See their results below:

  1. Saif: L 8.5, R 8.5, W 9 and S 9 = overall band 9.  His personal details have been removed from the certificate. He mentioned in his email:

“You can also mention that I only used your videos as study material for test preparation. I watched around ten of your videos and that was good enough to get an understanding of the test layout.”

  • Below are links to my videos and tips

Student Band Score 9

2. Niharika: L 9, R 9, W 8.5 and S 8.5 = overall band 9

“I already shared my scores on your blog post about the test results (N G CST is the username). Please feel free to share my results/experience with others. Reading others’ experiences helped me tremendously and I think sharing my experience will definitely be useful.  I resat for IELTS exam on 11 February 2017 in Saint Paul, USA.” Her speaking score went from 7.5 to band 8.5 after taking the test again. You can see her scores posted on my Post Results Page

Below are some of the tips for speaking I gave her:

Part 1 – Listen for the grammar in the question. Past tense question = past tense answer. Second conditional question = 2nd conditional answer. This is an English language test – show the accuracy of your language. For example:
Q: Can you swim?
A: Yes, I can but I wish you could do better and had more time to practice.
This demonstrates the right grammatical answer “can you = I can” and also future forms by adding hopes.
You will know the topics in part 1 because the examiner will say “Lets talk about sport” – then you know you will get 3 or 4 questions about sport. Or “moving on to weather” – now the topic has changed to weather. Listen for the topic and give examples of topic vocab.
Part 2
This is a chance for you to control the language you produce. A chance for you to show you deserve a high score by giving examples of great English.
Showcase your skills. You can add any information and change the prompts – but stick to the topic and pay attention to grammar tenses. Because you can add anything, it means you should be speaking for 2 mins. There is no reason to stop – you can say anything!!!!! So, show the examiner you have no problem to speak at length – fluency!!
Part 3
Discussion. This is chance to you to explain your ideas and develop ideas. It is not because you are marked on ideas, it is because you can show higher level language. The examiner doesn’t care what you think – only what your English is like. So, explain in depth and use higher level English.

Greetings mam, I have scored –
    L – 8.5
    R – 9.0
    W – 6.5
    S – 8.0
In IELTS academic, do you think it is a good score for admission into a dental school in US and Canada? Or do you advise me to go for re evaluation or rewrite the exam? Your opinion really matters mam. Thank you

    • Well done with your results 🙂 You would need to check with each Dental school what results they accept. If they don’t accept your writing score and you are very sure you should have got a higher score, you could consider a remark.

It’s not only about my work, however, had it not been for your amazing video lessons, I wouldn’t have had the correct guidance to study well. Thank you so much! ❤

trying to prevent climate change .we should find ways
to live with it. Do you agree or disagree.
please help me.what can i wrote in this?

    • Thanks for sharing 🙂 Climate change can be tackled through raising awareness of individuals to conserve energy and recycle as well as limiting emissions of gases harmful to the environment by reducing the number of cars on the road and controlling industrial waste.

madam first of all thank you for providing a such usefull information and essential videos on free basis. i really like your nature and especially your smile it is so innocent.

i just wanted to ask you if i writing in first task more than 150 and also in 2nd task i write more than 250 words so. i lose band?
    or it’s allowed to write.

    • You MUST write more than 150 words in task 1 and more than 250 words in task 2. Writing less will lower your score.

  11. Farid Ouakrim says

    Hi Liz.
I’ve noticed that a new topic has been given for speaking “Riot ” . As I know ,political topics shouldn’t be given.

    Thanks

    • Not all riots are political. Some relate to using animals for testing products. This is a topic about society and how society expresses itself. If you ask me if I think this is a good topic for IELTS? I would say no. I don’t think it’s appropriate. But I donit control IELTS and the topic isn’t political.

  21. Akshay says

    Hello liz,
I need to improve my IELTS listening and reading score above 7 band bt it doesn’t improve , what should I do ? . . .and other question is: Is it wrong to keep one line blank between two paragraphs in writing section. . . .??

    Thanking u !

  22. If we make one or two pauses during speaking exam, would it affect our band score??

    • It depends on the length. If you actually stopped speaking, then it might affect your fluency score. If you just pauses slightly, it won’t matter much if it was just once or twice.

      • Thank u liz
Examiner asked me whether people change their activities according to weather?? Actually do they?

        • It’s an interesting question. Yes, on the whole people change their activities due to weather. For example, people tend to do indoor activities when it rains and outdoor activities when it’s dry or sunny. I’m sure you can now think of other examples 🙂
