Hi Liz thanks for your answers to idioms questions. Great for doing this. Liz I have lived in Newzealand for 6 years. I am not originally from here. If I get question like Describe your home town? Does it mean that do I need to describe my current home town or home town back in my country? Next question do you prefer to eat cake or dessert? I am not a fan of these sweet thing. So I would like to know this answer from you. Next is what questions they could ask based on the words Memory, alone time, numbers and perfume. I look forward to hearing from you. This questions are from speaking part 1

    • Your hometown is the place where you grew up as a child.
IELTS is not a trick test. If you don’t like something, say that. You are marked on your ability to communicate clearly in English, not to pretend to like something. Answer: “I actually don’t like either cake or dessert. I prefer savoury food and savoury snacks.” The word “savoury” is high band score. Use your English to be direct, open, honest and chatty.
Memory – how do you remember things? Do you ever write lists? Do you ever use calendars or use them on your phone? etc etc
Alone time – do you enjoy being alone? What do you do when you are alone? Is there any activity that has to be done alone? Did you like spending time alone when you were a child? etc etc
Numbers – Do you have a favourite number? Is there is any number in your country that is special? Do you enjoy using numbers or doing calculations? Did you like maths when you were a child? etc
Perfume – do you like perfume? When was the last time you bought it? Did you ever buy it for anyone or give it to anyone? Did you mother wear it when you were a child?
I have put “etc” because all topics in part 1 have similar questions. This is explained in my free video lesson which you can find in the main Speaking section of this website.

  2. Liz, I must say you are far too kind. I appreciate this gesture.
