot, dear Liz.

    Hi Liz ,

Really sorry to hear about your experience right now but I would like you to stay motivated and encouraged because you are the one who helped many people like me when we were struggling with our IELTS exam but trust me and I’m not exaggerating it at all, you and your videos were the only thing I had access to that time and with no cost added to it.

Seriously I have no words for your help and kindness in my tough times, you are not only a great teacher but an amazing human being and during this difficult times I believe that Lord Jesus is the one who is always there for you in your darkest times, your loneliness and when nobody else could see your tears. I believe that you will come out of this situation with more blessings than ever..

  222. Shadeen says

    Hey Liz,
times are very hard for you right now and I am sorry to hear you’re not doing well. I would like to tell you about this one thought which always comes to my head when I am going through something hard. “Breathe and it too shall pass.” The beauty of time is it passes, and with it all things, good or bad. So, this too shall pass. Sometimes, amidst the struggle it becomes hard to envision the bright ending and it feels like only darkness is surrounding us, at that time, reminding yourself that time is ever going and so is life may help. I appreciate for reaching out, please remember that tou always have us. Focus on all the goodness – the fans that you made, all the joy you have brought to people like me because of our glorious IELTS scores which may have just changed our lives. You can see and feel – unlike many others who cannot. I am a medical student and whenever I feel down, I see those in pain and remind myself that I am still capable of bringing a change in the world, of doing something. As long you can do that too, then our lives are better than so many others. This is not to bring you down (and I am bad at putting my thoughts into words) – all I want to say to you is that, remind yourself of what you have than what you don’t and you will find there is still so much happiness to look forward to.

  223. Hi Liz,

I am so sorry to hear this. We all are in this together, life gives us moments when we need to redefine our paths. To me you’re one of the best teachers. You lessons helped me in my test. You’re the best believe you can . Hoping for a healthy recovery for you.

    Dear Liz,

I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but I just wanted to say thank you truly, thank you.

Years ago, I found your videos and blog while feeling completely overwhelmed about the IELTS exam. Your calm voice, simple explanations, and kindness made everything feel more manageable. But it wasn’t just what you taught it was how you taught. You made me believe I could do it. And I did.

But then one day, I noticed you’d gone quiet. And later, when I learned you’d been facing serious health challenges, my heart ached not because you owed us anything, but because I realised just how much strength it must’ve taken for you to keep showing up at all.

You didn’t disappear. You just moved differently more gently, more quietly. And even in your stillness, you were still teaching us something how to rest, how to protect our energy, how to keep going without burning out.

I don’t think people say this enough, but you matter. Not just for the IELTS tips or the exam prep though that helped so many of us but because you reminded us that you can be unwell and still be worthy. You can slow down and still be strong. You can stop striving and still have value.

Thank you for your courage. Thank you for your honesty. And thank you for reminding people like me people who are also trying to keep going while healing that we’re not alone.

    With so much gratitude,
Someone you’ve helped more than you know.

  225. Hi Liz,
I’m so sorry that you are going through all these pain. I can’t say I know what you are feeling, but one thing I’m sure of is that no ailment is fun, it takes a toll on us mentally and physically. you’ve been a blessing to many people all around the world of which I’m one of them. you still have so mich to offer the world, I know that, and God knows that too. when you are down, just remember that thousands, if not millions of people all over the world are praying and wishing you the best of life. many of us are excelling in different parts of the world, all thanks to you. you’ve always told us to persevere when we feel like giving up on IELTS.
You are a fighter, please continue to fight as we keep praying to the almighty God to restore your health.

    Hello Liz.

I’m a fellow IELTS teacher who discovered your site more than a decade ago and who thinks highly enough of it that I have recommended it to countless students since then. We all go through moments where sometimes our ambition, drive and energy slip. What gives me strength (and should for you too) is the knowledge that the work we do literally changes people’s lives for the better, sometimes in small ways and sometimes in incredibly significant ways. We don’t always get to see that, but for sure I know it’s true. I like to say, “Don’t underestimate the power of even the smallest act of kindness.” You have given so generously to so many people it is surely impossible for you to come close to ever realizing how much of an impact you have made and continue to make. I hope remembering that gives you strength. If all else fails, don’t forget to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. One can never go wrong doing that All the best! Take care!

  241. Dear Liz

You are an amazing, inspirational teacher !
Your lessons and resources are insightful, incisive and so well – made and creative.

You are one of very few people who can make learning and teaching IELTS a pleasure not a chore ! !

You made all the difference to me as an English teacher – especially when I became an IELTS teacher.
I was going through hell and you and your resources and your generosity helped me so much.

You have supported and helped so many people – you have given so much to so many.

I think that the right to switch off – is very important to workers – especially teachers. When you are ‘WFH’ – it is even harder…to take time off especially when you are stuck inside
    4 walls..

Do whatever you can to take time off and whatever helps you to relax and feel better.

Eg make a list – things I want to do and can do today, tomorrow…

Eg 2 Take time off – don’t feel guilty !

Eg3 Try to be as kind to yourself as you are to others…

Eg4 Perhaps re-read the Emily Dickinson poem – Hope is the thing with feathers

    Thank you so much.

  253. Hello Liz, I just want to mention from the very beginning that you are an inspiration for me . Your dedication and strength to fight every day motivates me to go ahead. I am going to tell you my story and maybe encourage you a little bit to be strong and stay up for your dreams.
As a child ,I was often struggled with my life as my parents used to have a lots of fights and I was scared that they will fall apart and my family will be destroyed. During their fights , I used to cry very much as I was scared that their aggression would go further and they will eventually injured themselves. When I grew up , I promised myself never again to live in a household where insulting and fighting would belong to my daily routines. When I graduated from university, I decided to move abroad and live in Spain where I started to work as a doctor. After approximately one year, I was very disappointed because my monthly income was not enough to cover all my costs of living and I new I had to change something to alleviate the pressure I felt every day when I woke up. After some week of intensive thoughts, I decided to learn German and apply for a job there. It was a very hard process as I never before come in touch with the German language. It took me like 6 months to start having a conversation in German without fearing that native speakers will make fun of me. Here I am , living in Germany and working as a doctor. It isn’t easy as our medical system has changed a lot in recent years , forcing us to work overtime without being payed for . During this time , I got married to a German guy and we got two kids. When I got pregnant for the first time , I had to give up my job at the hospital because of my children. After my pregnancy, I tried to apply for a job at a local hospital again. Unfortunately, there is no place for me anymore in this hospital as a mother of two children. After hearing that, I was very unhappy but I needed desperately a new job and I accepted to work in a medical center . To be honest, the work here doesn’t fulfill me. Last year , I came up with a new idea and started to learn English to take the IELTS test and move to other continent. It is actually a nightmare coming true as I struggled a lot during school to learn English. I couldn’ become a confident English speaker because my teacher was very high-minded and tried to make students learn words and phrases by heart. Right now, I plan to take the IELTS in 3 weeks from now and I have a lots of doubts whether I can get the band 7 I need or not . I therefore try to motivate myself that I can do it and practice very hard every day, even though my children are not very happy about this. It breaks my heart to see that they are missing me , but I keep telling myself that in three weeks from now it‘s over. I hope my story can bring you the power and motivation you need to fight again and your health condition will soon improve. Best wishes, Kate

    • Waooh Kate!

Their are the ones we need to encourage as well. Truly, as a mother, it’s not easy at all.

  264. .......A silent admirer 😇 says

    Dearest Elizabeth (Liz),

Sending you the healing vibes for your speedy recovery, not only physically but also mentally, and spiritually. May you be surrounded by all the divine love and care.

I’m not a public speaker and writer in real. But I feel connected to you always through your empathetic words. You are a true giver and transforming the world not only in an active, but also in a passive manner. You are among one of the purest souls I have ever witnessed till now.

I’m not mentioning all of these out of any pity or other such aspects, but with my own experience and silent observation of your work, I am adamant to say all these things.

In today’s world where everyone is concerned about making money and looking forward to the opportunities to win some kind of Rat-Race, you are silently giving the world with both hands. For some, it’s merely another random ‘English language learning’ blog, but for you and the ones connected to you through this page, it’s a whole new World wherein we all can learn, and grow together.

I have been following you since years, maybe, more than a decade, and I am even recommending your work to my students. I very rarely recommend someone/something to others, but when I am doing so, I am pretty sure about the one. I’m not saying, I’m someone who’s recommendations matter to the world, but surely to MY WORLD ❤️

I pray to my Kanha Ji and Radha Rani for all the happiness and healing you require to recover. Just like the last times, you are going to bounce back sooner with all the positivity, love and guidance (of course 💟).

Looking forward to hear from you the soonest, Liz.

With all the love & healing vibes,

    A silent admirer 😇

  265. Daria says

    Hi Liz,
The free lessons we all enjoy can wait—your health is more important than anything else. I’m also going through a tough time; this year has been the hardest one for me. But I try to stay focused on what truly matters.

The sun will rise again tomorrow. As long as you’re still breathing, you can change the course of your life—again and again. If someone has disappointed you, remember: we’re all human. Try not to expect too much from others.

Focus on your loved ones, and speak to them about your struggles. If you don’t feel you can trust people, there’s always another way—speak to God. He has never betrayed anyone.

It’s June now. Go for a walk. Admire the trees and the flowers. The trees dry out in winter, but they always know that spring will return. Right now, it may feel like the winter of our lives—but don’t forget, spring always comes.

God remains in control, no matter what. So let go, and let God do His part. Be blessed and keep on fighting🙏🏻💪🏻

  266. Obi Ebuka says

Take as long as you need to recuperate, in that we’ll be here waiting on you to recover fully and resume your classes. You’ve been a source of motivation to us all whom are a undergoing one challenge or another. Be strong.
    We love you.

  267. Keith WF Proborszcz-Maloney says

Thank the stars above that you’re not Palestinian, Ukrainian, Sudanese, …… and you were born where you were.
Take time to sleep, read, be with family and friends. Enjoy the weather whatever it brings and get out out onto the hills. Breathe deeply, forget your phone, look, savour and enjoy.
As was said on the offshore rigs, ‘Life’s a bitch and then you die,’
Embrace and enjoy LIFE. Do what gives you enjoyment BUT do not take on too much.
Get BETTER for [1] yourself, [2] your children, [3] others you know.

Subject: When Life Gives You Kidney Stones… Throw Them Back, Like a Champ

    Dear Elizabeth,

First, let me say something I truly mean:
You are a great fellow human being and a kind soul. The kind of person who brings light even on cloudy days — and I know that because I’ve seen it.

I also know that recently, life hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses for you — more like a bed of pokey pinecones with some unexpected health issues thrown in for fun (and absolutely no consent). You’ve been pushing through, quietly and bravely, and I just want you to know: you’re not alone.

Now, allow me to share something ridiculous, painful, and oddly inspiring from my own medical misadventures — the Legend of the Kidney Stone.

It all began on a deceptively calm morning. Birds were chirping, coffee was brewing, and then — BAM! — it felt like I had been stabbed by an invisible samurai in my lower back. My body folded in half like a deck chair. My confidence evaporated faster than hospital sanitizer.

I thought I was dying. Google confirmed it. WebMD had already written my obituary.
But the doctor? Oh, he was calm. Too calm. He looked me dead in the eye and said,
“Oh, it’s just a kidney stone.”

    Just a kidney stone.
Apparently, this “tiny” stone was the size of a sesame seed, but with the attitude of a wrecking ball.

What followed was a journey of epic pain, dramatic groans, strange yoga poses on the ER floor, and the overwhelming need to make a will (and maybe a Netflix documentary). But here’s the thing — I survived.

And not just that — I laughed, I endured, and I learned something priceless:
The human body may be fragile, but the human spirit is absurdly tough.

So, my dear friend — I know you’re dealing with your own set of trials right now. Health issues are no joke. But neither is your courage. You’ve got the heart of a fighter and the humor of someone who knows that sometimes, life is so unfair it’s actually kind of funny.

Whatever you’re going through — remember this: if I can wrestle a rogue kidney stone and live to email about it, you can face your battles and come out even stronger.

Pain may knock you down, but spirit picks you back up. And I see that strength in you every single day.

Hang in there. You’ve got what it takes.
And if life throws you more “stones,” let’s start a collection — we’ll build a monument to resilience.

With admiration, empathy, and a little laughter,
    Zeeshan

  269. Liz, you are the reason I passed my test, you are the reason I have a Visa atm. I am not good with words but you are so important and what you do positively affects hundreds of lives. Hi Liz.

    Just a thought to share.

Anytime I’m down I always remember these words “a living dog is better than a dead lion”😊 and “to the living there’s hope”😊

These tells me “hey, as long as you’re breathing and alive, it’s a gift that you must cherish and use wisely!”

So life is a gift and all that comes with it. Use it well while you have it! And it’s a choice each one of us has to make DAILY.

You, Liz, made a great choice long ago to help people and be strong, don’t stop now!

  279. Hi, Liz!
No words can tell you how much I admire you!
To begin with, you are really an outstanding teacher!
It was you who helped me understand what IELTS is about and you did it so well that my students never got a score below 7,5. Thank you from me and from them!
Secondly, you are a really charming woman!
You’ve got your style, your smile is so warm, wise, understanding! You are so slim! Your hair is glowing!
But what is more is the YOU, your personality, the way you can open up, inspire and encourage.
Your role in the teaching community is tremendous!
Never underestimate what you’ve done and , I’m sure, will do in future. Teachers need you! Students need you!
Bad things happen. It’s true. And I am one of those whose life changed one day and it is only getting worse. But the darker the nights, the happier the mornings. I appreciate every single moment I get which is free of pain. I try to hold on because I know I am not alone. Together we are still fighting and changing the world! Our mission is not complete. We, educators, are like rays of light, we should shine and help young people find their way out of the darkness.
And you, Liz, shine like a diamond.

If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know. Are you raising money? If so, I am in!

Liz, I used to follow your channel years ago, when I had my mind set on IELTS. It was hands down the best resource out there. Your way of teaching conveys concepts with a clarity that I have not found anywhere else. When you posted about your personal life I was shocked, not only to learn about your struggles but to see the determination with which among those struggles you had been able to work on online lessons that were so perfectly delivered one could never imagine what was going on in your life behind every minute of recording. I was inspired by your determination. I am truly sorry to hear you are struggling again and yet I know life has no shortage of hardship to throw at us as the years go by. I just want you to be reminded of the strength you have in yourself and that allowed you to overcome so many enormous challenges before. I also want to remind you that it is ok to stop and take care of your health, with compassion for yourself, as frustrating as it is. I am glad you reached out and I encourage you to keep reaching out to us online and to people in your life, in your community, to seek help and motivation. Your contribution to people’s lives around the world has been and continues to be exceptional. I am sure a lot of people want to give back to you. What can we do for you? Please write Liz. We are listening.

  283. Hi Liz!
So sorry for that. Keep moving very well and too strong.
You know our body should be taken like a car. We need periodic maintenance of it to finally be sustainable for ever.
You need to rest a lot to come back very strong.
It’s a big pleasure to read you everytime.
    Yours, sincerely
    Damien

Every stranger in your body will leave in Jesus’ name.

God will make you whole and restore your health to you in Jesus’ name.

  287. I was at the fueling station earlier today. While on the queue, the Napep man in Nigeria, this means tri-cycle beside me also on queue to the same pump was on call with his wife.

His phone had rang twice before he eventually picked. His wife mentioned that he didn’t drop any money for the children to eat, and in response, he said reminded her that he already told her he wanted to use the money left with him to buy fuel into his Keke so that he can work and send money. The call was audible as it was on speaker.

The worried wife kept mentioning that the children were already crying. But he kept telling his wife that he would send money immediately he works.

After the call, he was speaking with himself and talking about how people weren’t going out as the normal days. With his eyes fixed at a particular spot of the keke.

I was so bothered for him, his wife, and the hungry children.

When we got to the pump, the attendant could either sell to me or him as we were beside each other due to the position of our fuel tanks.

And he told the pump attendant to sell for me. I immediately told the attendant to sell for him.

“Oya, sell One thousand two hundred own”

While he stretched his hand to give the attendant the money.

Then I said young lady, Pls fill the tank of his keke”

He looked at me like, No, she shouldn’t as he doesn’t have that money to pay.

I told him not to worry and that I would pay.

And he said, since I started driving this keke, I have never bought a full tank.

With tears on his eyes, he went down, and I carried him up.

After I bought mine and as I was driving out of the staton, I didn’t know he was waiting for me just outside the gate.

When I saw him, I stopped he couldn’t stop thanking me.

I simply told him that I overheard the call with his wife wish caught my emotions.

My parents taught me how to be kind to people. My dad would say, a help you render today is coming for you tomorrow.

One thousand two hundred can not feed husband and wife, let alone with the children.

I requested his account details and sent him money. I equally asked him to call his wife, and I spoke with her. When she sent her details, I sent her money to buy some food stuff.

He was literally in tears as I drove off, and I prayed for them that God eased their affairs.

And the one reason why I share this— that if life is kind to you, Pls extend it and be kind to people.

  288. Dear Liz, I am sitting now in my home with my one-year old son, who is eating biscuits. I’m a bit tired after marking my students’ essays, but many of them were very good, so I’m happy. I’m a uni lecturer and I love my job. My husband is about to come back home from gym. This is the life we have now and we can’t ask for more. It took us more than 10 years of hard work and more than 5 EILTS exams. All these years, I’ve been consulting your web site from now and then. Back in a day, when we were students with no extra money for tutors, your resource was the main one used to prepare for our first IELTS. I guess most people are doing IELTS for the same goals as we did: to move from a place where you don’t belong (and often don’t feel safe), to chase your dreams, to build your life as you want it. You’re helping people like us to get there and to get this life. Help like this is invaluable.
I have to confess, I haven’t thought about you as a real person (even though the site has your name and your photo). The amount of information is so great, I always assumed it was managed by a team of people. It’s been great meeting you today through this post. Now, when you have appeared as an individual in my mind, I hope you can also see me – another individual, someone you have helped to get the life of her dreams. Someone who will always be grateful for this. Not to an anonymous team of content creators, but to you personally.
I hope this has made your day a bit better.
    My best wishes
    A.

  289. Dear Liz,
Your IELTS classes not only help IELTS students, but are also a Master Class to us teachers in “How to Teach IELTS”. As a teacher I have learned so much from you.
I hope that your health improves and that you can be uplifted in spirit. You have helped countless people through your work of the years!

There was a time not so long ago when the path ahead felt uncertain. I was dreaming big of studying abroad, of building a new life, of opening doors that had always seemed just out of reach. But there was one mountain I had to climb first: the IELTS exam.

I was nervous. My confidence wavered. I knew what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure how to get there. That’s when you, Liz, came into my life like a quiet miracle.

You didn’t have to help me but you did. Freely. Patiently. Kindly. Your lessons weren’t just about grammar and vocabulary; they were about belief. Every session was a seed of confidence planted in my heart. You corrected my writing with care, taught me to speak with courage, and most of all, you believed in me even on the days I doubted myself.

Thanks to your generosity and strength, I passed the IELTS. That one victory opened so many doors admission into graduate school, new career opportunities, a whole new chapter of life I once only dreamed about.

But here’s the thing, Liz you didn’t just help me pass a test. You gave me wings.

And now, as you face your own mountain, I want you to remember something deeply true the world is brighter because of people like you. You’ve already changed lives, including mine. And you still have so much light to give.

Even now, your strength shines. Even now, your kindness echoes in all the success stories you’ve helped create. And just as you lifted me when I was tired, I want to help lift you.

You are not alone. You are loved, admired, and needed. Your story is not finished; not even close. This chapter may be tough, but it’s only one part of the beautiful book you’re still writing.

Keep believing, Liz. Keep fighting. The same spirit that helped me conquer my fears is the spirit that will carry you through this storm.

And when you rise, and you will; just know that your students, your friends, and the people whose lives you’ve touched will be here, cheering you on every step of the way.

    With all my heart,
    Thank you.
And I believe in you; always.

    I love you ❤️ Liz

    Hi Liz,
You are an amazing teacher. I am so sorry what are you going through. Last September I lost my baby daughter. She was born only for 15 mins. The whole pregnancy journey was very risky and troublesome. But I lost her. My life was in high risk too. Then I lost my maternal Aunt who brought me up in my childhood. Today I lost my maternal Uncle with whom most my childhood memories are attached. And I can’t even go to him for the last time because I am so sick and struggling with my high risk pregnancy again. I don’t even know what is waiting for me. But you know what last February I went to Harvard Conference from the remote part of Bangladesh. I promoted as a assistant professor by this time. And I attained IELTS Exam just after one mother losing my baby daughter. I got 6.5 only. But I never give up. I went to physiologist for months after months. I still struggling. Please pray for me. I am praying for you too. Lots of love for you.

    (please ignore my bad English)
