I’m so glad to find this material, quick question…
Do you have more records of city names that you can share with me? if not, Can you please do record some more for me?
I’m training my students on how to catch city names then get their correct spelling by hearing them from English native speakers around the world. I’ve found your records priceless for my class because they’ll help me to upgrade their listening skills before getting them on real conversation with English native speakers over the phone. In exchange, I can share my experience with you in the long run also I want to point out that by doing so, you’ll help me to shape my path as Trainer and I really appreciate that.

  18. Thank you Ms. Liz for your useful lesson. I always get into trouble with I and E because in my native language, there are I and E with the same pronunciation but different characters. But I think in the real test, they spell much faster, which makes it harder

  19. the hardest citynames I’ve ever written. Thank u Liz, 9 out 15

  23. Hi Liz,
I’ve heard that in the listening and reading we can give all answers in capitals. Some say that it’s a good idea to avoid making mistakes(no need to capitalize where needed), but others say that it’s not necessary because answers in lower case are accepted even if the word needs to be capitalized. For example, if the answer is “Green Street”, can we write “green street”?

    • Thank you for your answer!
So, if we don’t write a capital letter at the start of a proper noun, it’s counted as a wrong answer, am I right?

  24. Hey teacher i wanna knw that tommorow is my ielts test lasty i got less band in writing task so plz help me what i will do best for tommrow teat like give me some ideas.

    • I can only recommend that you do the following:

      1. spend time planning your essay before writing – that includes supporting ideas as well as main points
      2. make sure you are following instructions – if it asks you to discuss then you do so – if it asks for your opinion, you only give your opinion and nothing else
      3. make sure you have answered all issues in the essay question in your essay – there might be more than one
      4. use a range of linking devices accurately
      5. have clear paragraphing – each paragraph must have a clear central point
      6. don’t use vocabulary that you are not 100% sure about – you might know the meaning but do you know how and when the word can be used – don’t take chance.
      7. use accurate language – more mistakes means lower band score
      Wishing you all the best

  25. Hi Liz

i’m really stimulated by your lessons. Please check my essay for below topic!

Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged.Others believe that children who are tought to co-opetate rather than compete become more useful adults.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

In today’s scenario it is undeniable fact that competitions which are passed amongst youngsters are vital. Many people strongly believe that a sense of competition during a childhood should be motivated. However, i generally disagree with this situation and strongly believe that working co-operatively is more useful . This essay will be proved with my opinion.
To begin with, rewarding for others point of view, it is widely true that working with loneness has more advantages. For example: students who work with their teachers after classes thay can learn more and more things than in classes. In addition to this, they discover their new capability to do extra activities. Moreover, that types of activities make children isolated with their schoolmates or doing works without encourages of their friends makes them bored.
On the other hand, in our modernized era everything depends on state of the art technologies. There are more circumstances for students who study at schools, collages even universities then previous century.Impact on the ground-breaking devices like smartphones, laptops influence competitiveness of children. For instance: new education system require many demandings from stidents. After that key, they enter the internet and download many useful digital books which are obtained by their teacher.Subsequently, their classmates debate on that books .
By way of conclusion there are many advantages of a sense of competition. However,i strongly believe that putting in together influences student’s outlook.

    Sincerly,
    Mohan Angbo

  29. Hi Liz,
    I have two doubts.
    1. Its about an instruction and an answer in a listening test. The instruction says that we should not “Write more than two words And/OR a Number” and the answer is ” 7 working days”. Is this correct because the answer contains ” A number & two words” which is three in total ?

    2. Which one is correct to write (a) 10 minute (b) 10 minutes or (c) 10 minutes’

Kindly help me clear my above doubts. I’m preparing for IELTS and have very few days to go.

    Waiting for your answer.

    Thanks in advance,
    Best Wishes,
    Raj

  30. Hi Liz,

I watched your videos of Ielts Listening about names of places and persons . I learned so much by them. I also need your help(questions in listening,NO MORE THAN 2 or 3 WORDS. ) regarding: filling the gaps with words like a , the ,s (singular or plural ).Some times it is confusing, whether to use or not.
    Thanks.

    • If you are completing a sentence, you must make sure your completed sentence is grammatically correct. If you are only filling notes or forms, then grammar is not important in the answer.
      Liz
