  1. HI LIZ !
COULD YOU TELL ME WETHER THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN”IDIOMATIC LANGUAGE”AND “IDIOM”?

    • Idioms are one type of idiomatic language. Another form of idiomatic language is phrasal verbs.

  2. Hi Liz! I have taken my speaking ielts today. In the second part I was asked about the last conversation I enjoyed. Could you please tell me, whether it is hard topic or easy one? I have heard the theory that the examiner have two topics for each student and based on the answers from the first part they will give you an easy or hard version of the part 2 question.

  3. Hello Liz

I had my speaking test today. I was conscious regarding range and grammar . However there are a couple of things I am concerned about
    a) At some instances, I fumbled and used wrong words e.g. him instead of them but I corrected it instantly. Would that affect my band score
    b) The examiner asked me 10-11 questions despite the fact that I was not repeating my ideas or words. Generally from what I’ve read in various blogs, there are not many questions unless the examiner feels that we’ve repeated or we don’t have ideas or wants to understand the real potential of our range .

As far as I am concerned, I think I put across my ideas and finished on time/ examiner stopped me for all the tasks. What are your views ?

    • 1. It is best not to self-correct because it affects your fluency.
      2. The examiner does not ask more questions due to your performance. The number of questions asked has no relation to your level of English at all. You should not pay attention to gossip online. It 100% normal to have about 12 questions in part 1. In part 3, the number can vary, but not due to your English.
      3. I do not understand what you mean by “I put my across my ideas and finished on time”. The examiner does not mark your ideas or how well you support your ideas in the speaking test. Finishing on time is completely irrelevant for IELTS speaking.
It sounds like you have been worried about the wrong things.

  4. Hi Liz!

I did my Speaking exam today and at one point during the Part 2, I lagged for a good 5-10 seconds. I thought my 1-2 minutes was up but the examiner urged me to speak some more and I did, thankfully. I recovered, picked up myself and spoke again.

Overall, I am confident with my Speaking test except for that one unfortunate part. I know it would affect my mark but I really do hope my performance from the rest of the test made up for it.

Still hoping to get my target score, fingers crossed!

    • Your score is based on your overall performance rather than each part. Wait for your results and hopefully all will be fine ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. shamsher says

Which speaking section has more weightage?

    • All are equal. They are not marked separately. Your score is decided at the end of the test based on your overall performance throughout.

  6. Kinjal Trivedi says

Can you tell us about the poisonous plant in cue card?

    • The main topic is plants. You can talk about either a poisonous plant or if you don’t know one, a plant that isn’t poisonous.

  7. Geraldine Cifuentes says

    Leafy, solar, courtyard, aliveness, blossom.

  8. Shakhrizod says

    Good afternoon Liz

Today during the speaking exam (part 2) I answered all the questions and then concluded my speech. However, examiner glanced at his watch and asked ,Could you give some more information?,
Is it bad or nothing to worry about?
    I am sooo concerned
    Please help me
    Thank you in advance

    • You are allowed 2 mins to talk and the examiner was offering you the full 2 mins – it has no impact on your score – it is part of the testing system.

  9. Dear Liz,

I’m so happy to see this information for IELTS aspirants.
Thank you from bottom of my heart.
