Has your Test been Suspended due to Coronavirus?

Hi guys,

Has your test been suspended? When will tests start again? Here in the UK, more and more steps are being taken to protect the public from the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Some European countries are already in lockdown. This will have an impact on some IELTS tests. Some countries around the world have already seen IELTS tests suspended. This page was last updated March 20th.

Has my IELTS Test been Suspended?

Click on the following link to learn which places have IELTS Tests Suspended. It is a link to an Official IELTS list of test dates around the world showing which ones have been suspended. Make sure you check that link regularly because the situation is changing daily: CLICK HERE: IELTS OFFICIAL UPDATES ON SUSPENDED TESTS.

When will IELTS Tests start again in My Country?

On the official link above, it will show not only which countries and cities have tests cancelled but also when IELTS tests are likely to start again in those areas. So, click on the link above to check.

HOWEVER, please note that due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 situation, no dates are set in stone (this means no dates are 100% guaranteed). The date the tests are set to continue are an estimate and will depend on what happens with the virus in your area. This is not the fault of IELTS. This means, as I stated before, you need to keep checking that page for updates. Do not be disheartened. Aim to prepare for the new date given, but also be ready for further delays. These are uncertain times and we must all adapt from day to day with as much positivity as possible. See the links to free lessons below to keep positive and keep learning.

Due to COVID 19 pandemic, IELTS exams are getting delayed and this has cost a lot to the candidates who have already applied or going to apply for the Visa Applications. Candidates are ready for the test but IDP / BC are not in the position to conduct Exams.

In this regard, all the valid IELTS score (have not completed 2 years) shall be given 3-4 months of extension by IDP/BC.

    Hi Liz
My name is Jaspreet and I am from Ludhiana. I had an ielts exam on 21 st march which was cancelled due to lockdown of covid-19 .I got a postponed date of 4th April and it was again cancelled now I have an exam tomorrow 18th april.I just want to confirm that if it is going to take place or not.

    Thank you

    • On the page above, there is a link which you can click to see which tests have been suspended. You can also call your test centre for confirmation and message them as well. No dates are guaranteed these days because of Coronavirus so it is your task to keep checking.
      Lots of luck!!!

God bless you with all his love and blessings

    • Thank you for your message. That’s really sweet. You are right – we don’t know how this Coronavirus situation will play out. It might get worse or it might not. Keeping positive and continuing to build a brighter future is the only way forward. I’m glad my site is helping you and your husband 🙂 Stay safe!!

    Hi Liz,

My result was cleared on December 2019 and now due to COVID19 immigration department has put onhold all the cases. So in this case duration of validity will get extend or it will remain same.

    Hello mam,
I have booked my ielts exam on 16th april 2020, through IDP..Will my exam gets postponed or it will be conducted as per the schedule?.. Pls give me a clarity on this issue so that i can have my preparation according to it…
    Thankyou

    • WE are living in remarkable times with humanity under attack by a virus. How could any person predict dates in such a circumstance? Even the best scientists in the world can’t predict. Prepare for your test as normal, but be ready for delays.

  6. Hello sir
I have done my speaking test on 19th march and exam has cancelled . Now idp select 25 April for those students who applied 21 th march . Now my question is that will my speaking conduct again or not

    • I’m actually surprised at your question. We are living at a time of the most sudden and unexpected viral attack on humanity, and you want a guarantee that your test will be conducted on April 25th. Let me ask you a question instead. Do you think any human being in the world can accurately predict when this global crisis will be over? I am sure you know that no date can be guaranteed by any company or organisation, but they are all doing their best and will continue to make decisions based on medical advice. You should check the Official IELTS Coronavirus Page (link given on page above) regularly for updates.

  7. Sevara says

    Hi Liz
thanks a lot for your endless and very useful advices on test preparation
My name is Sevara from Uzbekistan
I am very concerned about my test because many say that speaking questions will be updated on May.As you know many countries are now on quarantine and my test day has been suspended till May so is that possible to have new speaking questions although i have already registered for 18 Th. of April .

    • No one has a list of all the topics for any period. IELTS do not release that list. There are current report topics and you can still prepare those. Those topics will be circulating in May as well as new topics. You can also prepare common topics which are repeated again and again each year. That is the most anyone can do to prepare for a test that is not predictable and for which the topics have not been released.

  8. Janith says

    Hi Liz !!!

I am from Sri Lanka. According to IELTS ORG, IELTS exams are suspended until 4 April 2020. I registered for the IELTS exam on 4 April 2020. I have doubt about “UNTIL” word.

Is there any possibility to keep exam on 4 April 2020?

    Thanks….Stay Safe…

    • Any date given is an estimate anyway. No one knows at this time how long the situation with the Coronavirus will last. It is possible the tests might be suspended long after April 4th. The word “until” is mostly inclusive which means it includes April 4th. But you need to confirm that with the test centre. Be prepared for all dates to change – check regularly for updates. Contact IELTS on FB if necessary.

    Hi Liz

Do you have like 2 samples i can have a look at for writing task 2? Thanks.

  10. Amy m says

    Hi Liz

I did my ielts sept 2018. I was due to graduate medicine in April 2020 but because of the covid 19 situation my exams have been delayed and we do not know for now when it will be. I don’t want to have to sit them again. Will the GMC take this into consideration and prolong the validity of the ielts due to these circumstances.

    Thank you

    • This is a good question. Generally, the test is valid for two years because after more than two years has passed, your level of English will have changed and your score would not be representative. I suggest you contact the GMC now while your test is valid and make sure their response is confirmed in writing. Good luck!

  11. Amanda says

    Hi Liz,

I had to sit for the exam (GT) thrice to get the required results to apply for the Canadian PR. Although my results are available on the Test Taker Portal, as the government has imposed a curfew, delivery of the Test Report Form has been delayed. Without the Test Report Form number I cannot complete my Express Entry profile and I’m worried about missing the opportunity of receiving an invitation to apply if they have a draw next week. Is there any other way that I could obtain this number?

    • Contact the officials involved in your Canadian PR and ask them for a delay in the deadline. Email them officially and also call them. Also contact IELTS Official on FB and ask them how you can access this number. I sent them a message and got a reply within one day.

  12. Darsh says

Hi, I am from Sri Lanka and I did my IELTS exam on 03rd January 2020. I earned the required score (7) and I was planning to apply for higher studies these days. But according to the bad situation now most of the countries in the EU have been locked down. Therefore the application processes will definitely be postponed, I am afraid if I ‘ll not be able to apply for the next intake, I ll ve to take IELTS again for next year’s application process or will there be excuses for us due to this Covid 19?. I think it is valid only for two years and usually, the EU scholarships are available only one time per year, not like in the USA.

    • At present, policies have not been reshaped in many universities and organisations. At some point, they will make decisions about what will happen in the long term. Meanwhile, you can email universities directly about your concerns. At least, it will highlight the issue for them and then they can deal with and give you a response.

    Hello everyone,

My IELTS General exam was on the 7th of March in the USA. I was supposed to get my results on the 20th. I don’t see them posted online. Has the COVID situation impacted others in receiving their results? My test center in Boston are not responsive and I have no clue as to when they will be uploaded (if there truly is a delay).

Any updates or if others have had similar experiences, please share.

    Thanks

  15. Uma Matlani says

    Hello ma’am,

I’m from India, and my IELTS test was scheduled for 22nd March 2020(Sunday). Unfortunately, a curfew has been declared on the said day that has led to cancellation of all the tests tomorrow. On contacting the IDP IELTS officials via email, I was asked to visit a link in previous emails and reschedule the test. The problem lies herewith, I am unable to find any link or other resource to change the dates of my test. I read a few queries in this post and since you advised to get in touch with the staff at IELTS via facebook, I did the same and am currently waiting for a response. I also emailed the officials again asking for help with my problem. I would be really grateful to you if you could provide me with any insights into the process of rescheduling.
    Thank you

    • Check all previous emails from IDP. Ask anyone else you know how has received emails from IDP to forward the link to you. Otherwise, you will need to wait until they start work again on Monday. Hopefully, you’ll get a reply soon from the official FB page of IDP.

  16. Hirranya says

    Hi,
I’m from Delhi, India and my IELTS Exam which was scheduled for tomorrow (21st March,2020) has now been postponed because of COVID-19. The mail states that we can transfer our dates to an alternate date and they’ll try to accommodate us for our chosen date. What happens if I don’t choose a date? Will my exam get cancelled or will my exam happen on the next available date? I want to give my exam in April if possible and the only two available dates mentioned in this particular email are 18th April and 30th April but the British Council website states that there is an exam scheduled on 4th April and 11th April. Now, I’m more comfortable with either 4th or 11th April but these dates are not mentioned in the mail I received. What should I do?

    Thank you !

    • Contact your test centre and ask them directly what your options are. If you can’t get through, go to IELTS Official Facebook page and send them a message. Presumably if you don’t choose a date, you will get a refund and then you’ll be able to choose your own date again later on – but check to confirm this.

      • Dolly says

        Hello Liz,
I’m in the same situation with the commenter above. My LRW test scheduled for today has been suspended till further notice. Got the cancellation mail yesterday at 9.52pm! The mail said I could transfer or ask for a refund. I didn’t quite understand what transfer meant until I came here and saw that you can send them a mail choosing a preferred date(I hope that is what that meant). I was hoping the test would not be ultimately suspended, but that they would limit the number of test takers that can take it at one sitting. However, my question is does the comments above mean that I request to take my test at a specific date. I think that’s better than anxiously waiting for when it will be available again. I don’t exactly know what step to take now. Please guide me Liz. Thanks.

        • The next step is what suits you. You can ask for a refund and then book your test later on when we know more about what will happen. Or you can reschedule now. Whatever date you choose, you must be aware that it might be suspended too. No one can predict how long normal operations will be suspended and when they might actually resume.
However, I didn’t see the email they sent you. Therefore, I can’t say exactly what is meant by “transfer”, unless there are other test centres in your country that are still open and have availability. Contact your test centre or contact IELTS Official for more details. When you ask them about this, make sure you mention the test date, the test centre and the country you are referring to.

Liz ,is there any chance that cue cards till April 2020 won’t change for may too due to Corona virus pendamic

    • It’s a good question and one we must wait and see to find out. Meanwhile, continue to prepare both common and recent topics.

  18. Rhythm says

    Hey Liz!
My speaking test took place on 19th March, however my LRW scheduled for 21st March is postponed due to corona-virus. I’ve been told to choose a date during April and May.
Do you think I will be asked to re-appear for IELTS speaking exam later ? Or the one I’ve given will be valid? I registered on 19th for Speaking, however my candidate number wasn’t written on the sticker they applied to my passport. Only signatures of the examiner and other verified staff are present.

I’ve emailed BC as well, but I’m awaiting their response.

    • You will have to ask BC or IELTS Official directly about this. Go to their FB pages online and send them a message – also email. I think you’ll get a quicker response from them on FB than by emailing, but doing both is still worth it. Here are the links: https://www.facebook.com/IELTSOfficial/ and https://www.facebook.com/TakeIELTSOfficial/

I also went through the same situation although i recieved an email from BC recently stating the new reference no as well as the speaking date was also mentioned in it, so i suppose we have to appear for the speaking test again.

  19. Hi Liz!
First of all thank you for all the useful insights!
In Italy tests have been suspended till the 4th April, but the lockdown and the restrictions are likely to be extended beyond the 3rd April, given the dramatic situation we are facing here. I do not know whether to book the test or not in April since the possibility that it will be canceled seems very high. However, I really need to do the test in order to satisfy the conditions of my academic offers in the UK. This situation is stressing me a lot.

    • Before booking your test in April, consider two points:
      a) will you be able to cancel the test of your own free will and get a full refund if you do not feel comfortable being in close proximity to other people (due to Coronavirus)? Check with your test centre by email or ask IELTS Official on FB. Get their response in writing. This way, you will be able to make your own decisions as the time approaches knowing you won’t lose money.
      b) will you get a full refund if your test is suspended again (of course, it will be “yes”, but always check and get it in writing)?
If you are satisfied with both, book your test in April and keep your fingers crossed. On this day of posting, China is not seeing new cases. This is encouraging and we should all take heart from this. Give yourself something to aim for, but always be ready to push that goal back a few weeks if necessary. With luck some test dates might open up towards the end of April.

IELTS have stated that in countries where the test has been suspended, they will try to organise more test dates than normal once testing is allowed to continue. They hope this will help those people who had their test suspended. Fingers crossed it will all work out ok.

Good luck!! I’m thinking of you all in Italy and all countries that are struggling right now.

  20. Hi Liz…I need your help
I am from Uzbekistan.I had already booked the date when Ielts exams were suspended due to Covid19…Do you know the order of delayed exams? I mean…should i book again or they continue according to their old turns..?
    Thanks in advance…

    • If your test has been suspended, there might be a date given of when more tests will continue. On the page above, there is a link for the countries having tests suspended and it also shows when the tests will continue again. However, all dates for continuing tests must not be taken as 100% reliable. No one can predict how long this will last. This means keep checking that link given above for updated information about your test centre and your country. So, certainly you can book another test (although check their refund policies at this time), but also be prepared for more delays. This is not the fault of IELTS. This is the current situation with most organisations and schools – nothing is set in stone.

  21. Manpreet singh says

Mam which area ilets exam cancelled

    • On the page above, there is a link which you click to visit the Official List of Countries and Cities which have suspended IELTS tests. Please click on that link.

  22. Husain says

Unfortunately my test, scheduled for 17th March in Kabul, was totally cancelled due to the current situation and the British council offered a full refund while the slots are all occupied till June 30th. Also, all tests till 30th April have been cancelled.
This comes as I had planned for next steps, so this has really affected my future plans both for applying to a grad school abroad and job prospects.
I am wondering if I had better try sitting the test in a neighboring country where it is available.

    • That is certainly an idea. However, you need to be careful travelling at this time. No one knows when a particular country will decide to close their borders. Before you decide, make sure you review your country’s guidelines about travel. See whether your country is allowing travel or asking you to avoid travel.

When it comes to applications to grad school or any university, it is a good idea to contact them directly and ask them if they have postponed application dates due to the Coronavirus. If they haven’t, ask them to consider it and then contact them again in one or two weeks to see if their policies have changed. Things are changing week by week, so don’t take any policy as fixed. Always keep checking for up dated information.

  23. Narendra says

Hi Liz, here i have a question for you. Is this a advantageous time to book IELTS as the count of the people for IELTS is decreasing cause of virus. Will it help in any ways to get a good score if there are less people opting for it.

    • I doubt it will affect your score at all. Your score is based on your answers, not on the number of people taking the test at that time. However, if the test is available to take, it is likely fewer people will have booked and hopefully be relatively safe in terms of overcrowding. Always check if they have social distancing measures in place in the exam room and what measures they have taken for hygiene.

  24. Tauseef says

    Hi Liz,
I got an email from British Council today. My IELTS -GT scheduled on 21st March in Mumbai has been cancelled.

  25. haida says

    hi.
My IELTS test is not canceled but I am worried and I do not want to write it on 21 of march is there any way to reschedule or cancel it for now?

    • In some countries, there is an option to cancel your test and get a refund. You need to contact your local test centre if you are concerned and see if this is available to you.

    Hello Mam
I booked my test on 21st March in Canada .I want to ask you , will they ask the questions about Carona virus in speaking test or in essay Writing task 2. I mean, should i prepared for this kind of questions. please reply via email .

    Thanks

    • I doubt Coronavirus has entered the test questions yet. However, health is always a common topic to prepare. See this page for common essay questions: https://ieltsliz.com/ielts-writing-task-2/. For speaking, it is possible to get the same topic. Questions about how you keep healthy (if you get that question it is fine to mention Corovavirus, for example – “I do regular exercise, but with the Coronavirus scare, I keep healthy by keep my distance from others, regularly washing my hands and making sensible decisions about where I go and what I do.”

    • Hey Liz I have one question
Lion’s share of society is it legal to use in essay?

      • If you are trying to push idioms into your essay as a way to impress the examiner, it won’t work. It will appear unnatural and you might use inappropriate idioms. Instead of aiming for idioms, aim for idiomatic language: key to the success, in the long run etc.

  29. Stella Kim says

    Hi Liz,
I live in Vancouver in Canada.
The IELTS tests around my place have not been suspended yet, but I canceled my test on March 7th because I was worried about the spread of covid-19 with the close contacts.
Actually, I was trying to apply for a certificate with the test result so that I could start working however, it is not clear when this situation would be terminated; therefore, some changes for my career are inevitable, making me a little bit discouraged at the moment.

    • Sounds like a sensible decision on your part. I understand your concerns for your future. Many of us are worried about our long term future prospects. However, this situation will pass. And as there is little we can do, other than stay safe, it is best to use this time to focus on building a brighter future rather than think about how long it will last. Channel your thoughts towards learning and developing and cast all concerns aside for a while. You have weeks or months ahead of you – what will you do with your time? Make a list of everything you can do with that precious time.

    • haida says

how did you cancel your test if it is not suspended?

      • Stella says

I’ve received an email from the IDP IELTS saying that test-takers are advised to transfer the dates or refund it if they have symptoms like a fever and a dry cough and breathing hard. At that time I had a fever so I could cancel it by presenting the verified documents from a doctor’s office.

So I am now spending my time watching your web and it is very helpful for me. Thank anyway, Liz. I hope to see new update from you.

    • As topics can never be predicted anyway and topics are often repeated from one season to the next, you should continue as normal: prepare common topics and recent topics as reported so far. You can find common topics by clicking on the RED MENU BAR at the top of the website 🙂

      • Malika says

    • You can contact your local test centre for up dates. As things are changing week by week, keep checking with them for up dates.

  37. Unfortunately, all the Ielts exams are suspended in Iran until April, 20th. The Ielts test centre informed me that my April,4th exam was cancelled, and they had no clue when the next available dates would be. At first, I thought this is a very terrible situation because all of my immigration plans went on halt. Then, I decided not to think about stuff which is out of my control and see the glass half full. I HAVE MORE TIME TO STUDY, AND I WILL GET THE BAND 8 IN THE FIRST TRY!

    • Exactly!! It’s a great goal for your future and it will help you pass the time more easily 🙂

    • At this point, it is a case of wait and see what happens. As the weeks pass, more will be understood about this virus and more will be understood about how prevalent the spread will be. As scientists and doctors know more, policies and plans will change. Keep your fingers crossed this situation will not last too long. Check what decisions have been made about tests each week that passes.

    Hey liz,
Hope you r fine and every things get well in england and the world.
I have already registered for taking Ielts exam in 18 th of April 2020 in Iran but today just informed that all Ielts exam suspended till 20th of April.
You know we have been quarantined around three weeks and it is getting harder as before.
I am just wondering wether the Queens university of belfast that I have received my conditional acceptance for my MBA will extend the dead line for sending the Ielts score or not.
By the way I wish healthiness for every individuals in the world especially in Italy.
Don’t forget to wash your hand and try not to go out for some times to stop spreading the Corona virus in our habitants.
    Best

    • It is certainly something you need to check directly with that university. I’m sure most universities will have planned for such cases. However, if they don’t give you a positive response, try again in a couple of weeks. Things are changing week by week and universities might not have all their policies updated.

Hi! Here in Italy tests have been suspended for about a week now and will remain so until April 3rd. 🙁 I need to get the IELTS done before the end of June, hopefully the situation will be better by then. Maybe they’ll set up more dates than usual to make up for the ones that have been suspended! For now, let’s be positive! By Lisa

    • I hope they will somehow organise extra test dates. Hopefully we will hear from IELTS what they plan to do soon.

  65. Seems nothing is told so till now in my country.
Though I have heard in few cities it got suspended for some months, I have received my ielts venue recently which tells me that the test is going to happen.

One thing to say that may God bless you for your kindness help.
Liz, you are amazing I have learnt lots of thing form you even beyond IELTS lessons too.

  68. Thanks Liz for worrying for us. My exam is on May 2020, so it hasnt affected to my exam dates yet.
I have an interesting question for you.
If we give Ielts exam in foreign country ( not our residential country) listening and speaking score will be increased by 1 score. Is it true?

    • No. Sorry to disappoint you. The test is the same no matter what country you take it in and the scoring is the same no matter what.

  69. Hi Liz,

Thank you for posting this information. This was my concern for past few days as I’m in one of European country where all academic institutions are closed and all my regular exams are suspended. I had booked my academic IELTS for 4th April and the current situation on banning the group meeting etc has left me concerned regarding my IELTS booking. I am worried because there is lack of communication as of now from the center where I have booked my test. I am still waiting for their response. Moreover, there are not many dates available for paper-based test but plenty on the calendar if a candidate choose to appear for computer version. I feel uncomfortable to take the test on computer and I don’t think I can give my best. This is because in reading and writing I like to scribble in order to make certain aspect of these two section more clear in my head. I like to underline keywords in reading section by pencil. So, yes I am worried about this entire situation as I have a deadline for my application which I can only send after I receive the required score.

Moving on to your second question, I can see another paper-based date in April but as I mentioned I don’t know what the center decide on this? Do you recommend to contact them and ask for suspension and give me a new date?

These events has not changed my plans for future because I need to get this score and then only I can apply for practical applications of my knowledge.

Finally, I had some anxious moments couple of days back when my university decided to suspend our classes and exams along with uncertain future. But then I decided to calm down myself saying that whatever future holds for me, I will keep improving my English as I know it will definitely help me directly or indirectly. Your post is a blessing for me because now I know how the situation is in the UK related to IELTS. In the meantime, I will keep improving my language skills. By the way, Liz, I have also recently found my new love for the reading and writing so I think I am going to feel relaxed and joyful as I am reading on various topics, listening lot of podcasts on variety of subjects and end up writing an essay towards the end of the day.

Thank you so much for all the guidance you are providing to several candidates like me. I genuinely wish to see you healthy and a ‘light worker’ for helping many people around to globe who has English as their second language.

p.s. your comment on my above writing will be deeply appreciated 🙂

    Kindest regards,
    xoxo

    • I understand your stress and worry about the situation. The real problem is that while dates can be offered for new tests, no one can predict the outcome of this virus and how long it will disrupt our lives. Choose a test date that suits you from those available but be ready for more suspended tests. These are days of uncertainty.

Uncertainty is something that is unsettling for many people. It makes them worried and nervous. But the best thing is to take each day as it comes. One day at a time. Think about what proactive thing you can do that day to make your life better. As you said very well “I will keep improving my language skills”. This is something that helps you keep a positive focus during unsettled times and will also benefit your future in the long run.

I’ll keep posting lessons and tips throughout the Coronavirus season. So, look out for my emails and keep positive 🙂

    Hi dear Liz
I live in Iran and I had to take the exam on March 14th, however, unfortunately due to the Corona Virus outbreak the exam was postponed until April 11th. That’s really affected my performance and unluckily, I couldn’t practice as well as before that..I’m not good spiritually at all, all my plans have been affacted by changing the date of my exam..I hope the situation become normal in the world as soon as possible..God bless you and all people all around the world❤

    • I understand your concern and how unsettled you must feel right now. Take this time to be thankful for small things in your life and use this time to do something positive for you and others 🙂 Be safe!

      • Mozhgan says

I really admire you for your positive mindset ..Thank you so much for your positive words, of course this situation has been learning lots of lessons to all people,so we must be kind with each other more than ever..Thank you so much for all your efforts to help us to become successful, and your kindness indeed has impressed me all the time😍

  73. Hello, I am Italian, I live near Milan. As I would like to have my test on April 18th (if not suspended) ) I need someone that help me with the writing tasks. Do you held lessons and correct writings?

  74. Hi they haven’t suspended it yet. I guess they are still going to conduct the test. They’ve only asked whether i have a travel history such as china, italy or spain or if im having a flu-like symptoms. If not, im good to take the exam, otherwise rescheduled it.

Yes i already think of another date if ever it will be suspended. As of now there are no changes for future plans. Well, im feeling worried and alarmed it is because China is not the only country which is affected but almost globally. The education of students, the various work of employees and the economic status of most countries are somewhat at risk. But i believe, this wouldn’t take too long if we only work hand in hand and be united as one.

I haven’t heard from the IELTS centre, so I suppose in Ufa they haven’t been asked to take any measures yet. Not sure if they will. It is quiet here when it comes to this virus. My exam is scheduled for the 4th of April, and I believe it will not affect my future much if it is postponed a little, if no longer than for a month. I would definitely use this time to study more.
    Thank you

  79. Hi, my Feb IELT exam was canceled in Hong Kong, but we could choose either all refund or reschedule it maximum 3 months later.
I chose the refund, but just tried March exam last week.
The exam was extreme serious for checking temperature!
I feel Speaking was not good idea to take exam now because examiner wear mask and I couldn’t catch clearly sometimes.
Good thing is, the university that I want to apply just announced that English certificate deadline will be postponed because of corona virus so I could get extra 4months to prepare!!

    • Thank you for pointing out that examiners might be wearing masks. This is something candidates should check with their test centre to be forewarned. Hopefully, your results will still be strong. Fingers crossed 🙂

I would like to take this opportunity in clearing a doubt. In writing tasks, should we leave a space between paragraphs?
    Thanks.. Stay safe.

    • Glad to hear things are calm where you are. In writing task 2, you are marked on the use of paragraphs as part of the marking criterion of Coherence and Cohesion. Making your paragraph very clear and easy to see is essential. For this reason, it is best to leave on empty line between paragraphs rather than indent. For more tips, lessons etc, see this page: https://ieltsliz.com/ielts-writing-task-2/

And another thing is I have somewhat lost my hope because of the hardness of reading portion of IELTS, need some motivation from you. Also, how should we plan our studies these days as we will be at home most of the time.

Hi Liz! I reside in Japan and my exam is rescheduled from March 7th to April 18th. Some people already took the test in March while others prefer to cancel it and get their money back minus some normal deductions. I hope i will be able to do it in April as the situation is quite changing on daily basis. BTW, thanks so much, finally got 8 in speaking and 8.5 in Listening. You deserve all the good. Keep fingers crossed! I hope you can post a little about the Unusual crazy maneuver of British to combat this novel Corona virus.

    • Great results 🙂 Very well done 🙂
About the UK response to Coronavirus, as far as I know, everyone with any suspected symptoms has been asked to self-isolate and that has been the case for weeks now. Social distancing has already been stressed repeatedly and people are taking it seriously. The elderly and infirm, being the most vulnerable, will soon be asked to self-isolate as a precautionary measure which could last months. As for lockdown, I guess it might happen once figures rise. At present, the number of cases in the UK is behind Italy, Spain, France, Germany, US and some other countries. People in the UK are taking their own precautionary measures anyway and are ready for lockdown should it happen. The government is pushing for the production of more ventilators which is essential for critical cases.

      • Alsayed says

That is good to hear about Britons, i am just feeling skeptic about what is called herd immunity which i first learn about it.

        • Herd immunity is a result of many people having contracted a virus and recovered, having build up immunity from the illness in the process. A herd means “many people” in this compound noun. The word is usually associated with a collective animal noun: a herd of cattle or a herd of sheep. Herd immunity is not a strategy the UK is specific aiming for, it is a common outcome of a virus already having passed through a community. However, as there are things still not known about Coronavirus at present, such as immunity for those who have already had it and recovered, this was just speculation, not a plan. The UK government announced yesterday that social distancing is essential. Non-essential travel should stop. People should work from home where possible. And the vulnerable should self-isolate for three months to protect themselves.

I want to have test on 4th April but I am confuse there will be problem or not…

    • It depends what country you are in. Call your test centre for advice. If they cannot give guarantees, you must wait until nearer your test date to find out if it will be suspended. Unfortunately, there is a lot of uncertainty at this time in many countries.

  88. Hi Liz,

Good Day! How are you doing today?

    Please help me with this.

    Thanks in advance.

    • If the test dates are available, it will be your choice if you wish to be a relatively close proximity to others in your area. It will also depend on how urgent your need is to take the test. Have a chat with your test centre and follow official advice.

Why arent IELTS not getting rescheduled in such difficult times of #CoronaThreat in India which is in fag end of stage 2 and entering stage 3? its strangely a slack behaviour from BritishCouncil and IELTS Org . The officials in bengaluru are not providing an option to convert it from offline to online test too … how do you justify this kinda socially irresponsible behaviour , Mam
        Liz ?

        • IELTS and the British Council will be following official advice and not creating their own rules. They have not closed the test in all countries, but have followed specific official guidelines in each country. This is something to feel good about because it means they are respecting people’s health and country policies. They will only be able to reschedule with set dates once more is known of what the virus will do. No one can predict if it will start declining and become less virulent or get worse worldwide. As with all people in all countries, this is a waiting game and decisions will change from week to week. See this page: https://www.britishcouncil.org/coronavirus-covid-response and also this page which shows that certain places in India have closed: https://www.britishcouncil.in/. Please remember that the British Council will also be following UK advice as well as local governmental advice for it’s staff as is required. This is something they cannot avoid or refuse to do.
