  2. Veronica Plenty says

    Hi,

I also got No. 6 wrong. My answer was “Not Given”. I used the rationale that you used to come up with my answer. Because the passage doesnt speak about the butterfly being toxic to the predators. Therefore, in my reasoning, it is NOT GIVEN. I didn’t think to put it as false. I used the same analogy as the first question. If it is not in the passage then it is not given?

    • Always remember that you are looking to see if the statement can be provided right or wrong. So aim at meaning always and don’t try to match words. Is there any information in the passage which shows it is not toxic – answer – yes – it shows it is bitter in taste which means it is not toxic.

      • Does bitter implies non toxic, it may be bitter and non toxic as well. So, I have chosen NOT GIVEN as just like above person. Please suggest how to understand this question. Rest all I got correct.

        • “bitter” means the taste is not nice. This means you can eat it, but it doesn’t taste nice. A lemon is bitter.

  6. Dear Liz,
I have doubt in question no. 2.
As per me answer should be “True”. Kindly give little clarification .

    Thanks

    • The question is “Migration skips only one generation.”. This means that the butterflies migrate and then only generation does not migrate and the next generation migrates. It skips (misses) only one generation. But the passage clearly shows it is false. The passage says “several generations” / it is the “great grandchildren” that migrate. This means more than two generations are skipped.

  7. KasiaM says

    Thank you!

  8. Excuse me madam but I think the six should be NG… the contradictory meaning of “toxic to predators” should be “not toxic to predators” which is not mentioned in the original text. Could you please explain a bit to me? Thank you for your kindness.

    • You are trying to find specific words instead of looking for meaning? Was it toxic to predators? Did they die if they ate it? No, they didn’t. All they got as a bad taste – it tasted bitter. This means it was not toxic. Always aim for meaning, not matching words.

      • Thank you madam I think I get it now! Your explanations are indeed very helpful–as always! Wish you all the best!
