  1. This is my response to the question, *parents think that children reading entertainment books are waste of time and they should read serious educational books instead. *to what extent do you agree?

    Answer:
There is no doubt that books play a vital role in young people’s development. It is thought by some people that kis should read academic books instead of story books. I strongly believe that a bit of the two views when properly scheduled would help children to improve on their analytical skills, feel relaxed and improve on their social skills.

Firstly, one of the best ways to relax is by reading novels. These novels come in different versions such as poems, prose and plays. Most times kids prefer to read these books because they are interesting and intriguing, which makes them feel at ease and gain concentration. For example, comic books make children laugh. Laughter reduces stress level and relaxes body muscles, as a result they are healthy and agile.

I’m addition, story books teach young people about salient aspects of life like love, respect and honesty. These social values are important in order to maintain good interpersonal relationship with people around. It is impossible to learn such skills from academic books which contains mostly theories and scientific principles.

Furthermore, educational books expose children to different career options early in life. It is easier for kids to make career choices based on interest and this can only be achieved by early exposure to books that would prepare them for the future. For example, medicine requires a good understanding of biology. For a child to pursue a career in it, he must be exposed to subjects such as elementary science, anatomy and physiology while growing up. As a result z his mind is fully prepared and equipped to forge ahead to become a doctor.

I’m conclusion, although academic books are important for young people to become professionals, storybooks are equally essential for leisure and for teaching social etiquettes. One needs to find a balance in order to get value from the two.

  2. Hi liz, I took the exam feb. 14 and this was the task 2 of our writing.

Some people claim that public museums and art galleries will not be needed because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  3. Hi, Liz!

I would just like to thank you for this amazing blog, which I used as the main source for preparation, as well as for your advanced lessons.

I took my exam on 2 February and got 7.5 overall band score with L:7.5 R:8 W:7 S:7.

It’s more than I needed and more than I could expect even though I performed much worse in listening (stably scored 8.5 practicing official preparation materials) and my essay turned out to be extremely long (340 words! though the number of sentences was usual) and I only had time to look through it once at the end, so I may have missed some typos. But thanks to you I knew in detail how to treat every type of essay and diagram and I have no doubt it worked.

    And a couple of leaks:

    Speaking task 2:
Describe an intelligent person you know.

    Writing task 2:
Many people find it difficult to evenly distribute time between their work and other parts of life.
Why is this happening? What solutions can you suggest to deal with the problem?

  4. Hi liz, if you have an extra time can you please check my writing?

    Q1:
Reading is an essential part of learning, through it people gain knowledge about various things, and with that, I believe that children would benefit from it, regardless of the content.

More parents are in the opinion that, when it comes to reading, their children should prioritise the books that are taught in school in this way, they are confident that their child is knowledgeable enough about their lessons in the school, which maybe lead them to think that other books not related are just a waste of time. Undoubtly, educational books provides children the basic knowledge that they should be aware of, such as, they need to read an English book in order for them to know the fundamentals of English language, same as they should read the book about science to be familiar of the things around them.

However, allowing them to read non-academic books, is beneficial for their growth also, because it could also trigger their imaginations about other stuff that are not taught inside the four walls of their classroom. These are the things, that develops, other ideas and skills that they can possess in the future. Consequently , children are just adding more information to their brain and definitely not wasting their time.

More importantly, the presence of the parents should always be available, this is in order for them to guide their offspring, with whatever they read, and make them understand the things that their mind cannot process. Although, it might be difficult, but definitely a must thing to do.

In conclusion, reading is important. It is one way that people, including the children, learns the things that they need in life.

  5. Can you please post some questions for February 2019? Tomorrow is my test. I want to have a look on probable questions in advance.

  6. Abdul Hamid says

Q8. some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. Agree or disagree?

An opportunity to helps others is the essential thing a rich person has, according to some. I completely disagree that it is the most important thing because complying with regulations and paying taxes are of utmost importance for a rich person.

BP-1 An important for a rich person is to comply with regulations.
BP-2 Paying taxes is more important than just helping others
Conclusion, complying and paying taxes are more crucial than the opportunity to help others.

    IN Task achievement.
Does this addresses all parts of the question fully to reach band 9 in TA?
I think finding and addressing to nuances (in the statements by ielts) along with the direct question plays more important role in achieving high band score.

Could you please make a video or blog on understanding and finding nuances in questions.

    • Your opinion is that you don’t agree. This disagreement forms part of your opinion. Where is it in the body paragraphs? You can’t ignore part of your opinion. You conclusion that paying taxes and complying with rules is more important than helping people – how did your essay prove this? You didn’t explain why helping people isn’t equally as important.

  7. Dec 22 Writing
Part 1 : You just had some repair work at home, but you are not happy with it. Write a letter to the manager

Part 2 : Our traditional customs are getting lost. What are the reasons? How school and parent can help in this matter?

  8. Hello, Liz! Firstly, I would like to say Thank you! All your tips and advice really helped me!
Yesterday, I took my IELTS exam and there was a topic in Task 2 about Business training and meetings across online.

  9. Hi and and I beg your pardon, but where is my topic which I wrote the 27th October ? I not sure but my post was deleted, I’ve got no idea why.

  10. Hi Liz, thank you for the advanced essay writing sessions…I have the writing tommorrow Dec 1st. Sorry that I have posted this question on a wrong page earlier. Qn is
Topic – some ppl say that all levels of education, too much time is spent on learning facts and not enough on practical skills.
    Do you agree disagree?

If we write the essay agreeing to the topic, then should it only explain the points in favour of “not having enough practical time” Or should it also include the benefits of having practical skills..

    • This has two issues rather than one. It is about 1) learning facts 2) practical experience. When you give your opinion, it must cover both. A one sided opinion would be that you agree too much time is spent learning facts and not enough time is spent on practical experience.
Also check how the question is written. Check it is about how much time is being spent (a current situation) or about how much time should be spent (recommendation).
