  1. Hi Liz,

I appeared in GT test on 24th March,2018 in US.
    My score is:
    Overall -8
    Listening-7
    Reading-9
    Writing-7
    Speaking-8

Your lessons were very useful specially advanced lessons .This was my first attempt and I am very happy with my score.
    Thank you so much.

  2. Malvi Shah says:

    Hi Liz,

My husband referred to your lessons and appeared on 24th march from India. He scored as below
    L:8
    R:9
    S:7
    W:6.5

Point is that he gave a month before and had scored 7 in writing previously. He feels he has done better than previous one and is disappointed with writing score. We need 7 in writing for application. Should he go remarking as he doesnot want to appear for another exam

    • Well done to your husband with his score. If he wrote over the word count in both tasks for writing and he also wrote an overview in task 1 with a conclusion in task 2, then it might be possible to consider a remark. There is only 0.5 difference between your speaking and writing scores. However, there is no guarantee that it will be successful, so it is completely your choice πŸ™‚

  3. Prachi Dixit says:

    Hi Liz,

I am from India and appeared for IELTS on 24th March for the 2nd time. I got my score today and I am very happy to share that I have received an overall 8.5 band ☺.

    Listening 9
    Reading 8.5
    Writing 8
    Speaking 7.5

This has been possible only because of you and your wonderful site. All the information and videos have helped me immensely in achieving this score.

In my previous attempt, I wasn’t sure which site to refer to be able to score band 8 and above, so I referred multiple sites and ended up getting overall band 7.5 only, however this time I just concentrated on your website and read all your tips, saw all your videos and practiced.

The way you have organized all the information is not available anywhere else. The material helps a lot in practicing for higher bands. Your lovely smiling face in videos always seemed to motivate me which boosted my confidence.

I would suggest people trying to achieve band 7 and higher to go through all of your tips, videos and practice tests. And also do some practice tests from Cambridge books 9-12 as per your advice and I think that’s enough as one can get all they need here…

I would again like to thank you Liz for all the help you are providing to the world, it’s appreciated more than mere words can convey. Kudos to you..

    Stay healthy..stay blessed..

    -Prachi..

I made this because of you and ur ur blog. Thank you very much Liz for your valuable videos.

    Hi
I gave my exam on 24 march 2018
    Result
    L 9
    R 8.5
    W 7.5
    S 7.5
    Overall 8
My master tip for writing is to follow the structure of the model essays on this website, for each type of essay, whether it be discussion, agree disagree, positive negative development. Practice using these essays only, then enriching ur vocabulary yourself, and getting it checked at least once from a good teacher.

  6. Priyanka says:

    Hi Liz,
I am from India and took my IELTS test on 15march 2018 and I got my results today.
    Overall 7.5
    Listening 7.5
    Reading 7.5
    Writing 7.5
    Speaking 8

And this wouldn’t have been possible without your tips and strategies. You explain in the most simpliest way which is easy to understand. Especially in writing your videos and sample answers have been a great great help.

    Thank u so much!!!

  7. Andrea Montierth says:

    Hi Liz!

I am Andrea Tan-Montierth, a nurse from the Philippines. Would just like to thank you for your blog as it was a big help to me. I am unable to study for very long because of work but using your bandscore models in the website and utilizing your exercises and videos helped me pass my IELTS.

I know I did the best I could for my writing tasks and didn’t think I deserved my score but oh well, maybe it was my handwriting haha!

    Overall: 8.5
    L: 8.0
    R: 9.0
    W: 7.5
    S: 9.0

    Thank you again!

    • It’s a great score !! It’s still good to hit over band 7 in writing. It’s all worth a real celebration πŸ™‚ Well done πŸ™‚

  8. Hi Liz,
I am an IT professional and appeared for GT exam on 3/3 in US.
    My overall score is 8.5
    Listening – 9
    Reading – 9
    Writing – 7.5
    Speaking – 8
I am very happy with my score and would like to thank you for all the useful tips which helped me get a good score with 2 weeks of preparation.

  9. Hi Liz,

I’m a Medical Doctor from Nigeria.
Did IELTS Academic on 10th March 2018.
Had an overall band score of 8.5
    Listening 9
    Reading 9
    Speaking 8
Writing 7 (Although i expected a bit more)

I had barely 2 weeks to prepare so i just focused squarely on your tutorials coupled with practice questions from the Cambridge book like you advised.

Thank you so much Liz, and keep up the good work!

  10. Kimberly says:

    Hi Liz

I am a homemaker in the Caribbean and I needed IELTS GT for immigration purposes. While I only speak English I wanted to tell you thank you for your fantastic site. I got an overall band score of 8.
    R: 9
    S: 8
    L: 8.5
    W: 7

    Personal recommendations:
R: Paraphrasing is a must in reading section. It helps you understand the jist of the passage faster. Also underline key words in the passage which will help with your speed in answering
L: learn how to be an active listener by twiddling your toes; I have a problem zoning out even during the exam and this helped me. Also be aware of tricks, IELTS would often answer a question without explicitly stating the question

Again thank you Liz, without your materials I would’ve definitely scored much lower

    • A very strong score indeed πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your tips – very useful. Many people forget that IELTS listening is an active skill, not passive – well pointed out! So nice to see you come from the Caribbean – I’m sitting here in the cold and dark of England – wish I was there πŸ™‚

  11. Hi liz,
I received my TRF lst week and i’m glad to let you know that i managed to secure an overall band score 8. I am a doctor by profession and i appeared on 3rd march 2018 for the general training module. It was first attempt. My scores are as mentioned below:
    L=8.5
    R=9
    W=7
    S=7
I strictly followed your writing structure and i also watched your advanced lessons.I’d recommend them to everyone who’s planning to sit the ielts exam.
I practised writing lots of essays by timing myself before the test and prepared questions from your recent exam questions page , and also from the cambridge books.
I used to brainstorm ideas , plan my essay and then wrote the whole essay within 40min. After that , i used to read some samples for the same topic , note down the relevant topic vocab from your website and then i used to rewrite the whole essay again by incorporating some ideas and vocab which i had jotted down. I noticed a considerable improvement in my writing once i started practising in this manner. I also used to share my essays in the wats groups i had joined, and people gave me suggesstions on how to improve. Apart from that, whenever i had a query i used to post on your website and your were always there to reply. I’m really thankful to you for it.
For reading and listening i practised from the cambridge books 1 to 12.
For speaking, i practised the cue cards from jan to april given on your blog . Since, i didn’t have a spaking partner, i timed myself and recorded my own vouce. This helped me to develop my frequency.
All the best to those who are appearing on 24th march. A big thankyou to you liz for the wonderful work you are doing for your students. Your blog is a real blessing for all ielts test takers.

    • That’s a great result – well done πŸ™‚ It sounds like you took a logical, strategic approach to the test – that is exactly right. I’ so glad you recorded yourself for speaking – it’s a great way to practise and develop πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your tips πŸ™‚

I am Mechancial Engineer . I thank you very much for all your help and videos ;without your blog it would have been really tough to the results I got .

I prepared for 3 weeks or so . As you mentioned in one of your videos , taking practice tests was really important. I practiced writing essays / letter almost every day . Thank you again !

    • A great score πŸ™‚ Well done πŸ™‚ Yes, I can’t stress enough the importance of doing plenty of practice tests at home (from the IELTS Cambridge test books).

  14. Hye, Liz..I’m from Malaysia.. I just sat for my IELTS on 3rd of March 2018..Glad to inform you that I manage to score 7 point for overall..Your tips are very helpful:)

  15. Hi Liz,

I must say I used your website as the only source of preparation for my IELTS test, as I really needed help to refresh my memory on how such tests are structured. The last English test I had taken before IELTS was the Proficiency of Cambridge, about 13 years ago – time flies, and so does my ability to think like my 14-year old self back then.

    Anyway, here are my results:

    Overall: 9.0
    Listening: 9.0
Reading: 8.5 (I’ve always had a hard time with T/F/Not Given questions, even in my mother language!)
    Speaking: 9.0
    Writing: 9.0

Thank you for the abundance of tips & materials! Greatly appreciated.

    • Let me elaborate on a few more details, as I am sure there will be others identifying with my situation.
My test center was in San Francisco, CA, and I took the academic module.
Given that my English was already at a good level, it took me 5 days to study for the test, while working full-time. Please keep in mind I speak/write in English in my daily life, and had also acquired plenty of English degrees / certifications as a high school student; therefore there was no type of question in IELTS that I had never seen before.

My tips for other individuals in my position are the following:

Listening: Probably the easiest part for all good language users. Your time should mostly be spent identifying the different question styles you might encounter. I took 1 practice test and looked at a couple more.
Reading: Remember that T/F/Not Given questions refer to what the text actually says, not what you think. The rest of the questions should be again very easy to handle for good language users. Again, I mostly spent time looking at question styles, rather than taking tests (only took 2 practice tests, mainly for the T/F/NG questions).
Speaking: My biggest fear was that the few minutes/seconds I had for each answer would not be enough to actually make a point (I talk A LOT). However, the examiner interacted with me to lead the discussion accordingly, which actually made it feel like an every day discussion. Fun fact: she kept me an extra 15 minutes after the recording for an actual conversation! In terms of practicing, I looked at a few topics just to get an idea of what to expect, and then I just let the generic ones (hometown, family, profession etc) brew in my mind the days before the exam. Again, remember I speak English every day, and it does make a difference.
Writing: Of course, the fear for even the greatest language users is time. You might be able to compose your essays very fast, but in my opinion there is a risk of overthinking things, wanting to give more arguments and/or expand on sophisticated ideas the topic might trigger in your brain, which will actually cause you to lose valuable time. On the day of my exam, I met another woman who was an excellent speaker and had been living in the US for years – even had a green card. After the exam, she told me she ran out of time in the Writing section, what a pity! In a nutshell, look at Liz’s sample essays and identify how your ideal structure should be. When developing arguments, I prefer to stick to 2 arguments for each side of the topic, as I am able to expand on each one of them (it was actually impossible for me to stay under 300 words for Writing Task 2). The instructions Liz gives are super clear, just stick to the “approved” recipe! They don’t actually care how much of a thinker you are. Needless to say the Writing section is the one I focused my studying on. I wrote a total of 4 essays for each Writing task (not much more I could do in a week full of work!), and I self-corrected them in terms of how they could be more concise. After writing the first one and seeing I should write less, I studied the model essays provided here and then wrote the rest of my own; the improvement was significant.

Good luck to everyone! Once again, thank you, Liz!

    • Band 9 Overall – Fantastic !!! A great achievement πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing your tips πŸ™‚

  16. Manoj Babu R says:

    Dear Liz,

I took IELTS General in Dubai (for the first time) two weeks before and got my results today.

    Speaking: 7
    Listening: 7.5
    Reading: 7
    Writing: 6

    Overall: 7

I wish to thank you wholeheartedly for your website/videos for the immense support. I didn’t prepare well for the writing test since I was targeting for 7 band each. Anyway, I am positive towards my next attempt and will highly depend on your materials.

I am a chemical engineer, wish to migrate to Canada/Australia and recently started preparing for the exam.

    Tips:

    Speaking
Please practise daily/regularly with your freinds/family members by recording your speech. You can find where you get stuck. Avoid self-corrections, pauses and thinking for the mistakes done.
Be relaxed, watch your breath and stay in the moment! that is the key and will make a difference.

    Listening
I find it easiest part of the exam as I am a movie maniac. Practise with practice tests and listen to real-time news/movies/documentaries/educational stuff. Just move on if you don’t get an answer for a particular question and you can recall/guess something at last. This approach will keep you focused and avoid panic.
Obviously, this section can help you get a higher overall band.

    Reading
I spent more time on easy initial questions and had to rush for questions 30-40. Felt answering the last ten questions first would have helped me. Time management is challenging and practising more will surely improve the band. Sometimes we make assumptions subconsciously and hurry up to confirm the answers. This needs to be avoided. Allotting time to check answers (5 or 10 mins) is essential and ready you for the writing part with the calm mind. The advantage of this section is the break time (to drink water or to go out for the restroom) which you can take. A possible break will keep you relaxed and energetic.

    Writing
I didn’t reach 7 band which was my target. I spent more time on letter writing and rushed for essay writing. Writing the essay first would have increased my band since it has more weightage. Again, allowing time for checking is mandatory. I am going to prepare well and practise more for my next attempt.

All the best for all the aspirants!!
Once again thank you very much Guruji (Liz)!!!

    Best Regards,
    Manoj Babu R

    • Well done πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your experience and tips πŸ™‚ I really like your speaking comment: Be relaxed, watch your breath and stay in the moment! – advice that is good for life itself πŸ™‚

  17. Hi Liz,

    Before I share my score, I would like to highlight that your website is THE BEST source for someone, like me, who need to have all the guidelines and training material at one place. I am a Mechanical Engineer by profession and I took IELTS GT on 3rd March 2018. However, I managed to get 8 band overall, I am a bit disappointed by 7 band in writing as I was expecting 7.5 or more. My score details are as below;

    R: 9.0
    L: 9.0
    W: 7.0
    S :7.5
    Overall: 8

    Reading Tips:
1- For me, Paraphrasing is the KEY. Whenever you are reading a question, you should ALWAYS think about alternate words before looking for your answers.
2- Understand T/F philosophy clearly. It’s not about what you understand, it’s about what the statement is telling so while finding answer, look for the information (mostly paraphrased) not for the sentence.
3- Try to complete Section-1 and 2 early. If practiced well, it can be managed easily in 30-35 minutes. Spare AT LEAST 25 minutes for the last section.
4- For T/F and Blanks, no need to read all question at once because you wouldn’t be able to retain. Read two questions and look for the answers and then move to next questions (two question at a time). This practice helps to save time and you always know if you have missed an answer (because you will find answer for 2nd question).

    Listening Tips:
1- As per my experience, if you know how to use your time wisely at the start and end of each section, you will never feel disengaged with the conversation. I repeat practice using this time WISELY.
2- Section 1/2 are the easiest.
3- Section 3 (specially MCQs): Don’t fall to same words mentioned in answer options (they are usually traps). Focus on the following two things and you will find all the answers.
    A- Alternate words for answers
B Complex Sentences specially where the entire meaning is changed if you miss words such as Although, However, Though, Despite, Nonetheless.
4- Section 4: Always make sure that you have understood all the questions clearly (it’s crucial to read all the questions before it started)
5- Usually statement follows the answer so you need to be a proactive listener.
6- ALWAYS have a look at the next question.

    Thanks
    Bilal

    • Very well done with your scores πŸ™‚ Your listening and reading tips are great – thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  18. I got an overall band 8.5 πŸ™‚
    Listening: 9.0
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 7.0
    Speaking: 8.5

All credit goes to you Liz for the beneficial tips and tricks. I recommend your blog and videos to everyone. This was my first attempt and I wasn’t hoping it would turn out this well. You are doing an amazing job Liz. Thank you so much for everything! God bless you πŸ™‚

  19. Tim Smith says:

    Dear Liz,

I hope you are enjoying your holiday? I wanted to take the time to thank you for helping me with my exam. I am from the UK and I needed a strong score for my professional registration in New Zealand.
I work as a Critical Care Nurse, so fitting the time into revise was difficult. I spent many a-night shift revising on break. I spent about 3 months going over the test, with the final month revising during my days off. Many people on the examination day felt I might have over prepared, but this is nonsense. If you want results, you need to put the work in.

I used your videos and website, including official IELTS booklets to revise and acheived the following scores:

    Overall Band: 8.5
    Listening: 9.0
Reading: 7.5 [T/F/NG and Y/N/NG were the most difficult]
    Writing: 8.0
    Speaking: 9.0

I would say my overall advice to candidates is to ‘play the game’ and prepare thoroughly. Remember, IELTS are not judging you against other candidates. What you put on paper, is what they mark.

Thank you again for your help. If you are ever in New Zealand, hit me up for a beer, I owe you!

    Yours sincerely

    Tim

    • Brilliant score !! I’m really impressed, particularly with band 8 in writing and band 9 in speaking πŸ™‚ I completely agree – people need to do the work if they want results. A coffee sounds great if I go back to NZ πŸ™‚

  20. Hello Liz,

I took the test on 3rd March 2018. The results were declared today.

I got an overall score band of 8.5
    Reading – 8.5
    Listening – 8
    Writing – 8
    Speaking – 9

Your site was of immense help. I went through your videos and picked up the tips provided. I also took a lot of practice tests before the exam. I worked on the weak areas and through your lessons improved on them.

    A BIG thank you !!!

    Keep posting and encouraging students.

  21. Hey Liz!

I studied for about a month and these were my results:
    Reading – 9
    Listening – 9
    Speaking – 7.5
    Writing – 6.5

Very disappointed with my writing. This was the task that I best prepared for. I did Cambridge books 10, 11, 12 and did several more writing tasks from your blog and other websites. I even did all of January and February 2018 writing tasks. After doing the exam, I thought I did very well and I expected at least a 7 or 7.5 in writing but I guess not… I know I don’t need the score right now, as I only needed 6.5 overall, but who knows if in a year or so I’ll need at least 7 in all tasks to do my thesis abroad… But oh well.

Thank you so much for all your help and I hope you get well soon πŸ™‚ Your website is amaaazing! I prepared all the speaking topics from January and February and everything I got asked I had already read in this website. πŸ˜€ Totally recommend!

    • Forgot to add that I had scored 9 in pretty much all the listening and reading tasks from the 3 Cambridge books so I wasn’t very surprised to score them on the actual exam πŸ™‚ but very proud anyways! Greetings from Portugal πŸ™‚

    • Fantastic listening and reading scores – well done πŸ™‚ Hopefully you will be able to pull your writing score up. Make sure you spend time identifying areas that you need to work on πŸ™‚

  22. Hi
Thank you for your exam tips.
I got 7 band overall on academic today 16th March. I did exam on 3rd March.
    Reading – 7
    Listening – 8
    Speaking – 7.5
    Writing – 5.5

I was disappointed with writing score, though I believed I did well in this part. Second part question was to plastic shopping bags should be banned. Do you agree / disagree. To what extent.
In introduction, I wrote I agree and I wrote two sides (advantages and disadvantages of shopping bags) in body paragraphs. That would have made impact on my score.
First part was to discuss two graphs in 2008, I wrote it in past tense.
Do you have any idea, behind this huge drop in writing band?

    Thank you

  23. Hey Liz

I am working as an IT analyst and I did IELTS Academic test in march to pursue for postgraduate studies abroad. I just got my results today.
    Overall-8
    Listening-8.5
    Reading-9
    Writing-7
    Speaking-6.5

I did not go for any coaching other than what I got from your website. I prepared for a month before the test referring your site and doing sample questions. It is a wonderful site for all the IELTS aspirants out there. Thank you Liz for all your efforts.

  24. Kapish Joshi says:

    Hi Liz,
First of all Thanks a ton for putting up such a resourceful blog. I took the GT test on 3rd March and my results are just in. Here are bands –
    L – 8, R – 9, S – 7.5, W – 7; Overall – 8.
Though, this is the first time I am sharing my result, I had achieved similar feat in October last year with Academic module. Your blog contributed majority of my preparations on both the occasions.
Thanks a lot again. Last but least, not only you are helping people with IELTS, you are helping them achieve their dreams. Truly amazing work. If I can help in anyway in continuing this work, I’ll be more than happy.

    • A very strong score – band 8 is great πŸ™‚ I’m so glad my website was useful to you πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to let me know your profession.

      • Kapish Joshi says:

I own a construction business. Sorry about mistakes in my post. Should’ve proof read it before posting. I was a bit too excited earlier. Must’ve been careful writing to my teacher!

After taking your advanced writing lessons i have hit my target score.

    L-7.5, R-7,S-7,W-7

Thank you so much for the detailed explanations on writing task 2.
    You are simply great teacher.

Hi Liz, thank you for all the resoruces you have provided! I got an overall score of 8.5 and I loved your tips and techniques. Here arey detailed scores:
    Listening: 9
    Reading: 9
    Writing: 7.5
    Speaking: 8.5

I will also send you an email on how I prepared.

    • Excellent score πŸ™‚ Well done πŸ™‚ Students will enjoy reading tips πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to mention your profession.

      • Japjeet Duggal says:

Certainly! Just waiting for the transcripts πŸ™‚ thank you again. I also forgot to mention, I gave general test and I am an IT professional. Another thing, my husband also took the exam with me and this was his second time. The first time he got a scroe of 6.5 overall and this time he practiced using your material and got a 7.5!!!

  27. Hi Liz,

When I took the exam first time I didn’t refer much material and got L-9, R-9, S-8 but W-6.5. Then I went through your material and it really directed me on how the essay should be structured and how the points should be argued, what words would be appropriate and what wouldn’t be, the range of tenses to be used and many more pointers which I hadn’t considered at all. This time got
    Reading – 8.5
    Listening – 9
    Speaking – 7.5
    Writing – 7.5

which is what I need for my requirement. Thanks for the great effort you have put in to guide us in the correct way of doing the exams.

    • Very well done πŸ™‚ It can be surprising to people how much there is a consider in writing an IELTS essay. I’m currently writing a Grammar List E-book for IELTS – hopefully that will help people as well. Don’t forget to let me know your profession.

  28. Hi Liz, I wanna thank you for your help as your website was quite beneficial for me

    Overall 7.5
Good luck for all ielts candidates

        Hello Liz 😊
I took the IELTS on the 3rd of March 2018 and I obtained the following results:
        Overall 8.5
        Speaking 8.5
        Listening 8.5
        Reading 8.5
        Writing 7.5
I am an aspiring undergraduate student from India. I want to pursue a degree in History in Ireland and hence I had taken up the test. Since it was the first time for me, I was extremely nervous. It was especially exhausting during the LRW section of the test. It was almost as if it was a test of endurance rather than that of English!😁
I was taken aback by my results as I didn’t expect to do too well. Nonetheless I’m very pleased with the outcome.
I couldn’t have achieved this band score without your help and guidance!!!
Your online tutorials and videos were life-saving!!!
        God bless you Liz!!!πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡

        • Very well done πŸ™‚ You’ve got a good point – the IELTS LRW test is long and does require a reserve of energy πŸ™‚

  29. Hi Liz,
I am a student of veterinary medicine and I appeared for IELTS exam on 10th February.
    I got overall band 8.
    Reading 9
    Listening 8.5
    Speaking 8
    Writing 6.5

I prepared only for a week before the exam. I can’t thank you enough for the help I received from your website. Your tips are easy to understand and concise. I really like how your website explains every topic to the point and supplies only the necessary information and tips rather than giving tons of subject matter to go through.

And you are a really sweet person
    Thank you so much 😊

  31. Hello Liz, I wrote UKVI academic IELTS in Nigeria on the 24th of February, 2017 and just got my test results today.
    Overall: 8.0
    Listening: 9.0
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 7.0

I am a doctor intending to migrate to the UK to specialize in surgery.
I followed all your instructions and advice almost 100% and I’m very grateful for your time and dedication to making people pass

  32. I’m a medical doctor and I took the ielts test on 24th Feb in Abuja, Nigeria. This was my first attempt.
    Overall- 8.5
    Listening- 9.0
    Reading- 8.5
    Writing- 8.0
    Speaking- 7.5

I was really flustered during my speaking test and spoke under one minute in part two, I had to be prompted by the examiner to speak further. If I’d been a bit more relaxed, I’m certain I would have done better in the speaking. Overall, I’m satisfied with my results because I needed a minimum of 7 8′ each band.

I studied on ieltsliz for about a week and watched her YouTube videos to prepare for the test. The resources on this site really helped me, especially with writing and pretty much all of the speaking tests can be found here so it just takes practice. (I read a lot, I used to be a teacher and I do some creative writing- so my preparation was mostly to help me understand the test format and to practice) Thank you Liz!

    • Overall 8.5 is an excellent score and one to be proud of – well done πŸ™‚ Glad my website was useful πŸ™‚

  33. Hello Liz,

Thank you so very much for all the lessons on this website. It was very helpful to learn.

I had prepared just for 10 days. Earlier I had taken TOEFL exam and ended up with 86/120 score. Initially, I was nervous while preparing for this IELTS test but this website gave me enough confidence on the exam day to get a satisfying score.

    Thank you once again.

    Regards.

  34. Hi Liz,

Thanks a lot for constructing this website! I was pretty lost when I was doing the exercises until I find your website a week before my exam. I got my result this morning and I scored:

    W- 7.0
    S- 7.5

I’m working as an Analyst/Research in Mumbai, India.

First would like to thank you for your material and the content. I am okay with the score except the speaking where I though I’d get 8 or even more; rest I scored as per my expectations.

I need to buck up in listening since I have scored 7.0 in my last attempt ( this was my second attempt) and need atleast 8.0 in listening. Will continue with your content.

    Regards,
    Rohit

    • Well done with your results πŸ™‚ You need to tackle listening in a strategic way. Each time you do a practice test, think deeply about the reason why you got a particular answer wrong. Is it vocab? Paraphrasing? Key words? Concentration? Overload of information on the recording? Technique? Try to find the problem and I’m sure your listening score will improve. Also start immersing yourself in listening to English – see BBC videos, Smithsonian videos, travel videos – listen to videos and audios for all topics πŸ™‚ Good luck πŸ™‚

    Dear Liz,

I’m a Software Developer, living in Dallas, TX. Gave IELTS GT on 10th Feb, 2018. My scores are as below:
    L – 8, R – 8.5, W – 7, S – 8. Overall – 8

I prepared for a month through different sources including your videos on youtube and unfortunately landed on your website only on the last day. Biggest mistake becasue while I was going through it, I realized this should have been my first reference for preparation.

Anyway, I’m ok with the results given the time I spent. My only grudge is with the writing where I believe I could have done better but may have missed out on the oppurtunity because of grammatical errors.

Thanks a lot for your tutorials and videos. They are the best material available on the internet. And let me tell you, when I was talking to few candidates at the center, they all were referring to your website. So I know you are the best.

    Regards,
    Anubhav

    • Very well done with your result πŸ™‚ Although your writing isn’t as you wished, it’s still very good indeed – not many students can hit band 7 πŸ™‚ I’m so glad you found my site and that it was useful for you. Thanks for your support πŸ™‚

  37. Dhanshri says:

Thank you Liz for your valuable videos and fabulous tips/material. It really helped me and my husband to prepare for the GT IELTS module (held on Jan 20th, 2018 in Singapore). We are experienced IT professionals.

My husband scored overall 7.5 and I scored 8 (but I got 8.5 in 3 modules but missed on Writing module 6.5 only). I had put Writing for remark but the result was no-change. I am really disappointed as I thought it was good enough for a 7.

We followed your website everyday when we prepared for the exam.
We thank you again for your generous help!!! πŸ™‚

    • Well done to both you and your husband πŸ™‚ Shame about your writing score – it’s not easy hitting that band 7. Anyway, it’s an overall great result πŸ™‚

  38. Hey Liz,

We couldn’t thank you enough for all the tips you posted here in your website. It certainly helped me and my husband get Band 8 and Band 8.5 respectively for GT module. We used your website as our primary review material for the exam.

From the bottom of our heart, thank you again and truly enough we couldn’t forget this experience. We hope that you touch more lives as you continue to share knowledge to the rest of the IELTS aspirants.

Thank you again and God bless.

    • I’m really pleased that you both got such great scores – well done πŸ™‚ Glad you found my site πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to let me know your professions.

  39. Hi Liz,

    You are one amazing person.
With your useful resources, I was able to hit the following score

    R-8
    L-8
    S-7
    W-7

I am a software engineer from Mumbai and mother to a 10 month old princess. In effect, time was always a constraint.
I followed all your reading, writing, listening and speaking resources and with 2nd attempt, I could get the target band score needed for immigration.I had a band 7.5 in my last attempt and needed 8 in listening.

Reading – I realised, I should find answers directly to questions and read only that concerned part of text in a passage. Some other tips that I followed,T/F/NG to attempt
at the last, when you know the passage quite well.Underline options in the matching headings as well, so that you scan it quickly everytime you go through them. This ensured that I had enough time and so in my both attempts I got 8

Listening – I am a bad listener and sometimes when people speak a lot, I tend to ignore what they are saying :).My this habit cost me 2 ielts atempts. In effect, listening is more of concentration, one cannot lose focus.I gave almost 9-10 listening tests on cambridge ielts online material. Also one needs to go through list of compound words.

Writing- I am glad I followed your recent ielts questions before going to exam venue and bang on, I hit the jackpot :).In the meantime they give you answer sheets, I counted the lines and accordingly decided the length of the essay.Though this time I scored 0.5 less, and I dont know why πŸ™‚

Speaking-Again, your recent ielts exam question hit the jackpot for me.

Hey Liz, I cannot thank you enough.Wishing you the best of health and keep up the great work.

  40. Dear Liz,
Firstly i would like to thank you for taking time out and posting the videos and tips and study materials for IELTS. You are doing a great job. I am a Licensed Practical Nurse in Ontario, took Academic IELTS on 10 Feb, 2018 for further studies.
    Received my result today,
    Overall Band: 8
    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 7.5
    Writing: 7
    Speaking: 8
I just had week for Preparation and all i referred to was your videos and the tips. i am
planning on taking ielts general training, for immigration , by the end of march. Hope to score 8 or 8.5 in each module. Thank you once again.

  41. Hi Liz,
I am an IT professional from Bangalore.I had only a week’s time to prepare for the Ielts test and my speaking test was before the LWR test in the middle of the week.I received my scores today which is given below:
    Overall: 7.5
    L: 8 ( as expected)
W: 7 ( slightly disappointed here but I know my mistakes are not keeping track of time and not discussing both parts of the topic since i was given a discussion topic, that might have got me an average score. Also I didn’t count my words.)
S: 8 ( as expected , I got little nervous and my voice was shaky although the examiner was a very calm lady and pleasant to talk to)
R: 6.5 ( SHOCKING, πŸ™ I never expected this score since I had practised this section and was confident of an 8 or above score.)

Liz, could you please be kind enough to suggest me the next step, should i go for a reval for reading section especially or retake the test as I am targeting a score of 8.5-9.Has it helped people in the past to get the score reevaluated?

I would like to thank you from the core of my heart that even the 7.5 score in 5 days was not possible without your website. Its so well organized ,has such a vast content and of course your ever-smiling face πŸ™‚ Its a boon ! Keep up the great work .Thank you so much !

    Regards,
    TP

    • You’ve done very well. Shame about your reading. It is rare that a reading score changes after remarking. This is because the scores are based on right or wrong answers, not human interpretation. However, it is your choice. If you usually get band 7 plus in practice tests at home, then it is a good sign that a new test will be more successful. Also review your writing and make sure you are using the right techniques. Good luck πŸ™‚

  42. Hi Liz,

I took GT IELTS in Portland city on Feb 10, 2018 and got the results today.

    Overall – 8.5
    Listening – 8.5
    Reading – 9
    Writing – 8
    Speaking – 8

I prepared for around 10-12 days, mostly I watched your videos on YouTube for tips. I practiced using Cambridge IELTS 10 and 11. I think without your tips, I would have not scored high. Thank you very much for helping millions of people like me who didn’t have any coaching.

  43. Dhanalakshmi Hanumayya says:

Hi Liz, thank you for the lessons :). Your videos were one of my sources for preparation.
Overall 8 (IELTS general test on February 10 2018)
    Listening 8
    Reading 8.5
    Writing 7.5
    Speaking 8

    What I learnt:
Listening needs full attention during the exam, be attentive even if you miss any information. Thinking of what missed in the past will reduce the score even more as you cannot concentrate on the audio.
Reading needs good practice on scanning and trimming which helps a lot in time management. Don’t get scared by the length of passage or paragraph. They are fairly simple and straight forward questions. Attentive reading is what that is required.
Practice writing essays and letters. Proof reading at the end is important to correct minor errors.
While speaking try to use good vocabulary, but don’t pause a lot in search of good vocabulary. Keep talking fluently while answering questions. Try to connect with the examiner with good eye contact and expressions which makes effective communication.

    • Well done and thanks for sharing your tips πŸ™‚ I fully agree about the need to keep speaking in the speaking test – fluency is essential.

  44. Hello Liz,

I took my GT IELTS test on Feb 10th in Kansas City and here are my scores.
    Listening – 8.5
    Reading – 9
    Writing – 8.5
    Speaking – 7

I work as a Business Analyst in Chicago.

While I did very limited preparation for about 3-4 days, all that I referred to was you site and all the tips you’ve provided for each section. Your content was crisp and concise and that helped me get an overall idea of what’s expected for this exam. Also, I believe if someone is comfortable with day-to-day english and attempt the exam confidently, you always have a shot at the score you need. Although I was skeptical about scoring this much in Listening after my exam, I’ve got more than what I expected.

Thanks again for all the amazing resources/work you’re doing.

    • A very good score indeed! Very well done getting band 8.5 in writing πŸ™‚ I’m glad you found my site πŸ™‚

        L:9 W:8 S:7.5 R:7
The reason my reading is too low is I started with the last passage and it took too much of my time. That was totally my fault. Anyway, I do not need to take the test again. I am so grateful for your videos and support and help. I couldn’t do it with you. This is my first time to take the test.
        Thank you.

Hi, this is Laila from Bangladesh. With a rewarding career spanning over 8 years at MNCs and INGOs, I am currently pursuing Masters in Media and Communication with concentration in Journalism.

I have had only a month to prepare for my IELTS that took place on January 20, 2018. With very limited time to practice, I couldn’t afford to spend hours on slow-paced tutorials or volumes of books on developing my skills. So I had to search for experienced educators who knew how to get their message across efficiently. And Liz’s website was one of those few places where I could get reliable and quality resources. It helped me a great deal. So thank you so much, dear Liz. May you be rewarded for your good deeds. With such timely guidance and by His ample grace and blessings, I gave an exam that was beyond my own capacity and the result was more than I could hope for. Yeah, I could complain about my low score in writing but I rather be grateful for what I accomplished instead of thinking about what I didn’t achieve.

Thanks a tonn Dear Liz. Respect to u!

  64. Hi Liz,

First of all I would like to thank you for putting up such great IELTS learning material on web. Its by far the best all over web, you are awesome.

I got my IELTS results yesterday.
    L – 7, R – 7, W – 7.7, S – 7

I am really happy about this score but I need to improve my listening score, its really important for me.

I am just curious what could have affected my listening score.

What if I write CUSTOMER(S) as answer instead of CUSTOMERS
    OR
    A VENDOR instead of VENDOR.

I really think this is affecting my listening score.

    Please help me out here.

    • Well done with your score πŸ™‚ You can’t use brackets in IELTS listening. You must choose your answer. Also you must decide if the answer requires articles “a” or “the” or not. If you must complete a sentence, you need to pay attention to grammar. If you must complete notes, you don’t. Examples are often given so you can see the general format of the answers.

  65. Test Date: 20 Jan 2018, Boston
    Role: Product Manager (IT)
    Overall Band: 8
    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 9
    Writing: 7
    Speaking: 8

Thanks Liz for all the guidance.

  66. Jingzhong says:

    Dear Liz,

I want to say BIG thank you to you for all your great lessons! You helped me get the score I need and improve my writing competency. I read your speaking and writing parts before I took the first exam in Nov. and got 8.5 for speaking listening and reading but only 6.5 in writing. Almost all my speaking topics were from your list of speaking topics! Great sharing! Then I spent all my time on writing part and eventually got 7 in my second attempt in Jan. This is what I did differently to prepare the writing part
    1) bought your writing test 2 advanced lessons and read the notes and samples many times!
    2) print out your sample essays for task 1 and read many times! Actually my test essay is very similar to the one with a table and two pie charts ( US fish import).
    3) practice, Practice and practice! For task one, follow your sentence structures for line, bar, table, map, pie…once I was familiar with it, it took me less than 20 mins to complete the writing; for task two, I applied your suggested essay structures and made the essay easy to follow and make topic senses of each paragraph very very clear! I think this helps achieve the 0.5 point I need in writing. I didn’t use any β€œadvanced” words in writing and I even forgot writing β€œ in my opinion, I think…” to express my view in the β€œoutweigh” question πŸ™‚ I was surprised but happy to see β€œ7”.

Thank you and all the best!
    Jingzhong

    • I’m so pleased your writing score improved and you finally hit band 7 πŸ™‚ Well done πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your tips. Don’t forget to let me know your profession πŸ™‚

      • Jingzhong says:

I was a consultant and business development profession is the past 20 years and recently moved to New Zealand. I am planning to become a school teacher, a dream from childhood. You are my role model!

I wish you get better soon!

  67. Hi, I am Yetunde.
Here’s my result on first attempt
    speaking 7.5
    writing 7.0
    listening 7.5
    reading 7.0
    overall band is 7.5

Honestly i am a bit disappointed because i need more for the immigration purpose. i really need help on improving my reading and listening categories. kindly help!!! Thanks Liz

    • i just came across your blog Liz when I posted the above result, your teachings should help me improve my score, as I have started to study and practice intensely on your blog. i have started observiing my mistakes. Thanks liz.

    • It’s a good score for your first attempt. The more you learn about the test and you get used to how the questions are written, the better. Good luck in your next test πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to post your profession.

  68. Hi Liz,
Thank you so much for all the help I got from your website including the advanced lessons which were very helpful.
I’m a dentist and I got these scores on my first attempt :
    Listening 8
    Reading 8
    Speaking 7
    Writing 6
For listening and reading, I realized that knowing the type of word to look for was essential to get a high score.
For speaking, I believe that the overall communication with the examiner is what really matters. We understood each other very clearly.
As for writing, I ran out of time and could neither finish the second paragraph nor reach the word limit. I took your advice on never to leave an essay without a conclusion, and I think I wouldn’t have got a band 6 if I hadn’t done so.

    Thank you Liz very much.

    • Well done πŸ™‚ Time management is such an important thing in IELTS writing. You did well to get a strong overall score πŸ™‚

  69. Vipin Kirthane says:

    Hi,
Thank you so much for your lessons Liz. I got:
    Reading – 7.5
    Speaking – 7
    Writing – 7 (after EOR, before 6.5)
    Listening – 8.5
    Overall – 7.5

I would like to donate some money, can you please point me in the right direction.

    • Very well done with your results πŸ™‚ Glad to see your remark was a success πŸ™‚ Here is a link to a donation page: http://ieltsliz.com/donation-page/. I’ve only set it up today, so let me know if there are any problems with it. Thanks for your support πŸ™‚

      • Vipin Kirthane says:

I wired the money. And by the way I am working as an Electronics Engineer and just got 447 points for Canadian express entry draw, which hopefully will allow me to get an invitation to apply soon. Its people like you the world needs, thank you very much for your help.

        Tips:
        1. I got a 0.5 from EOR (Enquiry On Result), so always give it a go, you may never know.
        2. READING: Don’t go with your guts when it comes to True or False, there will always be 1 or 2 questions which will be tricky and easy to make mistakes.
        3. LISTENING: you CANNOT lose focus even for a second when the audio is played, every second might cost you an answer each.

Good luck, by the way i got this score in the fourth attempt, so keep trying you will eventually win.

        Thanks a lot Liz!!!

        • So kind of you. I’ve just emailed you personally. Thanks for sharing your tips as well πŸ™‚

        • Hi Vipin,
Can I ask you how long did it take for the EOR results to arrive? I’m in the same situation you were and just sent an EOR on the writing (got a 6.5 but need a 7).

  70. Hey Liz!
First of all, thank you so much for such a great platform that you’ve provided for non-native English speakers just like me πŸ˜ŠπŸ™. I took my ielts exam on january 20th, 2018 and I got 7.5 band overall(R:8 L:8 S:7.5 W:6.5).
Is my overall score considered as a decent one ?And is it worth it to object to my writing score ?

    • Well done πŸ˜‰ It is possible to consider a remark if your word count was enough and you wrote an overview in task 1 with a conclusion in task 2. But there is no guarantees it will be successful. It’s a choice you must make alone πŸ™‚ Band 7.5 is a strong score. However, you need to find out if it is enough for your future plans.

  71. Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 9.0
    Writing: 7.5
    Speaking: 8.0

    This was my third attempt

  72. Hi Liz,
I’m an IT professional and took IELTS GT on Jan 20th in USA.
    L8.5
    R9.0
    W7.0
    S7.5
Considering it was my first attempt with only couple of weeks of prep, I’m pretty happy with the scores. I found all your YouTube videos and posts very helpful. You are simply awesome! Your exam tips are spot on and a must read for every IELTS aspirant.

  73. Dear Liz

I want to appreciate God for causing me to encounter your site. I saw it just 3 days to my test and I was already wondering what the test would look like. I wasn’t very confident by then.

The few videos I saw exuded mastery and confidence as well as composure which I needed to take my IELTS. I wish I met you long ago. I also had 3 days to prepare due to my workload. I am a System Analyst and a very busy one.

I was eager to check my unofficial result after my test on 20th Jan, 2018 in Enugu, Nigeria. I got my results yesterday.

    Overall – 7.5
    Reading – 6.5
    Writing – 7
    Speaking – 7.5
    Listening – 8

That was my first time of taking IELTS.

Liz, you’re a great teacher. You’re very selfless. May God keep you in excellent health and state of mind to keep up the good work to humanity that you’re already involved in doing.

To all test takers, I recommend all Liz materials for your desired band. Practice a lot, aim high, focus, rest before the test day and concentrate while taking your test.

Liz, a BIG THANKS FROM MY HEART.

    God bless you loads!

    • How is your health Liz.?

      • Not great, but I’m hoping this year will see me getting better and better πŸ™‚ I’m really keen to continue making videos πŸ™‚

    • I’m so pleased to see your score – well done πŸ™‚ With a busy schedule, you obviously managed your preparation time very well. I’m so very pleased you found my site πŸ™‚

  76. Hi Liz,
I had my General IELTS exam on January 20th, 2018. My center was in Chicago. I am an IT professional and have a full time job. I also have 2 small kids at home. So finding time to prepare for the exam was really tough. On top of that, I had only about a month’s time to prepare. Your site was really helpful in preparing for writing and speaking tasks. Your tips on how to collect ideas and to improve the vocabulary helped me in achieving my current scores. Thank you so very much!
    My scores are as follows:
    Overall: 8
    Listening: 8
    Reading : 9
    Writing: 7.5
    Speaking: 7.5

    My questions for writing were:
WT1: Write a letter to you friend who has decided to move to your hometown answering the questions your friend asked about
    – the housing facilities for family
    – schools in your home town
    – how to meet new people in th e community
WT2: In certain countries, people are buying more and more products because there is more money available than in the past to spend. Is this a positive or negative development?
ST1 : Where are you from?
What do you like most about your home town?
Has your hometown changed a lot from the time you were a kid?
How was your first day in high school?
Which teacher did you like the most in high school and why?
Did you like studying science while you were in school?
    How do you check time?
Are you concerned about being late to some place?
What do you do when you are waiting for someone?
Do you think you will be judged if you are late for a meeting?

ST2: Explain about the science classes that you attended in your high school
ST3: Do you think the government should regulate the science researches held by private organizations / people?
Why do you think govt want to regulate the researches that are not hazardous to the community?
Are people interested in learning science in your country?
Have you ever applied the science that you have learnt in your college / school in your daily life?

  77. Hello Liz,
I got my result today only, I gave IELTS Academics on Jan 20, 2018, I am a media professional, I got 7.5 band overall.

    Speaking 7
    Reading 7
    Writing 7
    Listening 8

I have done most of my preparation from your website only, I regret not finding it well ahead of time.
Although, I am happy with my result but what should be my score to get an overall 8 band.
The reason why I’m asking is another friend of mine got 7 band overall with following breakup: S: 7, L: 7.5, R: 7, W: 6. How come the difference of 1.5 points in our results has gained me .5 points only?
Many thanks in advance, you are doing a fantastic job! I have recommended your website to many of my friends.

  78. Hi Liz
I took the IELTS academic version on January 20th, at Toronto, Canada. I am a doctor by profession.
I got an overall score of 8.5
    Listening: 9
    Reading: 9

I must mention that my ONLY source for preparation was your website Liz. I say this to all the students preparing for IELTS that there is a ton of information on this website, and all of it is free of cost. Liz is doing an amazing and kind thing for us students and let us make the best use of that. Thanks a ton Liz and hope you feel better after your vacation

    • Well done with your results – I hope you are pleased with them πŸ™‚ So glad my lessons were useful to you πŸ™‚

  79. Hi Liz πŸ™‚
I’m a geneticist and I’m applying for master studies in europe
    my overall band was 7.0
    reading: 8,5
    listening: 7.0
    writing: 7.5
    speaking: 6.0

Speaking band was quite low, but it was due my nervousness and anxiety, and the questions were about the topic that I’m not so familiar with.
However, I’m satisfied with my results and I want to thank you for everything, your lessons were extremely helpful and easy to understand.

    You are the best πŸ™‚

    • It’s a strong score πŸ™‚ And if it is enough to go forward, then it’s great πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  83. Hi Liz!

My test was taken on Jan 20th, 2018 in SΓ£o Paulo – Brazil. I just checked my results online and I got an 8 overall! I couldn’t be happier!

    O: 8
    L: 9
    R: 8.5
    W: 7
    S: 7.5

I took the General Training module and I am a Project Consultant.

Thanks for all the info you share here, Liz!

  84. Damilola Fadele says:

    I just got my test result today. I am an Electrical Engineer and this was my first IELTS attempt. My scores are;

    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 9.0
    Writing: 7.0
    Speaking: 8.0

I am overwhelmed at the moment. Thanks Liz for your help. Your website was my go to resource for preparation. Actually, I had attempted the CELPIP (Canadian equivalent) exam twice, but always fell short with my speaking. I decided to try IELTS because the speaking portion is done with a person rather than speaking to a computer as was the case with CELPIP. I am glad I took that decision.

    Thanks again.

    • I’m really pleased to hear your results – well done πŸ™‚ Yes, I agree that IELTS is a better test. It’s very unnatural to speak to a computer and I think IELTS made a wise choice making sure that the speaking is face to face with an examiner. My only wish is that they put cameras in the rooms to record the speaking test so they can monitor examiners behaviour more closely.

  85. Dear Liz,

today I got the results, band 8 overall.
I’m not completely satisfied, because I scored low in Speaking and Writing part of the exam. I’m not sure whether it’s possible to improve significantly within a month to take the test again. I needed a minimum score of 8.5 overall for the job I was planning to apply for.

    My results were:

    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 9.0
    Writing: 7.0
    Speaking: 7.5
    ————-
    Overall: 8.0

    • It is certainly possible to improve in one month, if your English is good enough for a higher score. But it will depend on your ability to understand more about what is needed for a higher score and where you are going wrong. See my advanced lessons if you need extra training with writing task 2: http://subscriptions.viddler.com/IELTSLizStore

  86. Hi Mam,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for being such a wonderful teacher.
I gave my IELTS General exam in the USA on 20th January 2018.
My results were out on 1st February 2018.

I scored an overall band of 8 on my first attempt.
    Listening – 8
    Reading – 8
    Writing – 7
    Speaking – 8

The credit goes to you, mam.
I am inspired and absolutely love your unique way of teaching.
I totally admire the way you teach IELTS generously without taking a penny.
I followed only your blog, videos, paid advanced lessons for 2 weeks and
    I achieved my target score.
A perfect definition of “IELTS” is “LIZ”.

May Lord give you the best of best in life.
Please keep up the selfless terrific work.

  87. Liz,

Thanks for your efforts in running this website and helping students like me.
I did purchase your writing task 2 videos. I used same structure that you provided and it resulted in 7.5.
I gave my exam on 20th Jan 2018 and I am a software developer.
    I scored L 8.5 R 6.5 W 7.5 S 7.5
I am disappointed with my reading score. I was pretty confident after the exam that i would score 8 bands. I do not know what caused this low score.

    Is it worth remarking??

    • Well done with your scores πŸ™‚ It is highly unlikely that your reading score will alter because answers are either right or wrong – they are not based on human interpretation. Of course, I don’t say it’s impossible, so the choice is yours.

  88. Hi Liz, I just got my test result back today for the Jan 20 GT test. I still couldn’t believe that I got a 8.5 overall score. This is my first time taking IELTS and I had just three weeks to study while working at the same time. Your website was the only resources I used for my study. I cannot thank you enough! Writing has always been my weakness and I benefited the most from your Advanced Writing courses. Thank you!

    Overall: 8.5
    Listening: 9
    Reading: 9
    Writing: 7.5
    Speaking: 7.5

    • A great result!! Very well done getting overall band 8.5!! You should be very proud to achieve that score in such a short space of time πŸ™‚ I’m so pleased to hear how much my lessons helped – and my advanced lessons πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to mention your profession πŸ™‚

      • Hi Liz, I am a financial analyst. Thanks again for your efforts in putting up this website and sharing the knowledge! I will definitely recommend your webiste to anyone I know who is going to take IETLS.

    Listening: 8.5

    Writing: 7.0
    Speaking: 8.0
    Overall: 7.5

    Many thanks

    Mahboob A.

    • Well done with your results πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to mention your profession.

      • Mahboob A says:

I am a Software Engineer by profession.
I want to ask a quick question from you please. My country of nationality is Pakistan and country of residence is United Kingdom, I received my IELTS test report today and International House London has written United Kingdom as my country of Nationality instread Pakistan. Is it possible if you can please guide me how can i get this changed? have you ever come across such issue, i am worried about this actually.
i would really appreciate your help!
        Many thanks

        • I think you should do two things. 1) Contact International House London and tell them the mistake – ask them to fix it. This is their problem to fix. 2) Also check with IELTS that certificates can be re-printed if personal details have been incorrectly registered. Try to do both and then you will feel more comfortable knowing your rights πŸ™‚

          • Mahboob A says:

Thank you for you quick response liz.
I took my exam on 16 Dec 2017 as well and Country of nationality is correct there.
Should i send them that cirtificate too?
I am bit confuse, is International house issue the IELTS report? or do i have to ask IELTS seperately. IHLondon and IELTS are seperate bodies? if IELTS don’t issue new Report I would be in deep trouble then πŸ™

            • I do not know who processed your personal details. Did you give the wrong details to IH? Did IH give the wrong details to IELTS? I don’t know. Contact them both and talk to them. Of course they are separate companies. IELTS is a testing company and IH is a school. Don’t try to predict until you have spoken to both to find out who will fix the problem for you.

              • Mahboob A says:

Thank you so very much Liz πŸ™‚

                • Hi Liz,
I called my Test Centre about the mistake in the country of nationality. Actually, it was me who entered country of nationality wrong. IHL asked me to send my original TRF back to them and pay Β£20 as a fees. Then they sennt me a replacement within 2 days.
thank you so much for the help πŸ™‚ you are a star!

Hi Liz. Thank you so much for your guidance and sharing on your website and all the videos. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I signed up for IELTS 20 days before the exam and started preparation only then during my time off work.

But with your materials here I have managed an overall 8.0 on my first try.😊 Could’ve done better I think but I am grateful as I didn’t have much time to prepare and was the format was totally foreign to me. Thanks again Liz! Highly recommended website for anyone who wants to score!

    • A great score in just one month – hats off to you πŸ™‚ Don’t forget to let me know your profession πŸ™‚

      • Lily Soon says:

Oops. I missed the profession part. I’m a general dental practitioner. Could not have done it without your help! Will recommend your websites to everyone I know who is planning on taking the IELTS. Have a wonderful weekend ahead!

    Hi Liz,
Thank you so much for your guidance.
I have given ielts academic twice, my scores
    1st L-8. 5, R-8, W-7, S-6.5, O-7.5
    2nd L-8, R-7.5, W-6.5, S-8, O-7.5
I need 7 in all, really confused, my writing part was not that bad, do you think remarking will help, shall I apply for EoR. I am a pediatrician from India. Please reply

    • It’s possible to consider a remark as long as you wrote over the word count, and wrote an overview in task 1 and a conclusion in task 2. However, it’s never guaranteed to work. If it doesn’t work, review your writing techniques before taking another test. Good luck!

  92. Hello Liz,
Thanks for your wonderful website with loads of tips and videos.

I’m an MBA graduate from India, planning to migrate to another country. I had attempted IELTS general 4 times in the past 8 months. Below are my scores:
    Attempt 1: L 8.5, R 7.5, W 6.5, S 7.5
    Attempt 2: L 9, R 9, W 6.5, S 7.5
    Attempt 3: L 8.5, R 9, W 6.5, S 7
and finally my big and successful attempt,
    Attempt 4: L 8.5, R 8.5, W 7, S 7.5

I was not sure what was going wrong with my Writing every time, but always I felt I had room for improvement. I realized, I was attempting the exams without improving my writing skills, hence for the fourth attempt, I took a couple of months and practiced Writing tasks daily.

I purchased your videos, and they helped me immensely in my preparation. Moreover, the tips which come along with the video subscription were really helpful.

    Thanks a lot!!

  94. Hi Liz,

Thanks for all the lessons and videos. They helped me a lot during the preperation.
Got my IELTS result last week and these are the scores:
    Listening: 9
    Reading : 9
    Writing : 7.5
    Speaking : 6.5
    Overall : 8.0

I am quite happy with my performance in L/R/W but my speaking score is bit low.
I am rewriting the exam to improve my speaking score (more confident this time)

Once again, your website was very useful

    Thanks

  96. Hi Liz,

I sat for IELTS General Training Exam in Saudi Arabia recently. I scored
    L:8
    R:5.5
    W:6.5
    S:8

I am deeply disappointed with my reading score since I worked hard in this module and always score 7+ in sample tests. I belive the evaluation of my reading exam is an aberration based on the strenghth of other faculties.

What are the chances of success if I challenge my reading exam.

    Regards,
    Nyl

    • It is unlikely the reading score will change. The scores are based on right or wrong answers – not on human interpretation. So, the chances of mistakes are very low. However, the choice is yours.

  97. Natacha Ruyssers says:

    Hi,
I am a Belgian surgeon planning a fellowship training in Australia for which I need to pass the IELTS.
My first attempt to sit the IELTS was in December 2017 and these were my scores:
    Listening: 9/9
    Reading: 8.5/9
    Speaking: 8/9
    Writing 6.5/9
    Overall score : 8/9
As you can see, I only had a low band score for writing. However, it kept me from being accepted by the Australian Medical Council (they require a minimum of 7 on all 4 topics) and I need to re-sit the entire exam.
At the moment, I am studying hard to improve my writing skills by watching the advanced videos on writing from Liz and by training.
Hopefully this wil result in a better band score in February!

For all students planning to sit the IELTS and have a degree: don’t focus too much on listening and reading because most of the time, you are already familiar with these topics. Spend most of your time on writing (definitely the hardest part of the exam) and speaking!

    Best regards,
    Natacha

    • I’m glad you finally hit your desired score – great job! It’s not easy to hit that band 7 in writing. Well done πŸ™‚

  99. I sat the Ielts test on January 13th. I achieved an 8 band overall. The resy of the scores are:
S: 7.5 R:8.5 L:8.5 W:6.5 . Although my band score is quite good, I need to take this test again, as I need a minimum of 7. By the way I’m a physician.

    • Well done with your results πŸ™‚ Make sure you review all your techniques for IELTS writing. As you had band 7.5 in speaking, your English is not a problem. However, the way you present ideas, the way you link them and the language choices you make can all affect your score significantly. S – 7.5
    L – 7.5

Quite happy with the scores but a bit disheartened to have scored lesser in writing yet again. Thank you for for the guidance! Let me know what you think about re-evaluation.

    • Well done with your results πŸ™‚ If your results are enough for your future goal, then be satisfied. There is no guarantee with remarking. Writing is particularly difficult for students to assess themselves because most students do not fully understand how the examiner marks their writing and what the actual band score requirements are. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try for a remark. It’s completely up to you. Whatever you decide – I wish you all the best πŸ™‚

  108. Hi Liz
Hope you are doing well.Whatever I have achieved in this test,I owe it to God and a teacher like you.I attempted ielts thrice but always missed magic number 7778, finally got it.And I really want to give one message to all individuals who are looking for their desired bands that have some perseverance.Dedication and hardwork pays off.Sometimes things are not easy as they seems to be,but don’t loose hope , especially, when Liz is there 😊.
    First attempt
    L-8.5
    R-7.5
    W-7
    S-6.5
    Second attempt
    L-8.5

    S-6.5
I missed perfect 7 in speaking twice
    Third attempt
    L-8
    R-7
    W-7
    S-7
Finally the magic number is with me and I cannot express my happiness. The thing that I like the most in these three exams is that I managed to get 7 or 7.5 in writing ,while majority of people fall behind in it and believe me this is just because of you.Your tips and advanced lessons are blessing.I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to you.
May God bless you with good health.

Thank you liz for the lessons you provided. it helped me a lot that even though it was my first time to sit for the exam, i was able to achieve the scores i needed. For everyone who will take the exam, just relax and keep it simple and concise. You dont have to use difficult words especially if you are unsure on how to properly use them. It’s better to use simple words and express your ideas clearly than to use “flowery” words you’re not sure of which can make your score to suffer. Most importantly, dont forget to pray. Do your best and God will do the rest. πŸ™‚

      • Hi Liz can you please let me know whether our speaking band is marked by examiner or it is being marked by British Council or IDP authorities after listening our recording? The reason I am raising this question is because my examiner was taking naps during my test and she even sometimes asked me same question twice, I’m worried about my marks.

        • Your speaking test score is decided by the IELTS examiner who asked the questions. The test has been recorded so that you can ask for a remark if you are not happy with your results.

          • Thanks a lot Liz.

            • Hi Liz I got my result today and its L 8.5
              R 9
              W 7
S 6.5 As I told you about my speaking exam experience my examiner was taking naps during my exam, so should I go for remarking
              Please suggest

              • It is possible to consider a remark. But remember that nothing is guaranteed. You need to think about your performance. Did the English you provided show flexibility, a good range as well as accuracy?

    • I got 6 in IELTS I spent on 11 days. Self-study.

I gave test on 16 December. L_7.5, R-9,w-7, s-8. Overall_8. I am happy with my score. It was my first attempt and I studied fr 7 days only though 7 hrs per day. My question is do I need to reattempt fr listening although I m happy with my score as I see a few comments saying 8 is required. My speaking questions-tell about a historical movie you watched. Do u like history. If given a chance would you like to study history. Then about inventions. What is greatest invention of mankind. What is the greatest invention at home. What are the disadvantages of invention. This is what I remember. Thank you

  127. My results were the exactly what I had expected walking out of the exam hall.
I had taken the UKVI IELTS academic on December 16 2017,with less than 2 weeks of preparation and a major panic attack on the day of the exam.I completely blanked out during my writing part due to lack of sleep.I couldn’t even feel my fingers moving.
    The result: L-9 R-9 S-8 W-6.5 O-8
The only advice I would say is to focus on mastering the IELTS exam taking skills and not waste time on a lot of resources.
I’m retaking the test in 2 weeks hoping to score the required band this time.

    • Band 8 is a great score, particularly considering how tired you were – well done πŸ™‚ You are 100% correct – students require lots of energy and concentration for the IELTS test πŸ™‚

    • Sorry I’m answering this a bit late. It’s certainly possible to consider a remark if you:
      1. wrote over the word count in task 1 and task 2
      2. wrote an overview for task 1 and a conclusion for task 2

  131. Hello Liz,

Thanks for your awesome material and guidance. My scores are as below:

    L-7.5
    W-7
    S-8
    R-9

I am planing to re-take the test to improve my Listening Scores as I need at least 8 in that. The primary challenges which I faced were my short attention span and not able to keep pace with the recording while reading options in “Multiple Choice questions” and “match the Questions with the list of answers”.
I would be interested in opting for your advance lessons, if they may help me with the above.

It goes without saying that your lessons were a great resource during the prep.

    Overall:8.5

    Thank you once again

  134. sat for academic on Dec 9th with L7.0, R7.0, S7.5, W7.5; overall7.5

  135. Hi Liz
    I scored 9 in R, 8.5 in L, 8 in S and 7 in W.
I would like to thank you for all your tips n tricks which helped me to get this score.

I need to score a min of 8 in each band (GT module). Could you suggest as to how can I improve my writing score

  136. Hello,

I got overall band 8 in Academic IELTS.
    R= 9
    L= 8.5
    S = 7.5

I had less than a week to prepare for the examination. Thank you for all the youtube videos and lessons. I could not have scored well in such short period. Thank you so much for your effort and lessons.

  138. Hi Elizabeth,
    Sadly my score is: L-9 R-8.5 S-8 W-6.5 O-8

I apologise for being negative but I don’t know whether to believe in conspiracy theory or not. My writing score is horrible and I am sure that I don’t deserve it. Being it the third time, I am stuck with one or other. While I got 7.5 and 8 before, this time, I actually performed better. But well, something in my mind says, IELTS does want me to go ahead and get the required score till I lose all my chances.

Nonetheless, you and your website have always been my favourite place of practice alone. I can’t thank you more!

    Best,
    Kumar

  139. Hi Liz,

Hope you are doing well. I had taken the IELTS GT exam on 16 December, 2017 in Mumbai and am glad to let you know that I have got the band scores I needed in each section..yay πŸ˜€

    Listening: 8.5, Reading: 8, Writing: 7.5, Speaking: 7, Overall: 8

I am a little disappointed with my speaking score as I was expecting atleast a 7.5. I would like to take this opportunity and thank you for the helpful videos, tips and practice questions…specially the ones on True/False/Not Given.

You are doing a great job. Thank you and wish you a healthy and peaceful live πŸ˜€

Just to update you, my experience with IDP was great. Since I also made a prior attempt with British Council which was a chaos in test organisation and bit rude behaviour.
IDP study material has better quality content & at the test venue things are very peaceful and systematic.

Thanks a lot for making things easier to us.

  160. Hi Liz,

Just wanna highlight my gratitude, for the help I got from you and your website. Before I begin, I’d like to provide some background context. I’m from Malaysia (an ex-British colony and a member Common Wealth country) and although English can be considered my 1st language, we were really taught in Malay in our entire school system. Every subject is taught in Malay with the exception of English (and say Chinese or Tamil in the Chinese/Tamil schools), hence our use of English, though common, isn’t our first language.

I would’ve thought IELTS would be a breeze, for myself, but having sat for the General Training IELTS in 2012, and scored an overall banding of just 7.0, I know how difficult the Academic IELTS would be. I practiced a lot, but still lack the grasp on basic principles of 2 tasks, Reading and Writing. Then my spouse referred your link to me, and it really help put things into perspective about what each part is about. Your videos are VERY HELPFUL, even though I didn’t manage any 9.0’s, I’m very grateful for the guidance you gave. Especially difficult was the Academic Reading test, too many pages, too little time, and the results shows, BUT on the Writing test, you really help put things in perspective. When I practiced Writing test, short essay, I ended up with 300 words (for the 150 word task), as my attempt turned out to be an editorial with opinions and conclusions. After watching your coaching, it was much clearer what needs to be delivered, definitely not fancy language.

    Anyway, here’s my results:
    Overall Banding : 8.0
    Listening : 8.5
Reading : 6.5 (which was hell for me, it was very difficult to correctly complete in 1 hour)
    Writing : 8.0
Speaking: 8.0 (Generally Malaysians in Private sectors have no major problems with this)

While I’m dissatisfied with the 6.5 in Reading, despite your coaching, I’m happy with my Overall results. Again, much Gratitude owed to you Liz

  161. Credit is all yours…..!!!!😊

  164. Hello Liz,

I got my results today. Details below :

Thanks to you. All your materials were very useful.

  165. Hello, Liz! I’m Anna, from Romania and i just got my Ielts results:
    L – 8,5
    R – 8,5
    W – 7,5
    S – 7,5
    Overall score band 8
I took my exam on the Nov. 25th and it was my first attempt! I used most of your free advice and tutorials, some official Ielts preparation tests and tips and I’d like to thank you for your help as I found the videos and everything very useful. Wish you all the best!

  166. Hi Liz! I’m from the Philippines and my first attempt was last January 2017 but failed to get a 7 in both speaking and writing, and I didn’t bother to have it rechecked since my teacher/friend told me my essay was tangential. I took the exam (academic) again in British Council last 5 October 2017 here in Riyadh KSA and received my results:
    Listening – 8.5
    Reading – 9
    Writing – 6.5
    Speaking – 6.5
    Total Band Score – 7.5
I was disappointed with my results as I’ve reviewed for several months with a private tutor and availed your advance classes and free materials. I know in my heart that I did my best and opted for an EOR although my teacher said that it’s unlikely that my grades would change, he, too, was devastated with the outcome. Seven excruciating weeks later I finally received my results yesterday:
    Listening – 8.5
    Reading – 9
    Writing – 7
    Speaking – 8
    Total Band Score – 8
I was in shock when I read my scores. My speaking score jumped by 1.5 band! Writing, too, went up by half a band (the most important part for us nurses). Glory to God! I hope my persistence, patience, and “stubbornness” will inspire others since I haven’t seen any success stories of EOR from the internet or from forums. They’ll also return my money! Thank you Liz for your website and for offering discounts for your advance classes. Your teaching style is straight to the point and was highly recommended by my tutor. You’re heaven sent! Continue to be a blessing to everyone, God bless! :*

  167. Hi Liz,

  169. Yohan Ellappuli says:

    Hi Liz,

    I got my IELTS results.

    Speaking: 8.5
    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 7.5

This was my second time attempting IELTS since I got a 6.5 for writing last time. I mainly used your online lessons to practice and it helped me a lot. Thank you!

I am happy with my results, however I am wondering if I should apply for a re-mark to see if I could get a 8.0 for writing. While I was confident with my Task 2 answer I ran out of time to check my Task 1 answer therefore, I believe there should have been some mistakes. Please advice!

    Thanks,
    Yohan.

  170. Dear Liz, thank you for your wonderful website, great tips and videos

I am from Malaysia and took my IELTS Academic Module on the 11/11/2017 in Manchester

    L – 8
    R – 7.5
    W – 7
    S – 7
    Overall 7.5

My first attempt was in August 2017 (Manchester) – unfortunately I only managed to score an overall of 6 band score in spite of 4 weeks of preparation.
For the 2nd attempt i had less than 3 weeks to study – I kept practicing using previous and new mock questions, watching your YouTube videos and at the same time Try to Identify my weaknesses.
After the exam ended this time I was worried and concerned that I will not achieved the desired band score as I find that the question was harder compared to the last exam and there were moments that I lost my concentration especially during the listening and reading session as I did not slept well the night before
    Things that I learned:
    Keep practicing
Identify your weak areas – try to improve it
    Manage your time wisely
    Get enough sleep
    Try and try again

  171. Hi Liz, I’d my ielts GT test on 11 Nov and I got an overall 8 (L8, R9, W7, S8). Thank you so much for all the resources you’ve put together on the website. I’ve also purchased your advanced lessons on writing. They helped me a lot. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your posts and videos, they really helped me to improve my performance. I struggled with T/F/NG questions in Reading and nailed them after watching one of your videos.
Thank you again and best of luck!

  175. Vikesh Sukheja says:

I received my test scores today for Ielts. I got an overall of 8 bandscore (L-8.5 R-8 W-7 S-8). I am really pleased with my results since I only had a week’s time to prepare.

I would really like to thank you LIZ, I prepared using this site and Cambridge book. This site is of great help. Despite giving Ielts for the first time, I felt as if I knew everything, again thanks to you.

I struggled a bit with writing and on the other hand listening, reading and speaking went well which is well reflected with the scores.

I gave exam through IDP and they were very very supportive during whole exam process.

Thanks and all the best to you personally. You are doing great job.
    Cheers!

  176. Hello everyone,

I just got my results for my IELTS Academic that I attempted on 28th October 2017. I scored an overall score of 8.5. (Listening – 9, Reading – 9, Writing – 7.5 and Speaking 8).

Most of my thanks goes to LIZ for her Youtube videos for my speaking and writing tests. I wish I had gone through her videos earlier and also taken time to practice more. Although I did not complete my writing test I managed to score 7.5. I would not have scored this high without her tips and advice. I followed her tips for the speaking test and scored an 8 without much practice.

    So thank you very much!

  177. Hi Liz,
    Listening 8.5
    Reading 7
    Writing: 7.5
    Speaking 8
Thanks soo much for your lessons. I purchased your writing lessons and I must say they were very helpful indeed. My overall score band score was 8.0
I had a little difficulty with my reading with respect to time management. Spent too much time on the first reading it affected the others as I had to rush through the remaining. And of course in a state of panick even if the questions are easy, it becomes difficult to concentrate and answer correctly. I hope all will take the issue of time management very seriously. All the same, i got a great deal of information, tips and confidence from your website. Thank you.

  178. Alright.. Here is my story of IELTS!

    First attempt scores:

    Listening: 8
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 6.5
    Speaking: 7

I must say that I was devastated to see my score in Writing because I was more than sure that I will excel in both Writing and Speaking. Being a blogger myself, instead of spending time on Writing and Speaking, I did practice lot of Listening and Reading. And you can see that I managed to do well on those areas.

What one needs to know about IELTS Writing is that IELTS does not care how ‘interesting’ly you are able to write. Perhaps, you should focus on adapting your style to what is called as ‘IELTS Writing’. Learn how to do well on the 4 parameters that IELTS expects you to be good at.

After my first attempt, I did buy Liz’s Advanced Lessons and it is not a secret anymore that that they are super good. πŸ™‚

    Below are my scores:

    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 9
    Writing: 7
    Speaking: 8

Good luck to all of you!

  179. Hi Liz,
got my results a few days ago:
    L: 7.5
    R: 8
    W: 7
    S: 8.5
    Overall 8

I am very happy with the results, as reading went terribly wrong and I almost left during the exam 😁 I struggled with text 2 and 3 and totally panicked, so when the time was almost up I made a wild guess in the last 10 minutes to write down the remaining 20 answers, as I hoped I would hopefully get at least a few points extra. As you can imagine I was more than surprised to see 8 for reading.
Now I am wondering if there was a mistake during the correction process that lead to this unexpected result.
Do you think this is likely? I don’t know how the correction process is structured, just wondering A LOT.

  180. Hi Liz, checked my result online. Did the test on the 2nd of November, and here are the scores below;
    Speaking: 7:5
    Writing; 7:5
    Listening; 9
    Reading; 8.5
    Overall; 8
All thanks to you Liz!!! You’re a great teacher. With my result I’m good to go. Thank you!

  181. Hi Liz,
Thanks a bunch for the wonderful guidance and study material. Earlier i didn’t know that we can share our score over here so I didn’t know how to thank you. Fortunately I found this link today. I took the test on 29th of July and I got the required bands thanks to you. My requirement was 7 in each module except for listening in which I needed 8.
    My score is: L-9.0, R-9.0, writing-7.0 and Speaking-7.5. Overall-8.0
    Thanks again.
    Keep up the good work.

    Listening 9
    Reading 8.5

    God bless you! πŸ™‚

  183. Hi Liz…

I appeared for my IELTS for the first time on October 28 and i scored an overall 8. Thank you Liz for the excellent tips, materials including sample questions for each section. They were all very helpful.

    My scores are :
    Listening – 7.5
    Reading – 8.5
    Speaking – 8
    Writing – 7.5

    Overall – 8

I didn’t devote much time for Listening probably because i gave two practice tests when started preparing for it and got about 39 out of 40 correct. I messed up the listening during the exam where in i missed out a couple of questions and got tensed, somehow i regained some composure to get back on track. I must say it’s easier to say ” stay calm and focus on the next question” but in the moment you actually mess up.

However, the other sections i did prepare better. I think
I could have fared much better in listening had i not neglected it.

I did achieve my target of getting over 7 in each section and i happy about it.

Liz i must say, all of your videos are quite precise and to the point. They really help a lot.
I thank you for all the material.

For all the test seeker, I wish all the luck in the world. Prepare well, no shortcuts really.

    Cheers,
    Sunit

  184. I took IELTS on the 14th of October 2017, my scores were L:8, R:9, W:7.5, S:8. Thank you Liz for all the tips on your blog. I may have to write again (after a lot of practice) because I need a band score of 8 in Writing. But your site is amazing and I have recommended it to other test takers.

  187. Hi Liz,

Your site helped me a lot in IELTS prep. I had just 10 day for the preparation and I read all of your articles which bolstered my confidence. I got my results yesterday :
    Overall : 8.5
    Listening: 9
    Reading : 9
    Speaking : 8
    Writing: 7.5

I was a little disappointed with my speaking score as I was expecting a perfect score. Nevertheless, I am happy with my results. Thanks a lot for the youtube videos and the site.

    Tips:

I studied from Cambridge IELTS prep book and road to IELTS
    Liz videos and site
Also watched official IELTS test videos on youtube
Improved vocabulary from GRE prep app.

  188. Hi Liz..
Thank you so much for your lessons. I had one month time to prepare for my IELTS exam and I am glad that I came across your website. It proved wonderful for me. I received my results today. Overall band – 8
    Listening – 8
    Reading- 8
    Writing- 7.5
    Speaking -9

Thank you again. You are a wonderful teacher. :).

  189. Hi All,

    Listening: 7
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 8

  190. Hi Liz,

I’d like to thank you for sharing such a wonderful tips and videos through social media. It is evident that everyone(including me) appreciates it. My weakness was the Writing section, but I must say your advance course did pay off. I had about 10 days of prep time which did not include practicing writing. However, I did go through model answers and the videos quite a few times.

I sat for my exam on October 28th, 2017. Below is my score breakdown:
    Overall: 8
    L:8.5, R:6.5, W:8.0, S:8.5

I am really disappointed with reading score. I wasn’t expecting such a bad performance, rather was expecting that score range for writing(since I took 35 mins for task 1 and the rest for task 2). Would you recommend applying for a recheck?

    Have a wonderful day!
    Ash

  191. Hi, Liz!
I’m from SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil. I took IELTS Academic on October 28th.
When I first took a peek at the test I was really shocked by how time plays an important factor in it. I had about 10 days to prepare for the exam, and dedicated most of my time to the writing tasks. I managed to get an Overall Band of 8.5 (speaking 8.5 / writing 8 / listening 8 / reading 8.5).
I just cannot stress how important all your tips were for my overall preparation. I relied 100% on them. Thank you very much.

  192. Bhavesh Dhanesha says:

    Hi Liz,

Thanks a lot for all the knowledge you share. My overall score is 8.5:
    L: 8.5
    R: 9.0
    S: 9.0
    W: 7.5

I had around a month to prepare for IELTS. But due to my hectic work schedule could not devote time to it. But your videos and tips helped me to score the marks above. Your recommendation of paraphrasing and vocabulary helped a lot.

    Thank you πŸ™‚

  194. Hello Liz,

I want to tank you for your videos and this blog. I’ve received my academic IELTS results today.
    Overall – 8.0
    R – 9.0
    L – 8.5
    W- 7.0
    S – 7.0
Although I still need 7.5 from writing and speaking with your help I’ve improved my writing in 3 months from 6.5 to 7.0. Once again, than you for being such a great and helpful tutor.

In writing pert one I had to describe a table and two bar charts about number of doctors in Australia, they were divided by gender and place of birth.
The second part of a writing task was a discussion essay about whether parents should teach their children to recycle or it’s a responsibility of school administration.

During the speaking I was asked to tell about a happily married couple, other questions were about wedding ceremony and family traditions in my country.

  195. L – 9
    R – 9
    W – 7
    S – 9

    Overall 8.5.

I knew I would score low in writing, 2 main mistakes – 1) wrote a paragraph after conclusion, since I was not sure if I had hit the 250 mark. 2) did not provide specific examples.

Thank you, Liz! This website really helped. πŸ™‚

  198. Hi Liz,

I primarily used your write-ups and videos for the writing task 2. They were of great help. I was able to improve my score from 6.5 to 7.5. A BIG thank you for that.

However, I was disappointed that my speaking score dropped from 8 to 7. Probably I should have seen your videos on this topic also:) . In any case, I achieved the desired scores, so I am content.
    My score is: L-9, R-8.5, W-7.5, S-7 Overall-8

Thank you very much for your support. You are doing a wonderful job.

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful website and all the amazing videos you have uploaded. All I had was just 2 weeks of preparation time , so I had to juggle the learning with my work and household chores . A family friend recommended your website and I took an instant liking to your online teaching classes the very first time I saw them. I would spend at-least an hour or two listening to your splendid videos,on a daily basis for a fortnight. Writing was the section I was afraid of the most ,but all of the tips which you mentioned helped to stand me in good stead. It’s an absolute delight to watch your videos since you’re just oozing with so much of positive energy and warmth. Your smile certainly helps to dispel all the apprehensions a prospective IELTS candidate would have.If I come across any co-worker or friend preparing for IELTS I’d recommend your website assuring them that the only preparation they need is to just religiously follow whatever you teach.Once again thanks a lot and God Bless you.

    Thanks & Kind Regards

Thanks for the valuable impact, I did my first ielts exam in January this year, I had:

    Reading 6.5
    Writing 6.5
    Speaking 6.5
    Listening 5.5
    Overall 6.5

Then I stumbled on your site courtesy of a friend. I went through all the advise and practice lesson, and I took the test again on 14th October. It came out great

    Listening 7.5
    Reading 9.0
    Writing 7.5
    Speaking 7.0
    Overall 8.0

The issue though is that my Country, Nigeria, is competitive. I need a minimum of 8 in Listening for cec. So I have decided to take it again.

I however must appreciate your valuable impact. Now I am more than confident to take it again

    Hello Liz,
I did the test in Lagos, Nigeria (General Version) on Oct. 14th for the first time. Online results today reads:
    Listening 9, Reading 9, Writing 8 and Speaking 7.5. Overall band: 8.5
I’m not so surprised about the speaking aspect. I found it a bit difficult given that most of my questions were about Art: contemporary art, modern art and a whole lot of Qs I had little or no ideas about.
I had exactly one week to study so I created a study plan. One day for each module, put in at least 10 study hours each day and I spent it on your blog – the videos, tips on answering questions (especially T,F,NG questions, thanks for those!), finished all practice tasks on your website and numerous Cambridge practice tests. For Reading, I practiced with the Academic test samples rather than the General’s since they are a bit more difficult. For Writing, I equally found ieltsonline.com helpful. They upload lots of writing tasks from previous IELTS exams for test takers.
Two things helped: your blog and practice. A lot of practice. Thank you so very much for the resources and materials you provide. God bless you real good.

I am happy with my result as I had only two weeks to prepare.
You have an extensive list of essay topics as well as speaking topics. I didn’t have much time to write many essays, but I practiced by gathering ideas for all the essay topics. I believe it really helped me. Also, I read many band 8 and 9 essays.
One more thing for which I would like to thank you is for the video in which you said it is alright to use short forms ( T, F and NG) in place of full word in Reading section . Actually, while practicing at home I used to write only letters, and during exam without realising it I used short forms. After my exam I was quite worried about using(TFNG). I searched online to check whether it is alright to use short forms or not, and the first site that I opened was yours and you gave a positive reply in your video. I was so relieved. I wrote to Idp as well and they replied that although they don’t recommend it, but examiners may consider it.
I am happy that I got band 9 in Reading.
Thank you once again for providing such a useful website

  215. Dear Liz,

I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to your website. It has greatly helped me in achieving the required score. I am very grateful for your responses to my queries and I find that among all other websites that tell me to follow a specific format or use specific words, you were the one who supported that our opinions are all alright and that we can use multiple structures to get the score that we need.

    My Overall band score is 8. Speaking= 8.5, Reading= 8.5, Listening=8.5 and Writing= 7.

To be honest, I was very worried about my writing since I had no one to assess my work. When I checked my work I just patterned it from your samples.

Moreover, I cannot stress how much emotional preparedness can really affect your score. It’s something that I have underestimated and have not prepared for; that’s why I thought I wouldn’t even get a 6.5 in writing.

Here’s what happened to me. I found the reading and writing portions quite easy because I had finished about 5 Cambridge books and I have an overall grasp of what my band score would be for these before taking the exam. For speaking, I have had my fair share of public speaking so I wasn’t so nervous at all too. However, for the writing part, I knew that this was the most difficult task to accomplish but I didn’t know how stressful it is to actually write given the environment and situation of an examination room.

Indeed, time can be your friend or your worst enemy. On top of the time pressure, you have to deal with other stressors and distractions as well during the exam. Let me name a few.

    1. You will be in a room of people who are fighting for their dreams and who are nervous as hell. You may start off confident, but the gravity of the situation will sink in as you witness the other test-takers send signals of their fears and plight. Humans are social beings and are very receptive of others feelings. I swear this happened to me. I began to become nervous as soon as I saw the other test-takers worry.

    2. You will be surprised at how time moves so fast. It was greatly my fault because I forgot to bring my glasses and I could not see the clock from a great distance without squinting my eyes (I was seated at the back row). I purely relied on the announcement of the time during the exam. Oh boy, It wasn’t much of a help because every time they announced the number of remaining minutes, I panicked!

    3. You will make stupid decisions and there will be no time to fix them. This is why careful planning is crucial. I personally found task 1 more difficult than task 2. I made the wrong decision to start with the difficult part first and since I was not aware of the time, I spent 30 whole minutes on task 1. When the proctor announced that only 30 minutes was remaining , I instantly started task 2 with a clear opinion in my mind but no pre-writing notes or structure prepared. It was a disaster.

    My tips:
    1. When Liz says to practice in examination conditions, please do. Practice with someone else giving out the time left and imagine that it is the actual exam. Maybe a review center will give you such an environment, but if you study on your own, imagine all the possible stressors you might encounter during the exam.

    2. Use the Cambridge books and read them twice. I find that reading the Reading Section of these review books was quite helpful in building my academic vocabulary. Of course the first time I read it was during practice exams by which I couldn’t really appreciate the text because I was too busy looking for answers. I decided to read it the second time, and analyzed the structure and ideas of the texts. This was my favorite part of reviewing for the IELTS because I particularly enjoy learning new things. Furthermore, I learned a great deal of collocations and sentence patterns that I was able to incorporate into my writing.

Anyway, I’m sorry for the long post. I am very thankful for your help Liz and I am recommending your website to everyone who wish to practice and review for the test!

    Hi Liz,
First of all, thanks a lot for making all this study material available for free, it really helped me in Speaking and Listening sections.
    My scores –
    Listening- 8.5
    Reading – 8.5
    Writing – 7.5
    Speaking – 8
    Overall band – 8
I am satisfied with my results, however if I had got 0.5 more in writing, my overall band would have been 8.5. Nevertheless..
    My tips –
    1. Make sure you attempt at least 4 practice test.
    2. Focus on Listening and Writing more during preparation, they are the most deceiving sections.
    3. For speaking, practice speaking about yourself, your hometown (speciality of your hometown). For opinionated speaking tasks, have a firm opinion about the question and make sure you speak continuously throughout.
    4. For writing, its ok if you write one less paragraph but make sure you proof read what you have written for last 5 minutes.
All the best, don’t forget to thank Liz and post your scores after the test πŸ™‚

  224. Hi Liz,

I’m a native English speaker and took the Academic version of the IELTS on the 30th Sept, after roughly two weeks preparation. What I will say is that I totally concur with what you previously had mentioned somewhere in your blog; it’s not how well you think you know English or speak it, it’s knowing what IELTS is testing and how the marks are allocated. I did a few practice tests which were fine, but thanks to your Writing vids, I think I averted a possible disaster in the writing section i.e. inclusion of overviews for Task 1 and making sure I had a conclusion for Task 2. I may have made a slight faux pas in not writing 250 words for the latter (could be mistaken) but overall, preparation and knowing the points being looked for, made all the difference.

With that being said, I got the following:
    Overall Band: 8.5
    Speaking: 9.0
    Listening: 8.5
    Reading: 8.5
    Writing: 8.0

    Thanks again!

  225. Helitha from Sri Lanka says:

    Hi Liz,
    I got my results today.
    L-8.5, R-9, S-7.5, W-7
I took the test 3,4 times just to get 7 in writing. I was getting 6.5 in all the previous attempts.
Thank you very much for your lessons, they were really helpful.
Hope you continue the good work πŸ™‚

  226. Overall 8.5. Got band 8 in writing. Thank you very much for your advanced writing lessons. They helped me a lot. It gave me an understanding of the basic outline. All I had to do was put in my ideas. It, in fact, saved me a lot of time thinking about format, so I could concentrate on my ideas and language.

  227. Desperado says:

    Hi Liz,

As you may recall I had some concerns over task 1 academic where there were two complex tables that I found difficult to describe in full. I made a complete mess out of task 1. I even booked an extra test in anticipation that I would not get the minimum grades required (7 across all aspects). I was worried that I would miss the boat for an excellent job opportunity in Australia with a very close deadline.

However the provisional results online gave some surprising results:

    Overal 8.0

    Listening 9
    Reading 8.0
    Speaking 8.5
    Writing 7

Looks like I just scraped by with writing. Regardless, I got what I needed. As I had paid the money for the repeat test I thought I might as well go ahead and do it again, just for the bragging rights in case I do better.

Thanks a million for your help. The Task 2 videos were extremely helpful. I think a strong task 2 got me out of trouble and neutralized the mess I had with task 1. If there are any interesting tables/ graphs/ charts for task 1 on my resit I will try to reconstruct them and let you know for the benefit of all other test takers. I may have more time to memorize details this time as I will be doing the test with no pressure.

    Kind regards

  228. Hi Liz,

I took the test on 30th Sep and results came today. My scores are
    R – 8
    W – 7
    S – 8
    L – 8.5
    Overall – 8

I’m quite satisfied with my results although I was expecting lesser marks in writing. Your website has been of great help towards me achieving these results.
I practically did not practice my writing at all, and I got caught up by time during the test. I would strongly advise anyone to practice planning & writing well.
I’m thinking of retaking the test as I want to score at least an 8 in each. I’ll need to look for someone to mark my writings.

Anyone knows a well known & reliable person to do that?

  229. Listening – 8.5
    Reading – 8.5
    Writing – 7
    Speaking – 7
    Overall – 8.0

I am sure I did better in speaking but it really doesn’t matter because I am extremely happy with my result!! Thank you so much Liz for all your youtube videos & tips. My husband also chose to dedicate most of his prep time by going through your material.

  230. Hi Liz,
I am an Indian guy residing in US for past few years. I took my IELTS GT 2 weeks back for Canadian immigration reasons. I spent a little over a month self-preparing for the test and your website/YouTube videos have been helpful. I thank you for that.
    My score :
    Overall
    8.5
    Listening
    8.5
    Reading
    9.0
    Writing
    9.0
    Speaking
    7.5
Though I am disappointed with my speaking score, it’s something I was expecting. I have a valuable tip to share with test takers regarding speaking. Rest really well before the exam! It will make a difference to your score. I couldn’t sleep well the previous night and since my speaking test was scheduled much later on the test day , I was already sluggish during the test.. My spoken English was not fluent and couldn’t focus well on my thoughts. I wish I had taken the speaking test on a different day focusing entirely on that section . So if your center allows that, go for that option.
For reading and writing, I would suggest your website and Cambridge practice tests which can be downloaded online. Your website gave some tips for writing which were very useful.
Finally, do you think it’s a good idea to ask for a
re-evaluation to see if I improve score in speaking? Could it lead to my other sections’ score getting lower? Please advise on this.

A big thank you for helping me through your tips!

    Hi Liz,

Thanks to your website, I got the scores that I wanted on my third try:

    Listening – 9
    Speaking – 8.5
    Reading – 8.5
    Writing – 7

    Overall – 8.5

  232. Hi Liz,

First of all let me thank you a lot for this amazing blog. I have immensely benefited from it though I wish I had come across this earlier. Even then, I was able to learn a lot from your blog. God Bless You!

I gave my Speaking on 29th Sept and the others on 30th Sept . I got my scores today which are decent though I am a bit disappointed as I was gunning for 8.5. My scores are –
    Listening – 9
    Reading – 8.5
    Writing – 7.5
    Speaking – 7.5
    Overall band – 8

Speaking topic was a plant which has already been listed in your blog and thanks to that, I was able to prepare a little in advance.

Writing topic 1 was – write a little to your friend informing him that you would quit your job and returning to your home town. Include –

    1. The reason to resign for the job
    2. What you intend to do once you are back to your home town
    3. A date and time for meeting your friend
Did not seem that difficult though in an attempt to make my handwriting legible, I started slow and overshot the 20 minutes time limit by around 5 minutes or so

    Writing topic 2 was –

Many schools are replacing sports and exercise lessons with academic lessons. What is your opinion on this ? How do you think this impacts the children.

Again here too I started slow which left me no time to check the essay for spelling mistakes. Also, I came across the tips on the connectors in your blog on the night before my test and couldn’t really practice all those tips because of which I could not do that well in writing.

A tip to all IELTS applicants – reserve 5 mins towards the end of each writing session to ensure you check the essay for any spelling mistakes and improvisations. During your practice sessions, plan accordingly

Reading was not that difficult and I seems to have 1 wrong answer from the score I got. Listening too was not that difficult, thanks to the tips on your blog.

All in all, a satisfactory score I guess. Again, thank you Liz

  233. Listening 8.5
    Reading 9.0
    Writing 8.0
    Speaking 9.0

  234. Hi Liz. I took the Academic test out of whim, and did not prepare as I wanted to see how well I was. However, the day before the test I found your site, and took a few pointers, mainly from the writing section. Understanding what is expected of the written pieces was very helpful and I think this would be the easiest one to improve with study and practice, for example planning/writing times vs length of the piece, order, etc.

I’m happy to say that I got an 8.5 band.(Spk 8.5 Lst 8.5 Rd 9 Wrt 8.5). I see how getting an overall 9 is a challenging thing, but I believe that with conscious practice and the support of tutors (such as yourself) it is achievable.

A tip I would be able to give, is that the only test in which you can control your time is the reading one, so I used that one to go for a short bathroom break! Drinking a lot of water is good (when you are nervous, and to avoid being hungry) but not too good when you need to sit a test for several hours… The listening test is timed to the recordings, and the writing test is always veeeery tight on time. So the reading test was the only one in which I could afford to leave for a few minutes. Maybe that can help someone XD

    Hi Liz,

Your videos, blogs and articles were extremely helpful in my IELTS preparations.

I appeared for the exams on August 19th and scored 8.5 overall. I practiced quite a few sample tests for reading and listening. However, I had very less time to focus on writing practice and the results reflect the same. My breakup of score is given below.

    Reading: 9
    Listening: 9
    Speaking: 9
    Writing: 7.5

Thanks again for all the efforts you put into creating and maintaining this website.

    Juhi
