    Hi Liz,

Thank you very much for so many useful tips and lessons. I have been following all the details on your blog from past one month and I think I have improved a lot.

I have one question regarding the writing task 2 that is an essay. If we get a topic which says “To what extent do you agree”, can we disagree with the statement as well? For example this topic “With the increase global demand in oil and gas, undiscovered areas of the world should be opened up to access more resources. To what extent do you agree” if I want to write against using any new natural resources further.

    Thanks,
    Pooja

  2. Hello Ma’am,
In the above page you have put “is it a Positive development or Negative development” under direct type question.
My Question – 1. So as it ask for our opinion, shouldn’t it be under opinion essay type?
    2. And also how should this type of question be answered? Same as one sided opinion approach?
Since i have purchased your advanced essay lessons, i am wondering the way to answer it correctly for a good band score. Your reply in this regards will be highly appreciated.

    • May essays ask for your Opinion, such as “Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages”, however I teach each type separately because they use different techniques and language.

      • Yes exactly.. so can you please let us know how to answer the positive – negative development question? Should it be answered the same way you taught in your advanced opinion lesson when we choose one sided opinion way..

        • You can choose positive, negative or a combination based on a specific view point (never attempt the last option unless you have been trained).

          • Thank you ma’am for your reply. I am training myself watching your advanced Essay videos and practising the same 🙂

  3. After reading your blog i get overall 7 bands in Ielts. Thank you Liz

  4. Good day!

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your very helpful tips. I have watched your videos and read through your website, and they are quite easy to understand. Secondly, I was wondering if you could give me a feedback on my essay about the 4th topic for Opinion Essay 2017.

Thank you very much in advance!

Task Description: Young people spend their free time in shopping malls. This has negative effects on young people and society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

    Answer:
Shopping centers have become very popular among youngster in recent years. Proponents are concerned that spending a lot of time in such entertainment places has bad repercussions not only on the younger generation, but also on society as a whole. I completely agree with this notion because such habit promotes procrastination and considering the fact that children are the world’s future, this would also result to irresponsible citizens in the years to come.
Strolling or hanging out with friends in malls on a regular basis makes young adults unproductive. Instead of doing their homework or studying for an exam, students devote most their hours on leisure activities. Some pupils even skip classes just to be with their peers and their usual place of rendezvous is the nearest shopping mall. For instance, it’s very common to see people in their school uniforms at the malls nowadays, even during school hours.
Since these young people would eventually grow into adults, what they would become would significantly affect what the population would be ten years from now. If children get used to prioritizing their wants over their needs, they would never mature as they become older. A population full of immature adults would lead to a country’s instability, especially if a particular childish person would be in the position of power. The current president of the United States is a perfect example, who has already made numerous political gaffes as of late.
To conclude. I absolutely agree that shopping malls have quite a negative influence on youngsters and the community. Aside from teaching kids to become complacent, spending most of the day at the mall would also make emotionally incompetent adults in the future.

  5. hello. mam
can i use some idioms and pharse in task 2

  6. Hello Liz,
The task2 question that asked for general writing in Nov 2017 confused every one .The question is “everything in life that are essential for free ,that can not get with money”.Literally i cried in the examination hall because i did not have a clue what it means at that time;not only that, i was running out of time .After the exam i realized what it meant, but it was too late obviously.I would be much obliged to you if you can give a sample answer to this. Please provide more such sort of questions if possible in your blog.No words in the dictionary can ever describe the depth of my gratitude to you for your great work.God bless you.

    • One of the problems with providing model answers to exam questions is that IELTS does not release the questions. This means I rely on students to remember the exact essay question. Unfortunately, the exact wording is essential. Just one word different and the essay will be different. With this essay, students kept telling me different words. I put up ideas for the topic but I couldn’t write a model answer because of this.

    • yes we can get more essential things in our life for free such as oxygen, light from sun and water from rain like everything is free its enough to survive.
By this topic we can proceed.

    • Dass David says

      Hello
Can you kindly share with us some of the ideas and what is your understanding from the topic… Appreciated.
      Thank you
      Dass

  7. Ibtissem says

Good morning Liz. I’m from Tunisia
First of all thank you very much for your useful website. I learn a lot from you.
I passed the exam 2 December. My problem was how to manage my time, unfortunately, I did not complete the Task 1.
Anyway the Academic Task 2 talk about ( I don’t remember exactly but it is kind of this) paying taxes: some people think that it is enough for the country the other believe it is your responsibility Discuss both views and give your opinion. The Task 1 it was two bar graph of the CO2 emission per person and per country.

    • Thanks for sharing 🙂 You need to practise timing a lot at home before you take the test.

  8. Hi Liz, i’ve just come from my ielts exam. Thank you for all your support! It helped me so much. My writing task 2 was: success in the adult life depends on the bringing up by parents in childhood. Do you agree or disagree? The topic was easy, but i was too nervous and haven’t written all the words (about 235 only). Hope next time i win.

  9. Shalini says

    Hi Liz,

I am Shalini. Thanks for helping out candidates appearing for IELTS test. I am planning to sit the test on 16 Dec 2017 and I am just curious to know whether General Training writing task 1 also get table or pie chart explanations or simply other request or complaint letters?

  10. Rustam Avezov says

The date of my exam was 25.11.2017. Task 2 topic was ‘Some people agree with the advantages of factory farming and want to create new types of vegetables and fruits. Others oppose this opinion. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.’ I wanted to share information

  11. Mohamed Gouda Mohamed says

    Hello Liz
    regarding this question
the advantages provided by English as a global language will continue to outweigh the the disadvantages to out extent do you agree to this statement?
is not this considered an opinion essay ? or it still considered an advantage outweigh disadvantage question and should be written in that format?

  12. Dear Liz,

Thanks a lot for your great work!
I have just received my results, my band score is 8!
The materials you provide are extremely helpful!

But I wonder if 8 is C2 or C1 level? The certificate says that C1, however, there is information on the website cambridgeenglish.org that 8 is C2. I am a bit confused… and this is important for my CV

Once again, thank you so much!
    Kate

    • Very well done!! Contact Cambridge directly to confirm and also contact your test center about it.

  13. Dear Liz,
    Considering the first question.
Schools are spending more time teaching traditional subjects such as history. Some people think that they should rather spend more time in teaching skills that can help students find a job. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

In the first body paragraph I want to talk why learning history is advantageous for students.

Can I just talk about history , or I have to talk about the other traditional subjects that are taught at schools ?

Thank you very much for helping us 💕

    • Don’t ever ignore part of the question. The question offers you two opinions: more time teaching history, less on skills OR more time teaching skills, less on history. You decide your opinion.

  14. Rabindra Bhus says

  17. Bee Bautista says

    Hi ms. Liz,

How true yhat they are using a different format for test 2. They say its not full block format, that indentions are already needed…?

    • It is best to leave one line empty between paragraphs – it is easier for the examiner to see the paragraphs than indenting.

  20. Ruhi Masarrath says

    Hello Liz,

Please help me with the below essay. Need you help in getting it reviewed.

Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters( food, clothes and entertain) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that effect them.

    Model answer:

Giving freedom to children is indeed controversial. People who are against giving freedom to children believe that giving freedom to children in daily matters will engender in a society of selfish individuals while others think that it is important to encourage the creativity and create self dependent individuals. I strongly believe that parents should always strike a balance when it comes to giving freedom to their children.

On one hand, freedom of choices enables them to be aware of surrounding environment and also make them self-reliant individual. Permitting children to make their own choice can have detrimental effect on them as this can inculcate self composed or self centered attitude during their growing years. Hence, parents should guide their progeny and deter them from doing anything or harmful.

On the other hand, children who are restricted from everything can become more fragile and lack confidence. They become dependent on their families or friends for all their needs. Also, this behavioral trend can have adverse impact on their ability to be more creative.

To conclude, creative and selfless people can build a stronger society and parents play a vital role in by allowing certain freedom to their children but there should be a demarcation to this liberty.

  29. Bimbo says

    Hi Liz and Liz Bloggers,
I read in a particular website that we should refrain from using personal pronouns like “I”, “we” for thesis statements in writing task 2. Please what is your opinion regarding this?

    • If the instructions ask for your opinion and you fail to give it, you will get marked down severely. You can only give your opinion by using My or I. There is no other way to express your own thought.

      • Bimbo says

        Thanks a lot,
I have always followed your lessons right from one I found your blog, and I do not intend to change now. Personally I beleive it makes logical sense to express opinion with “I strongly agree……” than saying “This essay will agree…….” the latter sounds a bit informal to me and that was why I needed clarification. Thanks for making it clear.

  30. Bimbo says

    Hi Liz,
Please kindly check my essay on the question below and let me know the areas I can improve.
    Thank you.

Question: Schools are spending more time teaching traditional subjects such as history. Some people think they should rather spend more time on teaching skills that can help students find a job. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

    ESSAY:
Schools now focus more on native subjects like history. Some are of the opinion that they ought to concentrate more on teaching career oriented courses. In my opinion I firmly support the idea that schools should spend more time on subjects that are job oriented as this has huge benefits to the individual and the society.

Firstly, it’s important to consider the reason why most people go to school. Almost everyone goes to school in order to be useful to themselves and become better in life. To achieve these vital goals, gainful employment is an absolute prerequisite. Therefore it is pertinent for school authorities to devote more time and resources to subjects in these areas.

Another point to consider is the nature of the job market. The labour market is very competitive and almost saturated because there are more job seekers compared to available job slots. Therefore, to stand a better chance in this fierce sector, students must acquire all necessary skills in order to be able to make a bold statement and sell themselves more easily to employers of labour.

Finally, we must think of the society. Skilled labour is one of the vital ingredients in the growth of any society and the school is one of the major institutions that oil this engine of progress. Consequently, for the country to thrive and stand tall in the comity of nations, it must have a wealth of skilful entrepreneurs. This goes without saying that teachers hence ought to deliver by laying more importance on subjects that will earn the students better jobs and make them useful to the society at large.

In conclusion, it cannot be overemphasised that in order for people to achieve their goals in life and for the society to advance, schools should focus more on career oriented subjects.

  31. Risalat says

Hi Liz and all the good people,

I took my IELTS test last year (October), and while I was preparing, I entirely depended on this website and Liz’s YouTube channel. I was confident and had two weeks to prepare. By the grace of Almighty, I managed to score 7.5 (L 7.5 S 7 R 8.5 W 6.5). Credit goes to you, Liz 🙂

Now, as you can see, my score is not that much balanced. I thought I’d do better at Listening but couldn’t. I also want a Writing module score above 7.0; and a combined score of 8 or above. Hence, I’m thinking of sitting for another test coming year. Those who have taken IELTS recently and scored good in Writing as well as overall, please share your strategies with me.

    Best.

  32. Dear Liz,
I need to achieve 7 at writing, I watched your helpful videos and try to exert them in my writing, but I don’t know how to make my 6-6.5 writing 7 at last.
Every one says since writing sheets have been sent to Australia, England or Canada to be assessed, gaining 7 is not accessible any more.

Thanks in advance for your kind real comments.

    Hello Liz,
I’m so grateful to have found you the day before my IELTS exam. The material you have provided was really helpful, thank you for all! I have a question concerning writing task 2. Our teacher told us to compare both points of view in all of our essays. However I realized that you have used different methods for each of the essay proposals. (Opinion, discussion etc.) I think that our teacher want us to write the section 2 according to discussion format but I’m not sure what to do if I encounter an opinion essay proposal tomorrow. Could you please help me, I’m so confused..:(

    • An opinion requires your opinion only. But make sure your opinion does cover all issues in the task.

    Hello Liz,
Thanks for providing these useful lessons and tips . I have a question . We get 2 answer sheets in writing task . If I interchange the answers I.e by mistake if I write the task 1 response on a task 2 paper will I get a zero ? Just wondering if there is a zero score in ielts

    • If you do that, then make sure you write very clearly at the top of the paper which one is task 1 and which is task 2. As long as you make it clear to the examiner, it will be fine.

  40. Chika says

    hi Liz
Thanks for all the practice lessons. please could you clarify this confusing question for me:
    1. do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
    2. do you think that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages?
my problem is that i don’t know how to go about with the answers again (too much reading. L.O.L.).
Am i to write only the advantages in the essay or to write both the advantages/benefits and the disadvantages in different paragraphs as usual?
I know how to structure the advantage and disadvantage question, but the OUTWEIGH is now an issue.
    thanks.

    • Your task is to answer the question. Do you think the advs are more important than the disads? If you agree then you must explain why the ads are more important than the disads. Always just answer the question and follow instructions.

You will need to develop your English and reduce the number of errors. If the problem is technique, you can review my tips: https://ieltsliz.com/ielts-writing-task-2/

  49. Ranjha says

    Hi Liz,
hopefully, you will be enjoying good health. Your blog is nothing less than a wikipedia for IELTS test takers. Liz I cannot focus at one thing for long time even 20 to 40 minutes, as a result, I take longer time than usual for every task to complete. I am seriously suffering from not-being-able to finish essay task-1, 2 in the specified time. And my test is around the corner. What should I do?

    • In writing task 1, the introduction should take 1 min. It’s basic and easy. The overview takes time to decide upon and is the most important paragraph. Then you add detail in two body paragraphs. Aim for no more than 180 words. In task 2, you should spend time planning – at least 5 mins. This means you have a clear idea of almost all sentences before you start writing – this makes writing faster. Good luck!

  68. Hi Liz,

    I’m from the Philippines.
Your IELTS tips are really helpful. Thank you very much.
I have a request, can you please check my Writing Task 2.
I spent approximately 45 minutes writing it. Thank you again.
    Hoping for your reply.

    Question:
Nowadays, more and more older people who need employment compete with the younger people for the same jobs. What problems this causes? What are solutions?

Job competition among youth and older people has arisen in many countries around the world these days. Albeit serious problems have emerged as a result of this, some initiatives could be taken to mitigate such predicament.

First, a major consequence would be the increasing rate of unemployment junior workers could experience because of the large number of people vying for the same work. Hence, the joblessness could often lead teenagers committing delinquencies. To illustrate, in some countries, such as the Philippines, young people resort to petty crimes such as robbing, drug dealing and prostitution for the sake of earning money to support themselves or their family. Second, the abundance of mature aged employees, whilst highly experienced, could be ineffective and unproductive owing to their health deterioration. For example, eye problems like cataract, which is most common in elderly workers, could impede their job performance, and attendance at some point.

Nevertheless, the government and companies could play an essential role in combating these problems. To start with, companies could implement early retirement incentive programs for elderly laborers. Special healthcare and other social welfare payments would help them ensure that they could live healthily for the rest of their life. Consequently, this could create job openings for a younger generation of workers. Additionally, government employers could generate numerous job opportunities for the youth. This could be done and supported by, for instance, a fast- track scheme, a system for rapid training and job promotion of talented young staff. In this way, many of them can be hired and develop their potential to the fullest and make a significant contributions to the company they are working for.

In general, it is apparent that the problems caused by older and younger people prospecting similar job are varied. Notwithstanding this, solutions are available for the government and companies to lessen the ramifications.

    • Did you learn this phrase from a book or website?: “Albeit serious problems have emerged as a result of this, some initiatives could be taken to mitigate such predicament.” The examiner will not accept learned phrases.

hope you are well, I am too much worried I have to plan General IELTS test in May.
but my writing power is to week. can you please guide me what I do step by step.
    how can I improve?
looking forward to your positive response.

  73. Hello Liz!

First of all, I would like to thank you for all that great and enormously userful material you’ve been postiong here!

I had my Academic IELTS yesterday’s morning in Saint-Petersburg (Russia) and my Writing topic 2 was just the same as Tomas’ (about the open-space design).

In Writing 1 I had to describe a linear graph about number of books bought in bookstores, supermarkets and in the Internet. The tricky thing was that it illustrated the data from 2000 to 2020, so I needed to write about some projections too.

I had to stop in the midddle of the sentence in writing 1 as I’ ve spent too much time on the essay (about 46-74 minutes). I wrote more than 150 words though.
That makes me really nervous about my results -____-.

Oh yes, and the last thing. They have changed design of answersheets for writing task 1. Now there are 16 lines on the first page (instead of 10).

    Mariia.

    • Thanks so much for sharing, Mariia. It’s not easy writing about graphs which span from the past into the future. Here’s a sample sentence: “The number of books sold over the internet rose from 1 million in 2000 and is predicted to reach 25 million in 2020.” As long as you write over 150 words you are safe fro penalties and as long as you wrote a clear overview, that will also help. Task 1 is only worth about 33% of your marks. So, fingers crossed you do well. I’ll put a notice up next week about difference writing paper – but I doubt it’s available online.

  74. Hi Liz.
I just had my IELTS exam today on 18th if February.
Today’s writing task 2 topic was:
Nowadays, some buildings such as offices and schools have open-space design instead of separate rooms. Why is it so? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

I found it kinda tough, mostly because I’ve focused on the recent topics, but managed to write it. I would like to take this opporunity to say big THANKS to You!

    Tomas

    • Thanks for sharing 🙂 It’s a tough topic. Open space is supposed to be better because it promotes interaction between staff, reduces barriers between the levels of staff, is usually better for natural lighting and it is a cost effective use of space. The downside is lack of privacy, spread of illness due to close staff work space and distractions to staff which lowers work performance. I’m glad you found my website useful 🙂

Hi, I was wondering how it’s possible to write something whit a sense in only 40 min. Any advice?

Liz you are helping me a lot!

    d.

    • There are three keys:
      1. Develop ideas for topics. This should be part of your preparation for your test.
      2. Learn how to plan your essay: https://ieltsliz.com/ielts-writing-task-2-essay-planning-tips/
      3. Practice with time limits after you have done step 1 and 2

        • Funny 🙂 I didn’t think anyone would notice that comment. Sometimes I can’t help having a bit of fun while I’m working 🙂 Thanks for appreciating my website, Anne, and good luck with your test !! 🙂

          • So , turns out i messed up with writing again :/. The other modules were pretty simple, should be easy 8 on those.
Gonna give pte a try next, apparently aus government allows it for immigration.

          • I may not be so brilliant when it comes to writing, but I’m good in spotting tiny details 😘 I really enjoyed reading this trail of conversation that instead of reviewing, I find myself just having good vibes because of this little chat.
I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that nobody is a suitable candidate yet to be flash’s kidney recipient 😂🤣😀😜
Liz, keep up the good work and sincerest thank you to u. May u fully recover from the chronic illness that u are suffering from. I’ll pray for your complete healing.

    hey liz,

yesterday I’ve appeared in speaking test (13/2/17,India)

cue card: two people from the same family.

i didn’t ans. 1 que. but my over all speaking was good.
so howmuch bands 1 ans. can decrease? half or full or one n half????

    • Thanks for sharing 🙂 The cue card does not contain any questions at all, only a few prompts which you use or not – as you want.

      • In speaking I found.. speaker wrote on performance sheet… in task 1 he wrote 450 and in task 2 he wrote 550. Could it be my band?

        • No, it is more likely to be timing. Don’t pay any attention to notes the examiner makes. They do not decide the band score until the end of the test.

  78. Hi Liz,

I couldn’t find video or text about Direct essay / Cause Solution essay. Where to find?
My exam date is 16 Feb.

  79. Mohamed Ali says

    Hello Liz
Thank you so much for your help.
If the question was as “Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?”
Then, can I deal with this question as ” ….. outweigh …” and I have to give my opinion?

    • You give your opinion – is it positive or is it negative?

      • Sumitra says

        Hi Liz,
In such a question would it be ok to outline the positive and negative side and then in your conclusion you make your stand whether it is positive or negative. Is that allowed?

        Thanks

        • Your essay must follow the instructions. If the instructions are: “is this a positive or negative development” then your WHOLE essay answers that. If you only answer this in the final sentence, you will get a lower score.

  80. Today i have finishe my writing on 11 feb 2017

    Writing essay 2 for gt

People from fewer countries buy new things while some second hand
    Negative or positive this trend?

    What would be the answer.

I wrote because of standard of living and job

    Is this my right reply?

    • To be honest, the essay question you have written isn’t correct. It contains errors which make it difficult for me to understand. Is this the question:

Fewer people are buying new things and instead prefer to buy things second hand. Is this a positive or negative trend?

This is asking you to decide if this is positive or negative. You MUST state which in your introduction. Your whole essay will explain why. It is not the aim to explain why this is happening.

      • Hi Liz

This is Rohan. I wanted to mention the other questions as well.

Task 1: Write a letter to the head teacher of the school saying that your child would like to take a day off from the school to attend an important family celebration. In the letter you should mention:

        1) what is the celebration?
        2) why is it important for your child to attend it?
        3) mention how will he make up the missed classes?

Speaking Test Questions (Whatever I can recollect..)

        Date: 9th Feb
        Location: Sharjah, UAE

        Part- I
        1) What is your full nme?
        2) Do you study or work?
        3) Why did you choose the kind of work?
        4) Do you like holidays?
        5) What do you prefer – bigger or shorter holidays and why?
        6) Do you like chocoloates?
        7) How often do you eat them?
        8) In your childhood did you like them?

        Part -II

Tell about a small business that you will start in the near future.
        1) why are you starting this?
        2)what do you need?
        3) where will you start this?
        4) what do you think will be the benefits?

        Part III

        1) Which are the small businesses in your area?
        2) Differences between small businesses and MNCs?
        3) How can govt help small businesses?
4)What do you think will be beneficial to the local community – MNC/Small business?

        Thanks!!

      • Yesterday topic
In some countries less people buy new things and more buy secnd hand things.
        What are the reasons
        Is it apositive or nagative

        • Hi Liz,

This is the exact question given on 11 Feb 2017 for GT Task 2. What reasons can you give with regards to the statement given other than high price in brand new items?
Do you have any sample answers written for this question?

          Regards,
          Nilu

          • buying second hand: the main reason is cost. With a downturn in world economy, people in many countries can’t afford to buy new things and instead buy cheaper, second hand products. Another reason is that people are becoming more environmentally aware and understand about recycling items.

      • I had the same question, and it was a direct question- People now a days buy new things instead of repairing a broken thing like in the old days. What is the reason behind this?
What are the effects of this?

I wrote my opinion in the end, was it the right thing to do with a question like this? And i have 1 para intro , 2 para to the first question , one para to the last question and one para to the conclusion. I have another paper on 16th so please advice.

        • Sounds fine. You can give your opinion in the conclusion for this as a final statement or miss it all together – your choice as the instructions don’t ask for your opinion.

      • Ana Paula says

Hi Liz, I just took the IELTS exam in the same day as Sam, in Geneva.
The Task 1 was the following:
You want your child to have a day off school for a family celebration.
Say why is it important for you that your child attends to it and say how will you “make up” for the missed lessons.

        Task 2 asked:
In some countries, instead of buying new things, some people prefer to buy second-hand things (funny they use the word things).
What do you think are the reasons for that.
Is this a positive or a negative trend?

Just wanted to let you know how awesome your site is, thanks for it, and I just love the way you speak 🙂

        Ana

        • Thanks for sharing 🙂 I’m really pleased you are benefiting from my website 🙂

          • Hey

I took the exam on 11th as well -Academic.
The question in task 2 was same as Ana described but the second part of question was different. It was something like – What are the effects of this?.

I wanted to ask you whether Essays like these require conclusion or not?
And also i wrote 1 para for into, then 2 para for first question, 1 para for the second question and then the conclusion Para.

Please tell if this was a right approach.

            Thanks

            • All essays in IELTS require a conclusion. See this page: https://ieltsliz.com/ielts-writing-task-2-last-5-mins/

              • Paa Jee says

I had the same question on 11th Feb test.

                1. Introduction (40 words)
                2. Paragraph 1 (reason 1 => due to low average income) 80 words
                3. Paragraph 2 (reason 2 => to be updated with latest models of phones, cars and gadgets they sell and buy used things frequently) 60 words
                4. Paragraph 3 (My opinion => i think this is positive in two sense ; first it improves cashflow in country thus boosting economy and secondly low income people can have more things in less budget) 50 Words
                5. Conclusion (50 words)

              • How is that !!?????

But teacher you did say that in task1 conclusion is not important!!????
                We just should write
                Into
                Owerview
                Body1
                Body2

I did this way on my task1

                Am i right or false!?????????

                Thaaaaanks

                • Task 1 is NOT an essay. Writing Task 1 is a report which contains an overview. Don’t confuse task 1 and task 2. Task 2 = essay, Task 1 = report.

              • Paa Jee says

                Hi Liz,

  82. hi mam,
what does the term human race refer to, can u please just tell me the very basic meaning.i browsed it in various ways but i couldn’t understand the exact meaning . iam taking my ielts lrw exam tommorrow i.e; feb 11 so, it would be great if u could help in this.
    thanks in advance

    • It means “all people”. It’s a paraphrase but one that can only be used in certain contexts. So, when it says progress made by the human race, it means progress that mankind (all people) have made, such as medicine, technology, space travel etc.

  83. Hey mam, tomorrow is my speaking test .. i m bit affraid of it cuz m having hesitation nd pauses while speaking and it keeps my fluency slow please help what should i do now??

    • Ask the examiner to repeat the question to give you time to think. Don’t do it too much but a couple of times is fine and it won’t affect your score. Use fillers — what I mean is …. I suppose what I want to say is …. Relax, be chatty and enjoy it. Nerves will not help so just go there and try and enjoy the topics and the chat. Good luck!!

    Are you doing great job
I have one question in my mind is what is exact difference between the “to what extend do you agree or disagree” and”do you agree or disagree “???
Please give me brief idea about it and how how’s both are differentiate?

    • As you can see, these instructions (to what extent do you agree/ do you agree or disagree etc) are all grouped under the Opinion Essay. They are the same essay but with paraphrased instructions.
