  3. Asma Sohail says

    Hi Liz,

I have a question to ask. I need to know in listening and reading module of the ielts test if we don’t use “a” , “an”, “the” in our answer will it be considered wrong. For instance if we write “safety net” instead of “a safety net” the answer will still be acceptable or not? Similarly if we write ” culture” instead of “cultures” how they consider this one? Waiting for you reply. Thanks alot!

  5. Hy liz..My name is Rahul ..I am from India..I want to enquire about getting good score in speaking section..Can we take the examiners question as friendly nd can we just speak what we have in our mind or we have to prepare for every possible questions which might ask??

    • The speaking test is informal and your aim is to chat. However, having planned your memories and ideas for topics will help you. For example, if the examiner asks you about your favourite plant, it helps that you have some ideas about this and also words to use. Also trying to remember your own personal experiences about topics will help – you don’t have time in the test to plan and think (except for 1 min in part 2) – all other questions must be spontaneous.

      • I want to ask another thing too..as we have the list of some cue cards with answers in internet so i am preparing for the some of the lines and maybe i ll say the exact words too to the examiner which has been written in the internet..so if there is any chance too that examiner has also read the answers from internet and he get to know that m just answering according to the internet which i cram from net…or it doesnt even matter until or unless m speaking correctly??

        • The examiner will know if your talk has been memorised. When talks are memorised, they do not count towards your score and this means the result will be a lower score. It is a waste of time trying to cheat IELTS.

  6. Chipmunk says

    Dear Liz,

Could you please explain in IELTS Writing Task 1 what the differences between “with’ and “at” are?
Sometimes it appears as a “with” or “at” at the end of a sentence.

    • This relates to the position of a preposition in a given sentence structure. This is about English grammar, not about IELTS. Please refer to an English grammar book.

  7. Alim John says

    Hello Liz!
I am Alim John from Uzbekistan. I want to ask for several things.
First, Is it possible to get 8 band by doing self-study? Do you know anyone who got 8 on their own?
Second, Is a learner’s ability to do well in listening limited? By this, I mean, a learner who always get 29-30 right answers in listening cannot improve his/her score, can he/she?
    Thanks very much in advance
    Best wishes!

    • 1. Yes it’s possible to get band 8 on your own. As long as you learn everything about the test and pick up all the skills needed. My website has over 300 pages – read them all.
      2. The listening test is based on vocabulary, paraphrasing, following order of information, spotting key words and concentration. Some students are good at it and some are not. IELTS is a language test. If your English is not strong, you won’t get a high score.

  8. Dear Liz, I am a Sri Lankan. I believe following your lessons will help me to achieve my targeted band score without any other training or help.
